Numerical simulation of fracture and damage behaviour of concrete at different ages

  • Based on the experiment results, the damage and fracture behavior of concrete at the ages of 1d, 2d, 7d and 28d, in three-point bending and uniaxial tensile tests, were simulated with a finite element program, ABAQUS. The critical stress intensity factor $K_{IC}^s$ and the critical crack tip opening displacement ($CTOD_C$) of concrete were calculated with effective-elastic crack approach for the three-point bending test of grade C30 concrete. Based on the crack band model, a bilinear strain-softening curve was derived to simulate the LOAD-CMOD curves and LOAD-Displacement curves. In numerical analysis of the uniaxial tension test of concrete of grade C40, the damage and fracture mechanics were combined. The smeared cracking model coupling with damaged variable was adopted to evaluate the onset and development of microcracking of uniaxial tensile specimen. The uniaxial tension test was simulated by invoking the damage plastic model which took both damage and plasticity as inner variables with user subroutines. All the numerical simulated results show good agreement with the experimental results.

개구부가 있는 강판콘크리트 벽체의 압축특성 분석 (Analysis of Compression Characteristics of the Steel Plate-Concrete Wall Structures with Openings)

  • 본 연구는 SC 벽체의 구조적 성능에 개구부가 주는 영향을 평가하는 목적으로 하였다. SC구조의 실험체는 개구부가 있는 실험체와 없는 실험체로 구분하였으며 개구부형상은 정사각형으로 개구부 주변의 보강과 비보강 그리고 슬리브두께를 변수로 계획하였다. 실험체의 공통된 파괴양상은 강판의 좌굴이 스터드와 스터드 사이에서 발생한 후 콘크리트의 균열이 진행되는 형태이며 개구부의 파괴형태는 수직 슬리브 벽이 개구부 안쪽으로 좌굴되는 파괴형태를 보여주었다. 또한 개구부의 슬리브 유무에 따라 강판좌굴 하중은 비슷하지만 최대압축강도는 슬리브가 있는 것이 크게 나타났다.

균열선단의 소성스트레치를 이용한 피로균열성장모델 (A model of fatigue crack growth based on plastic stretch at the crack tip)

  • 피로균열성장모델을 유도하고 지연모델을 제안하였다. 피로균열성장모델은 피로균열선단의 소성변형으로 인하여 균열표면에 발생하는 잔류소성스트레치를 고려하고 있다. 균열 성장률은 균열선단 재료요소의 소성변형에너지와 누적피로손상으로부터 계산된다. 유도한 균열성장모델로부터 계산한 균열성장률은 AL6061-T651과 17-4PH 주강의 시험결과와 잘 일치하고 있다. 피로균열성장지연모델은 인장과대하중으로부터 생성된 잔류소성스트레치를 근거로 하고 있으며, 인장과대하중은 다음 하중 사이클의 소성변형률을 감소시킨다. Strip-yield모델을 이용하여 균열선단의 소성역을 계산하였다. 새로 제안된 지연모델은 인장과대하중하의 피로균열선장특성 및 지체지연 현상을 잘 기술하고 있다.

복합적층판의 층간파괴에 미치는 충격하중속도의 효과 (Effects of Impact Loading Rate on the Delamination Behavior of Composite Laminates)

  • The delamination behavior of multidirectional carbon-fiber/epoxy composite laminates under 10NA intermediate and high rates of test, up to rate of about 11.4m s has been investigated using the double cantilever beam specimens. The mode I loading under rates above l.0m/s showed considerable dynamic effects on the load-time curves and thus higher values of the average crack velocity than that expected from a simple proportional relationship with the test rate. The modified beam analysis utilizing only the opening displacement and crack length exhibited an effective means for evaluating the dynamic fracture energy $G_{IC}$. Based on the assumption of constant flexural modulus, values of $G_{IC}$ at the crack initiation and arrest were decreased with an increase of the test rate up to 5.7m/s, but the maximum $G_{IC}$ was increased at 11.4m/s.

개구부 경사보강철근이 철근콘크리트 연속 깊은 보의 역학적 거동에 미치는 영향 (Influence of the Diagonal Reinforcement around opening on the Structural Behavior of Reinforced Concrete Continuous Deep Beams)

  • Objective of this study is to understand the diagonal reinforcement around openings on the control of diagonal crack, load distribution, and ultimate strength of reinforced concrete two-span continuous deep beams. Test results of four specimens showed that the strength lost by openings might be completed when diagonal reinforcement ratio was above 0.0014.

