The effects of scrap content on the impact and fatigue properties were investigated in AC4A alloy. The impact absorbed energy of as-cast specimens were 3.61, 3.56, 3.47, and 3.08 Joules, respectively, when scrap contents of the specimens were 0, 20, 35, and 50%. And, the corresponding energy levels of the T6 heat-treated condition were 3.66, 3.48, 3.25, and 2.96 Joule. In the same way, the fatigue strength values of the as-cast specimens were 53.2, 52.0, 48.4, and 43.8MPa, respectively, and the corresponding fatigue strengths of the T6 heat-treatment specimens were 85.4, 75.7, 60.6, and 51.2 MPa. Impact absorbed energy and fatigue strength decreased as scrap content of the specimen increased. It is assumed that impact absorbed energy decreased owing to the presence of oxide films, which act as branches of 2nd cracks; fatigue strength also decreased with decreased deflection of the fatigue crack path as the scrap content of the specimens increased.
Effect of Sn addition on the fatigue properties of Al-Cu-Mn cast alloy was investigated by low and high cycle fatigue tests. Fatigue life showed the maximum value of 5450cycles in the Al-Cu-Mn alloy containing 0.10%Sn, but decreased rapidly beyond 0.20% of Sn additions. It was found that the fatigue strength was 132MPa and fatigue ratio was 0.31 in the alloy containing 0.10%Sn. Metallographic observation revealed that the fatigue crack initiated at the surface and propagated along the grain boundary. This propagation path was attributed to the presence of PFZ along the grain boundary. The tensile strength increased from 330MPa in 7he Sn-free Al-Cu-Mn cast alloy to 429MPa in the alloy containing 0.10%Sn. But above 0.20%Sn additions, tensile strength was decreased by the segregation of Sn.
The amount of VC and C/N ratio in Ti(CN) was varied to investigate the effect of VC addition on the mi-crostructural change in Ti(CN)-Ni system. As the amount of VC addition increases in Ti(C0.7N0.3)-20Ni sys-tem a complete solid solution was observed in Ti(C0.7N0.3)-20Ni-25VC system. It implies that the ratio of the dissolution rates of Ti(C0.7N0.3)to that of VC is nearly 2:1 at the sintering conditions used in this study. It was found from the experiments that the system composed of the Ti(C0.7N0.3) phase exhibits a rimless structure and relatively small amount of solid solution. That is among Ti(C0.7N0.3) phase exhibits a rimless structure and relatively small amount of solid solution. This is among Ti(C1-xNx) phases the dissolution rate of Ti(C0.3N0.7) is the lowest. Also fracture toughness(KIC) of the cermet was measured by indentation method. Attentions were paid to crack propagation path to look for a dominant fracture mode and to cor-relate it with fracture toughness values. The fracture toughness was relatively high with the addition of VC content. But the addition of a large VC content reduced the overall toughness of the cermet. This result is explained with the difference in fracture mode.
The presence of defects in nature changes the physical parameters of the rock. In this paper, by studying the rock-like specimens with conjugated fractures, the horizontal angle and length are changed, and the physical parameters and failure modes of the specimens under uniaxial compression test are analyzed and compared with the results of simulation analysis. The experimental results show that the peak strength and failure mode of the rock-like specimens are closely related to the horizontal angle. When the horizontal angle is $45^{\circ}$, the maximum value is reached and the tensile failure mode is obtained. The fracture length affects the germination and propagation path of the cracks. It is of great significance to study the failure modes and mechanical properties of conjugated fracture rock-like specimens to guide the support of fractured rock on site.

In this study, alumina matrix composites reinforced with carbon nanotubes (CNTs) were fabricated by ultrasonic dispersion, ball milling, mixing, compaction, and sintering processes, and their relative density, electrical resistance, hardness, flexure strength, and fracture toughness were evaluated. 0~3 vol.% of CNTs were relatively homogeneously dispersed in the composites in spite of the existence of some pores. The three-point bending test results indicated that the flexure strength increased with increasing volume fraction of CNTs, and reached the maximum when the CNT fraction was 1.5 vol.%. The fracture toughness increased as the CNT fraction increased, and the fracture toughness of the composite containing 3 vol.% of CNTs was higher by 40% than that of the monolithic alumina. According to observation of the crack propagation path after the indentation fracture test, a new toughening mechanism of grain interface bridging-induced CNT bridging was suggested to explain the improvement of fracture toughness in the alumina matrix composites reinforced with CNTs.
There are two goals in this paper. The one is development of existing CA(Cellular Automata) model to explain more realistic deceleration process to stop. The other is the application of the updated CA model to forecasting simulation to predict short term link travel time that takes a key rule in finding the shortest path of route guidance system of ITS. Car following theory of CA models don't makes not response to leading vehicle's velocity but gap or distance between leading vehicles and following vehicles. So a following vehicle running at free flow speed must meet steeply sudden deceleration to avoid back collision within unrealistic braking distance. To tackle above unrealistic deceleration rule, “Slow-to-stop” rule is integrated into NaSch model. For application to interrupted traffic flow, this paper applies “Slow-to-stop” rule to both normal traffic light and random traffic light. And vehicle packet method is used to simulate a large-scale network on the desktop. Generally, time series data analysis methods such as neural network, ARIMA, and Kalman filtering are used for short term link travel time prediction that is crucial to find an optimal dynamic shortest path. But those methods have time-lag problems and are hard to capture traffic flow mechanism such as spill over and spill back etc. To address above problems. the CA model built in this study is used for forecasting simulation to predict short term link travel time in Kangnam district network And it's turned out that short term prediction simulation method generates novel results, taking a crack of time lag problems and considering interrupted traffic flow mechanism.

