The engineer's creativity is becoming more important as high value-added products are required. In this paper, a new curriculum model for creative engineering education has been developed. This study proposes the method of applying Chem-E-Car to the chemical engineering education for students to develop creativity. The Chem-E-Car is used as a given problem to students for developing safety study, teamwork, communication skill and creativity. The PBL(problem based Learning) is used in the class. The problem in this case is to make the Chem-E-Car, a shoebox sized car powered only by chemical reactions. Four types of Chem-E-Car such as turbine, rocket, voltaic cell and fuel cell are developed through out this program. The fuel cell powered Chem-E-Car is emphasized to students as new problems with constraints. This paper shows how the students solved the problems with creativity.
Tungsten trioxide thin films are successfully synthesized by a sol-gel method using tungsten hexachloride as precursors. The structural, chemical, and optical properties of the prepared films are characterized by scanning electron microscopy, X-ray diffraction, X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy, and UV-Vis spectrophotometry. The electrochemical and electrochromic properties of the films before and after heat treatment are also investigated by cyclic voltammetry, chronoamperometry, and in situ transmittance measurement system. Compared to as-prepared films, heat-treated tungsten trioxide thin films exhibit a higher electrochemical reversibility of 0.81 and superior coloration efficiency of $65.7cm^2/C$, which implies that heat treatment at an appropriate temperature is a crucial process in a sol-gel method for having a better electrochromic performance.

Atomic force microscopy (AFM) simulation for Si (001) surface defects was conducted by using density functional theory (DFT). Three major defects on the Si (001) surface are difficult to analyze due to external noises that are always present in the images obtained by AFM. Noise-free surface defects obtained by simulation can help identify the real surface defects on AFM images. The surface defects were first optimized by using a DFT code. The AFM tip was designed by using five carbon atoms and positioned on the surface to calculate the system's energy. Forces between tip and surface were calculated from the energy data and converted into an AFM image. The simulated AFM images are noise-free and, therefore, can help evaluate the real surface defects present on the measured AFM images.
We demonstrate the electrochromic properties of $TiO_2$ nanotubes prepared by an anodization process and investigate the effects of heat treatment and viologen incorporation on them. The morphology and crystal structure of anodized $TiO_2$ nanotubes are investigated by scanning electron microscopy and X-ray diffraction. As-formed $TiO_2$ nanotubes have straight tubular layers with an amorphous structure. As the annealing temperature increases, the anodized $TiO_2$ nanotubes are converted to the anatase and rutile phases with some cracks on the tube surface and irregular morphology. Electrochemical results reveal that amorphous $TiO_2$ nanotubes annealed at $150^{\circ}C$ have the largest oxidation/reduction current, which leads to the best electrochromic performance during the coloring/bleaching process. Viologen-anchored $TiO_2$ nanotubes show superior electrochromic properties compared to pristine $TiO_2$ nanotubes, which indicates that the incorporation of a viologen can be an effective way to enhance the electrochromic properties of $TiO_2$ nanotubes.
As information and communication technology has developed remarkably, it has become possible to analyze various types of large-volume data generated at a speed close to real time, and based on this, reliable value creation has become possible. Such big data analysis is becoming an important means of supporting decision-making based on scientific figures. The purpose of this study is to develop a big data analysis tool that can analyze large amounts of data generated through engineering education. The tasks of this study are as follows. First, a database is designed to store the information of entries in the National Creative Capstone Design Contest. Second, the pre-processing process is checked for analysis with big data analysis tools. Finally, analyze the data using the developed big data analysis tool. In this study, 1,784 works submitted to the National Creative Comprehensive Design Contest from 2014 to 2019 were analyzed. As a result of selecting the top 10 words through topic analysis, 'robot' ranked first from 2014 to 2019, and energy, drones, ultrasound, solar energy, and IoT appeared with high frequency. This result seems to reflect the current core topics and technology trends of the 4th Industrial Revolution. In addition, it seems that due to the nature of the Capstone Design Contest, students majoring in electrical/electronic, computer/information and communication engineering, mechanical engineering, and chemical/new materials engineering who can submit complete products for problem solving were selected. The significance of this study is that the results of this study can be used in the field of engineering education as basic data for the development of educational contents and teaching methods that reflect industry and technology trends. Furthermore, it is expected that the results of big data analysis related to engineering education can be used as a means of preparing preemptive countermeasures in establishing education policies that reflect social changes.