조기교통개방 콘크리트의 내구성능 향상에 관한 연구 (Enhanced Durability Performance of High Early Strength Concrete for Early Traffic Opening)

  • 콘크리트포장 보수공사에서 조기교통개방을 위해 현재 국내에서는 초속경시멘트를 사용하고 있으나 이는 초기의 빠른 수화반응과 내.외부적 구속으로 인한 온도수축 및 건조수축이 발생하여 콘크리트포장에 인장응력을 유발한다. 구속으로 인한 수축은 콘크리트내에 균열을 발생시켜 투수성을 증가시키고 장기적으로는 내구성을 약화시킨다. 콘크리트보강재료로서 섬유는 이러한 균열을 제어하는데 효과적이다. 본 연구에서는 국내에서 사용되고 있는 3종류의 초속경시멘트의 내구성을 평가하였고 내구성을 증진시키기 위하여 콘크리트 보강 섬유를 혼입하였으며 일반 콘크리트와 섬유보강 콘크리트를 비교.분석하였다. 실험결과 조기교통개방콘크리트에서 섬유의 혼입은 일반 콘크리트보다 내구성을 증진시키는데 우수한 효과를 나타내었다.

Fracture behavior modeling of a 3D crack emanated from bony inclusion in the cement PMMA of total hip replacement

  • In orthopedic surgery and in particular in total hip arthroplasty, the implant fixation is carried out using a surgical cement called polymethylmethacrylat (PMMA). This cement has to insure a good adhesion between implant and bone and a good load distribution to the bone. By its fragile nature, the cement can easily break when it is subjected to a high stress gradient by presenting a craze zone in the vicinity of inclusion. The focus of this study is to analyze the effect of inclusion in some zone of cement in which the loading condition can lead to the crack opening leading to their propagation and consequently the aseptic loosening of the THR. In this study, the fracture behavior of the bone cement including a strange body (bone remain) from which the onset of a crack is supposed. The effect of loading condition, the geometry, the presence of both crack and inclusion on the stress distribution and the fracture behavior of the cement. Results show that the highest stresses are located around the sharp tip of bony inclusion. Most critical cracks are located in the middle of the cement mantle when they are subjected to one leg standing state loading during walking.

후물재 용접부의 용착금속과 열영향부의 파괴 인성 비교 연구 (Fracture Toughness Comparison of Weld Metal and Heat-Affected Zone of Brittle Crack Arrest Steel Welding Joint)

  • Even welds that have passed non-destructive testing in the case of brittle crack arrest steel materials will actually have very fine weld defects. Based on studies showing that these defects adversely affect the structure if subjected to a certain period of load, the following conclusions were obtained by conducting CTOD tests on welding joints of high-strength BCA materials, structures comprising the upper decks of a large container vessel. First of all, the fatigue pre-cracking in the weld metal and heat affected areas was tested and the behavior was identified. Both parts of the welding joint are allowable range for the class regulations. In addition, CTOD results showed that the CTOD value in the heat affected area was more than 0.5 times higher than in the weld metal area.

Numerical simulation of wedge splitting test method for evaluating fracture behaviour of self compacting concrete

  • Predicting fracture properties requires an understanding of structural failure behaviour in relation to specimen type, dimension, and notch length. Facture properties are evaluated using various testing methods, wedge splitting test being one of them. The wedge splitting test was numerically modelled three dimensionally using the finite element method on self compacting concrete specimens with varied specimen and notch depths in the current work. The load - Crack mouth opening displacement curves and the angle of rotation with respect to notch opening till failure are used to assess the fracture properties. Furthermore, based on the simulation results, failure curve was built to forecast the fracture behaviour of self-compacting concrete. The fracture failure curve revealed that the failure was quasi-brittle in character, conforming to non-linear elastic properties for all specimen depth and notch depth combinations.

수소 장입 장치를 활용한 액체수소 저장시스템 강재의 CTOD 시험 분석 (Analysis of CTOD Tests on Steels for Liquefied Hydrogen Storage Systems Using Hydrogen Charging Apparatus)

  • Hydrogen infiltration into metals has been reported to induce alterations in their mechanical properties under load. In this study, we conducted CTOD (Crack Tip Opening Displacement) tests on steel specimens designed for use in liquid hydrogen storage systems. Electrochemical hydrogen charging was performed using both FCC series austenitic stainless steel and BCC series structural steel specimens, while CTOD testing was carried out using a 500kN-class material testing machine. Results indicate a notable divergence in behavior: SS400 test samples exhibited a higher susceptibility to failure compared to austenitic stainless steel counterparts, whereas SUS 316L test samples displayed minimal changes in displacement and maximum load due to hydrogen charging. However, SEM (Scanning Electron Microscopy) analysis results presented challenges in clearly explaining the mechanical degradation phenomenon in the tested materials. This study's resultant database holds significant promise for enhancing the safety design of liquid hydrogen storage systems, providing invaluable insights into the performance of various steel alloys under the influence of hydrogen embrittlement.
