  • Multitemporal interferometric SAR has became an useful geodetic tool for monitoring Earth's surface deformation, generation of precise DEM, and land cover classification even though there still exist certain constraints such as temporal and spatial decorrelation effects, atmospheric artifacts and inaccurate orbit information. The Korea where nearly all areas are heavily vegetated, JERS-1 SAR has advantages in monitoring surface deformations and environmental changes in that it uses 4-times longer wavelength than ERS-l/2 or RADARSAT SAR system. For generating differential SAR interferogram and differential coherence image fer deformation mapping and temporal change detection, respectively, topographic phase removal process is required utilizing a reference inteferogram or external DEM simulation. Because the SAR antenna baseline parameter for JERS-1 is less accurate than those of ERS-l/2, one can not estimate topographic phases from an external DEM and the residual phase appears in differential interferogram. In this paper, we examined topographic phase retrieval method utilizing an external DEM. The baseline refinement is carried out by minimizing the differences between the measured unwrapped phase and the reference points of the DEM.

  • Watermark detection has a crucial role in copyright protection and authentication for multimedia Because be the correlation -based algorithm which has widely been used in the watermark detection doesn't utilize the distributional characteristics of cover image to be marked, its performance is not optimum. So a new detection algorithm is proposed which is optimum for multiplicative watermark embedding. By relying on statistical decision method, the proposed method is derived according to the Bayes decision theory. Neyman Pearson criterion, and distribution of wavelet coefficients, thus Permitting to minimize the missed detection probability subject to a given false detection probability The superiority of the proposed method has been tested from a robustness perspective. The results confirm the superiority of the proposed technique over classical correlation -based method.

  • There are over 30[%] of electric fires in Korea happened at wire or wiring devices. For its prevention many safety devices are set up electric equipments. These safety devices are not working in a rated current's condition of electric equipment. But when wire is partially disconnected, electric fire is able to be happened even though current is smaller than a rated current value. This paper studied thermal characteristics and fire ability when wire in plug is partially disconnected. The experiment is progressed a method that inner wire of plug is partially disconnected and after that current that is less than a rated current is flowed. As the result, heating occurred in near of partially disconnected wire makes that outer sheath is melted, plug cover is carbonized, and even sometimes wire is fused. And results of analysis of thermal image of partially disconnected wire happened in plug, it shows a difference to heating distribution and temperature appeared surface of plug depend on a progress of a partially disconnected wire.

  • In Korea, due to the rapid increase in population due to industrialization, rivers were developed and managed with a focus on the completion and dimension of rivers. Due to the rapid increase in river use, there are so many river facilities indiscriminately that the administrative and management tasks are complicated and diversified in computerizing facilities and hydrologic data. Many methods have been proposed to solve this problem, but many problems exist. Among them, water has the same spectral characteristics, so it is difficult to subdivide into rivers, reservoirs, and dams. Therefore, this study subdivided the water system using supervised classification and GIS in order to efficiently manage the water resources by classifying the water system with the same spectral characteristics. In order to analyze the accuracy of the results, the accuracy of the objects classified using land cover map provided by environmental spatial information service was evaluated, and the result was an average of 91.75%, with 97.50% of rivers, 87.76% of reservoirs, and 90.00% of others.

  • This paper presents a capacity estimation of a storage system accumulating all data sensed during the lifetime of an individual human being. The calculation assumes modern data compression and data collection schemes based on wearable or implanted devices under ubiquitous environment. More than 76% of the storage area is found to be used for video data storage of common TV image quality. The remaining storage area is for data from other sensing organs including audio, taste, olfactory and tactual systems in addition to indexing information. Total storage area of around 600 tera bytes is needed to cover 100 years of human life including his fetal period.