The characteristics of resilient modulus(Mr) which dominates the life of pavement and the design of pavement were investigated on the test specimens which were cement treated and non-treated of the three different soil types. The results are summarized as follows : 1. The resilient modulus was decreased by increasing the cyclic deviator stress ($\sigma$d) , especially the resilient modulus was gradually decreased or sometimes increased when the value of ad was greater than 0.75- 1. 0kg/cm$^2$. 2. The resilient modulus was increased by increasing the homogeneous confined stress ($\sigma$do) and such phenomena were distinct on the coarse soils. 3. The resilient modulus was increased by increasing the ratio of confined stress(Kc), and this phenomena were eminent on the coarse soils too, and the higher permanent strain was showed by increasing the value of Kc. 4. In the drained cyclic triaxial compression test, the value of ad, Kc, and (Oho) was introduced by the following interrelated equations which were similar to the Mr model of Cole. Kcn/Mr=K1(J$_2$/ $\tau$oct)K2 ............. (coarse soli) Mcn/Mr=K3($\sigma$dp/ $\tau$f)k4 ...............(fine soils) 5. The stress path was not much affected by the value of Mr, however, moisture content, dry desity, and contant of fines affected the value of Mr. 6. In the soil-cement specimens, the resilient compression strain($\varepsilon$d) was decreased by the increment of the $\sigma$ho, and Mr was decreased by increasing the $\sigma$d 7. In the flexible pavement. the cement treated layer should be designed not to fail by the fatigue before the designed traffic load, and actually the pavement could cover the traffic load to a certain extent under the post-crack phase, therefore farther studies on this phenomena' are required in the design analysis. 8. The finite element computer program (ANALYS) was used for displacement analysis of pavement containing the cement-treated layer, The result showed that the program used for this analysis was proved to be usable.
Effect of graphite powder addition on the mechanical properties of carbon fiber reinforced carbon composites (C/C composites) was investigated. Greenbody (G/B) with 0~30wt.% graphite powder addition to phenol resin was prepared and carbonized at $1000^{\circ}C$ to make C/C composites. Flexural strengths of 20wt.% graphite powder additions showed maximum values in the both case of G/B and C/C composites. But, at the graphite addition over 20wt.%, there was negative effect due to the matrix inhomogeneity. Flexural strength of cured resin without graphite Powder was higher than that with graphite. However, flexural strength of carbonized resin with graphite increased three times as much as that of carbonized resin without graphite. Because the addition of graphite powder effects the restraint of shrinkage after carbonization and the deflection of crack path. In Mode II ENF test, energy release rates($G_{II}$) of G/B and C/C composites with the 20w1.% addition of graphite were both increased. But, the addition of graphite was more effective to the increase of $G_{II}$ in C/C composites than that in G/B.

As fiber reinforced composite materials are widely used in aircraft, space structures and robot arms, the study on non-destructive testing methods has become an important research area for improving their reliability and safety. AE (acoustic emission) can evaluate the defects by detecting the emitting strain energy when elastic waves are generated by the initiation and growth of crack, plastic deformation, fiber breakage, matrix cleavage, or delamination. In the paper, AE signals generated under uniaxial tension were measured and analyzed using the $8{\times}8$ matrix piezo electric sensor. The electronic circuit to control the transmitting distance of AE signals was designed and constructed. The optical data storage system was also designed to store the AE signal of 64channels using LED (light emitting diode) elements. From the tests, it was shown that the source location and propagation path of AE signals in composite materials could be detected effectively by the $8{\times}8$ matrix piezo electric sensor.
The effect of weldbond hybrid joining process on the mechanical behavior of single lap and L-tensile joints was investigated for the newly developed 1.2GPa grade ultra high strength TRIP(transformation induced plasticity) steel. In the case of single lap shear behavior, the weldbond joint of 1.2GPa TRIP steel showed lower maximum tensile load and elongation than that of the adhesive bonding only. It was considered to be due to the reduction of real adhesion area, which was caused by the degradation of adhesive near the spot weld, and the brittle fracture behavior of the spot weld joint. In the case of L-tensile behavior, however, the maximum tensile load of the weldbond joint of 1.2GPa TRIP steel was dramatically increased and the fracture mode was change to the base metal fracture which is desirable for the spot weld joint. These synergic effect of the weldbond hybrid joining process in 1.2GPa TRIP steel was considered to be due to the stress dissipation around the spot weld joint by the presence of adhesive which resulted in the change of crack propagation path.
