Friedel-Crafts alkylation reaction of an isomeric mixture of 1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8- (2) and 1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8-octahydrophenanthrene (2') with excess vinylchlorosilanes such as vinyl(methyl)dichlorosilane (1a) and vinyltrichlorosilane (1b) in the presence of aluminum chloride catalyst at 80 $^{\circ}C$ gives only one dialkylated products, 9,10-bis[2-(chlorosilyl)ethyl]-1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8-octahydroanthrenes [(Cl2XSiCH2CH2)2C14H16: X = Me (4a), Cl (4b)] in good yields, but 9,10-bis[2-(chlorosilyl)ethyl]-1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8-octahydrophenanthrenes are not obtained. However, monoalkylation of 2 with 1 affords a mixture of both isomeric compounds, 9-[2-(chlorosilyl)ethyl]-1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8-octahydroanthracenes 3 and -phenanthrenes 3'. The yield of product 3' is always higher than that of 3. When a mixture of 3 and 3' is alkylated again with 1, only product 4 without phenanthrene type compounds is obtained, indicating that the isomerizations between 2 and 2', or 3 and 3'occur under the alkylation condition. The alkylation with dimethylvinylchlorosilane or trimethylvinylsilane did not proceed. The structure of 4a is determined by X-ray single crystal diffraction analysis.

This paper describes on development of integrated interface and applications to support stable digital data communication service for small and midium sized crafts exploiting SSB modems and HF wireless sets. Firstly, integrated interface module between GPS (Global Positioning System) and communication devices was developed. Secondly, maritime map was implemented into a display terminal to provide location tracking service and voyage planning function. In addition, condition monitoring service of crafts and fishing report functions as well as alarm functions were developed to support secure fishery. Results of performance measure on developed application services shows that error rate was less than 3% and communication delay was shorter than 1 second when a message length was less than 1 Kbyte along with one-to-many communication type.

This study has been focused on the evaluation of domestic softwood timbers to replace imported timbers for woodcrafts and furniture-making. Figures on radial and tangential sections were observed with naked eyes. As the result of study on the figures appeared on the wood surface of 6 species of trees, flat grain and edge grain were clearly found from Taxus cuspidata. Juniperus chinensis and Ginkgo biloba had wavy grain figure and pigment figure, and blister figure was found in Pinus densiflora, Larix kaempferi showed pitch streak and irregular figures on its tangential section due to growth abnormalities. Wavy grain figure appeared weakly on near knot of Pinus koraiensis. The characteristic figures shown from each species of trees are expected to be used for crafts, sculptures, furniture, and interior decoration. They are also considered to have great potential to substitute imported timber sufficiently, which are currently used a lot for wood crafts and furniture-making.

Based on the background of the times and theoretical background that influenced the formation of the works of Charles Rennie Mackintosh, one of representative architects of Art Nouveau, this study examined the formative characteristics of furniture design by period. In addition, his influences on the modern furniture design were also reviewed. In the latter half of the 19th century, due to Arts and Crafts Movement, the popularity of Art Nouveau was not high in England and due to conservative and traditional culture, Mackintosh had difficult time to display his ability in England. On the other hand, because Glasgow, one of industrial cities located in the center of Scotland where he had grown was an open and modern city, Mackintosh could win international fame in architecture and furniture design thanks to the atmosphere. Furthermore, it is found from the formative characteristics of his works that Historicism, Arts and Crafts Movement and Japanese culture and the influences of Continent became his theoretical background. His works creatively combined the noble design of Scotland and Art Nouveau to be considered a simple and pure style with a straight tendency and his working period can be divided into Beginning, Middle and Last Period according to the formative characteristics of furniture design. His constituting principle that decorated the structure influenced the Wien Secession's activities to form Wiener Werkstaette and this finally became the important background to develop to 'Modernism Design' through Art Deco and Bauhaus.

The enamel powders used traditionally in Korea are produced by a ball-milling process. Because of their irregular shapes, enamel powders exhibit poor flowability. Therefore, polygonal enamel powders are only used for handmade cloisonné crafts. In order to industrialize or automate the process of cloisonné crafts, it is essential to control the size and shape of the powder. In this study, the flowability of the enamel powders was improved using the spheroidization process, which employs the RF plasma treatment. In addition, a simple grid structure and logo were successfully produced using the additive manufacturing process (powder bed fusion), which utilizes spherical enamel powders. The additive manufacturing technology of spherical enamel powders is expected to be widely used in the field of cloisonné crafting in the future.