  • This study discussed the applicability of satellite SAR (Synthetic Aperture Radar) imagery with regard to reservoir monitoring, and tried the extraction of reservoir storage from multi-temporal C-band RADARSAT-1 SAR backscattering images of Yedang and Goongpyeong agricultural reservoirs, acquired from May to October 2005. SAR technology has been advanced as a complementary and alternative approach to optical remote sensing and in-situ measurement. Water bodies in SAR imagery represent low brightness induced by low backscattering, and reservoir storage can be derived from the backscatter contrast with the level-area-volume relationship of each reservoir. The threshold segmentation over the routine preprocessing of SAR images such as speckle reduction and low-pass filtering concluded a significant correlation between the SAR-derived reservoir storage and the observation record in spite of the considerable disagreement. The result showed up critical limitations for adopting SAR data to reservoir monitoring as follows: the inappropriate specifications of SAR data, the unreliable rating curve of reservoir, the lack of climatic information such as wind and precipitation, the interruption of inside and neighboring land cover, and so on. Furthermore, better accuracy of SAR-based reservoir monitoring could be expected through different alternatives such as multi-sensor image fusion, water level measurement with altimeters or interferometry, etc.

  • The aim of this study was to evaluate the susceptibility from landslides in the Lai Chau region of Vietnam, using Geographic Information System (GIS) and remote sensing data, focusing on the relationship between tectonic fractures and landslides. Landslide locations were identified from an interpretation of aerial photographs and field surveys. Topographic and geological data and satellite images were collected, processed, and constructed into a spatial database using GIS data and image processing techniques, and a scheme of the tectonic fracturing of the crust in the Lai Chau region was established. In this scheme, Lai Chau was identified as a region with low crustal fractures, with the grade of tectonic fracture having a close relationship with landslide occurrence. The factors found to influence landslide occurrence were: topographic slope, topographic aspect, topographic curvature, distance from drainage, lithology, distance from a tectonic fracture and land cover. Landslide prone areas were analyzed and mapped using the landslide occurrence factors employing the probability-likelihood ratio method. The results of the analysis were verified using landslide location data, and these showed a satisfactory agreement between the hazard map and existing landslide location data.

  • The susceptibility of landslides and the effect of landslide-related factors at Penang in Malaysia using the Geographic Information System (GIS) and remote sensing data have been evaluated. Landslide locations were identified in the study area from interpretation of aerial photographs and from field surveys. Topographical and geological data and satellite images were collected, processed, and constructed into a spatial database using GIS and image processing. The factors chosen that influence landslide occurrence were: topographic slope, topographic aspect, topographic curvature and distance from drainage, all from the topographic database; lithology and distance from lineament, taken from the geologic database; land use from Landsat TM (Thermatic Mapper) satellite images; and the vegetation index value from SPOT HRV (High Resolution Visible) satellite images. Landslide hazardous areas were analysed and mapped using the landslide-occurrence factors employing the probability-frequency ratio method. To assess the effect of these factors, each factor was excluded from the analysis, and its effect verified using the landslide location data. As a result, land 'cover had relatively positive effects, and lithology had relatively negative effects on the landslide susceptibility maps in the study area. In addition, the landslide susceptibility maps using the all factors showed the relatively good results.

  • This paper proposes new design algorithms based on stochastic relaxation (SR) for an on-line vector quantizer (VQ) design. These proposed SR methods solve the local entrapment problems of the conventional Kohonen learning algorithm (KLA). These SR methods cover two different types depending upon the use of simulated annealing (SA) : the one that uses SA is called the OLVQ SA and the other the OLVQ SR. These methods arc combined with the KLA and therefore preserve the its convergence properties. Experimental results for Gauss Markov sources, real speech and image demonstrate that the proposed algorithms can consistently provide better codebooks than the KLA.

  • This paper presents an adaptive active tracking system with sector based scanning for a single PTZ camera. Dividing sectors on an image reduces the search space to shorten selection time so that the system can cover many targets. Upon the selection of a target, the system estimates the target trajectory to predict the zooming location with a finite amount of time for camera movement. Advanced estimation techniques using probabilistic reason suffer from the unknown object dynamics and the inaccurate estimation compromises the zooming level to prevent tracking failure. The proposed system uses the simple piecewise estimation with a few frames to cope with fast moving objects and/or slow camera movements. The target is tracked in multiple steps and the zooming time for each step is determined by maximizing the zooming level within the expected variation of object velocity and detection. The number of zooming steps is adaptively determined according to target speed. In addition, the iterative estimation of a zooming location with camera movement time compensates for the target prediction error due to the difference between speeds of a target and a camera. The effectiveness of the proposed method is validated by simulations and real time experiments.