This study aims to apply Arduino and 3D printing technology considered as a key subject in the age of 4th industrial revolution which is a step 1 for customizing and applying the process of production by chemical molding companies producing environment-friendly biodegradable packaging materials to the 3D printing teaching in universities. Step 3 is applied to IoT for Arduino application, and 3D printing technology is also used on the basis of teaching creative integrated human resource. Integration of Arduino with 3D printers is based on the assumption that middle- and high-school students can learn it step by step to higher levels and university students majoring or not majoring in computing science can also have computing skills for solving 3D printing-based problems. For IoT application in this study, the 3D printing technology is applied to the external shape of products for producing an Arduino-based lighting fixture. The applied 3D printing technology is further extended to teaching modeling of producing packaging materials by chemical product molding companies in the age of 4th industrial revolution.
The purpose of this study was to investigate the creative characteristics of the scientifically gifted university students and the relationship between creativity and introductory engineering courses. Torrance Test of Creative Thinking(TTCT) verbal and figural forms were administered to the two groups of students, scientifically gifted students and general students. The TTCT results and their first year grade point average(GPA) were analysed by t-test method and Pearson's correlation analysis. The major findings are, (1) general students group got higher scores in some factors such as flexibility of verbal form TTCT, but significant differences between the two groups were generally not found, and (2) the factors such as the originality of figural form TTCT showed small positive correlation with GPA, but the other factors were barely related to GPA.
As the creative economy is considered important recently, learner-centered IP(Intellectual Property) education has proliferated rapidly to universities, and there are greater attention and demand on IP education. On the other hand, there are lack of curriculums and an accreditation for IP education. This paper is to propose IP education module and emphasize the need of the accreditation for IP education and its authentication plan. This paper will also show the need of specialists and educational curriculum in the field of IP, the current status and the analyse of the IP education, and the trend of IP courses in intellectual-property-leading universities. It subsequently examines the domestic education accreditation system and the National Competency Standard(NCS) curriculum and suggests the IP education 8 courses model as a curriculum management model, the standard curriculum of the IP educational system, and the instructional module.
The purpose of this study was to design a teaching and learning method conductive to the development of creative thinking skills and investigate its effects. It has been developed integrated mind map with feature of visualizing the divergent thinking to the aspects of Science (S), Technology (T) & Engineering (E), Arts (A), Mathematics (M). Integrated mind map can be divided into four types of STEAM type, STEA type, STEM type, STE type depending on the category of key words in the first branch. And Integrated mind map can be divided into three levels of guided, intermediate, open depending on the teacher's guide degree. And also integrated mind map activities were carried out in the form of group, class share as well as individual. This study was implemented during a semester and students in experiment group experienced individual-integrated mind map activity 10 times, group-integrated mind map activity 10 times, class share-integrated mind map activity 3 times. The results indicated that the experimental group presented statistically meaningful improvement in creative thinking skills (p<.05). And there was a statistically meaningful improvement in fluency, flexibility, originality as a sub-category of creative thinking skills(p <.05). Also creative thinking skills are not affected by the level of cognitive, academic performance, gender (p<.05). In conclusion, it was found that 'integrated mind map activity' improved student's creative thinking skills. There was no interaction effect about creative thinking skills between the teaching strategy and cognitive level, achivement, gender of those students.
Electrochromic (EC) device is an element whose transmittance is changed by electrical energy. Coloring and decoloring states can be easily controlled and thus used in buildings and automobiles for energy saving. There exist several types of EC devices; EC using electrolytes, polymer dispersed liquid crystal (PDLC), and suspended particle device (SPD) using polarized molecules. However, these devices involve solutions such as electrolytes and liquid crystals, limiting their applications in high temperature environments. In this study, we have studied all-solid-state EC device based on Tin(IV) oxide (SnO2). A coloring phase is achieved when electrons are accumulated in the ultraviolet (UV)-treated SnO2 layer, whereas a decoloring mode is obtained when electrons are empty there. The UV treatment of SnO2 layer brings in a number of localized states in the bandgap, which traps electrons near the conduction band. The SnO2-based EC device shows a transmittance of 70.7% in the decoloring mode and 41% in the coloring mode at a voltage of 2.5 V. We have achieved a transmittance change as large as 29.7% at the wavelength of 550 nm. It also exhibits fast and stable driving characteristics, which have been demonstrated by the cyclic experiments of coloration and decoloration. It has also showed the memory effects induced by the insulating layer of titanium dioxide (TiO2) and silicone (Si).
