  • Resin impregnation of carbon materials was affected by surface of carbon materials. The surface of carbon materials with coupling treatment improved comparability and wettability with resin, and that increased impregnation efficiency and properties of carbon materials. As a results of FT-IR, The silanol was coated on carbon surface with one layer. Coupling treatment of carbon materials increased impregnation efficiency, which improved porosity, mechanical strength, density and friction behavior.

  • Blends of silicone rubber (VMQ) and liquid crystalline polymer (LCP) were prepared using a melt blending technique in the presence and absence of glass fiber and coupling agents. The effect of glass fiber and coupling agents on the thermal, dynamic mechanical, morphological pro-perties and cure characteristics of VMQ/LCP blends were studied. The vinyl silane coupling agent showed a significant effect on the above mentioned properties of VMQ/LCP blends by reacting at the interface between VMQ and LCP. The viscosity of the VMQ/LCP blends decreased with the addition of a coupling agent. A substantial improvement in storage modulus of VMQ/LCP blends was observed in the presence of glass fiber and coupling agents. However, as a coupling agent vinyl silane proved to be better than amine for the VMQ/LCP-glass-containing blends. The thermal stability of the pure silicone rubber was higher than those of the blends. This high thermal stability of silicone rubber was attributed to the Si-O-Si bonds. However, the thermal stability of the blends decreased further in the presence of a coupling agent, possibly due to a decrease in blend crystallinity.

  • Coupling effects of the stemming materials for single borehole were studied by AUTODYN analysis and compared to understand the role of different stemming materials on transmitting the pressure from blasthole to the surrounding rocks. Five different material properties, air, sand, water, 10% and 20% gelatin were selected. Authors assumed that high pressure detected in borehole means better fragmentation. Simulations show that these coupling materials lead to different level of pressure in the blasting hole and 20% gelatin turns out to be highest among them. Results show that gelatin can be used as better coupling material than sand or water.

  • We present the effect of a coupling agent on the optoelectrical properties of few-walled carbon nanotube (FWCNT)/epoxy resin hybrid films fabricated on glass substrates. The FWCNT/epoxy resin mixture solution was successfully prepared by the direct mixing of a $HNO_3$-treated FWCNT solution and epoxy resin. FWCNT/binder hybrid films containing different amounts of the coupling agent were then fabricated on UV-ozone-treated glass substrates. To determine the critical binder content ($X_c$), the effects of varying the binder content in the FWCNT/silane hybrid films on their optoelectrical properties were investigated. In this system, the $X_c$ value was approximately 75 wt%. It was found that above $X_c$, the coupling agent effectively decreased the sheet resistance of the films. From microscopy images, it was observed that by adding the coupling agent, more uniform FWCNT/binder films were formed.

  • Herein, a correlation between B-site cation order and spin-phonon coupling in La2NiMnO6 double perovskite has been investigated. Raman spectra of La2NiMnO6 double perovskite annealed at 950 and 1400℃ have been measured in the 140-598 K range. A substantial softening of the phonon modes has been observed below the Curie temperature, which emphasized the presence of the spin-phonon coupling in the system. The spin-phonon coupling was found to be stronger in relatively more ordered La2NiMnO6 double perovskite. Thus, the magnitude of spin-phonon coupling was influenced by the Ni/Mn cation order.

  • The effect of titanate coupling agents on the electrical and mechanical properties of conductive poly (vinyl chloride)-nickel composite was studied as functions of filler concentration, the variation of the amount of titanate coupling agents and the type of titanate coupling agents. It was found that the electrical and mechanical properties of PVC-Ni system were improved by the treatment of titanate coupling agents, but the excessive use of titanate coupling agents influenced to give worse properties.

  • The effects of coupling agent on the interface characteristics between epoxy resin and natural zeolite were studied by SEM, optical microscope and universal testing machine (UTM). Epoxy resin as a matrix was diglycidyl ether of bisphenol A (DGEBA)/4,4'-methylene dianiline (MDA)/malononitrile (MN) system and natural zeolite as an inorganic fillet was produced in Korea. With the increment of zeolite content, tensile strength decreased and it was due to the different elastic moduli of two materials. When external stress was loaded on the composites, the stress concentrated on the weakly bonded interface and crack grew easily. To improve the interface characteristics, the surface of the natural zeolite was treated with the silane coupling agent and it was found that the tensile strength was increased. The morphology of the interface showed that the bonding characteristics were modified by coupling agent.

  • It is hard to expect excellent electrical, mechanical and chemical properties from most of the composite materials presently used as insulators due to insufficient wettability property caused by the difference of interfacial properties between the matrix material and the reinforcer. Therefore, various interfacial coupling agents have been developed to improve the interfacial properties of composite materials. But if the wettable coupling agents are used outdoor for a long time, change in quality takes place in the coupling agents themselves, bringing about deterioration of the properties of the composite materials. In this study, glass surface was treated by plasma to examine the effect of dry interface treatment without coupling agent. It was identified that the optimum parameters for the best wettability of the samples at the time of generation of plasma were oxygen atmosphere, 0.1 torr of system pressure, 100 W of discharge power, and 3 minutes of discharge time. Also, the surface resistance rate and dielectric property were improved.
