A procedure is formulated, in this paper, to compute the bifurcation modes born by the stability change of normal modes, and to compute the forced responses associated with bifurcation modes in inertially and elastically coupled nonlinear oscillators. It is assumed that a saddle-loop is formed in Poincare map at the stability chage of normal modes. In order to test the validity of procedure, it is applied to one-to-one internal resonant systems in which the solutions are guaranteed within the order of a small perturbation parameter. The procedure is also applied to the exact system in which normal modes are written in exact form and the stability of normal modes can be exactly determined. In this system the stability change of normal modes occurs several times so that various types of bifurcation modes are created. A method is described to identify a fixed point on Poincare map as one of bifurcation modes. The limitations and advantage of proposed procedure are discussed.

A general procedure for the numerical solution of coupled, nonlinear, differential two-point boundary-value problems, solutions of which are crucial to the controller design, has been developed and demonstrated. A fixed-end-points, free-terminal-time, optimal-control problem, which is derived from Pontryagin's Maximum Principle, is solved by an extension of Davidenko's method, a differential form of Newton's method, for algebraic root finding. By a discretization process like finite differences, the differential equations are converted to a nonlinear algebraic system. Davidenko's method reconverts this into a pseudo-time-dependent set of implicitly coupled ODEs suitable for solution by modern, high-performance solvers. Another important advantage of Davidenko's method related to the time-optimal problem is that the terminal time can be computed by treating this unkown as an additional variable and sup- plying the Hamiltonian at the terminal time as an additional equation. Davidenko's method uas used to produce optimal trajectories of a single-degree-of-freedom problem. This numerical method provides switching times for open-loop control, minimized terminal time and optimal input torque sequences. This numerical technique could easily be adapted to the multi-point boundary-value problems.
Thermocapillary convection in an open cylindrical annulus heated from the inside wall is investigated by two-dimensional numerical simulations. The deformable free surface is obtained as a solution of the coupled transport equations at fixed Prandtl and aspect ratio. Only steady convection can be realized in this axisymmetric computations with either non-deformable or deformable surfaces. Dynamic free-surface deformations do not induce transitions to oscillatory convection even at large Reynolds numbers. Free surfaces are convex near the cold wall due to the stagnation point, and concave near the hot wall. Free surface deformation increases with increasing Ca at a fixed Re. Two peaks appear at the free surface with low Re, while additional ripples, four peaks, occur at larger Re. Thermocapillary convection in the open annulus interior is insensitive to variations in Ca.

Modern ultra-large container carriers can be exposed to the unprecedented springing excitation from ocean waves due to their relatively low torsional rigidity. Large deck opening on the deck of container carriers tends to cause warping distortion of hull structure under wave-induced excitation, eventually leading to the higher chance of resonance vibration between its torsional response and incoming waves. To handle this problem, a higher-order B-spline Rankine panel method and Vlasov-beam FE model was directly coupled in the time domain, and the coupled equation was solved by using an implicit iterative method. In order to capture the complicated behavior of thin-walled open section girder, a sophisticated beam-based finite element model was developed, which takes into account warping distortion and shear-on-wall effect. Then, the developed beam model was directly coupled with the time-domain Rankine panel method for hydrodynamic problem by using the fixed-point iteration method. The developed computational scheme was validated through the comparison with the frequency-domain solution on the container carrier model in linear springing regime.

We proposed the beam tilted antenna by aperture coupled microstrip array, found out the values of design parameters by using Ensemble 5.1 of Ansoft Co., and analysed the performance of fabricated antenna. In order to point to the fixed satellite on the nothern hemisphere, 3 dB beamwidth of this antenna is 25$^{\circ}C$ to 65$^{\circ}C$. Operation bandwidth is 2.51GHz to 2.59GHz. The structure of this antenna is composed by 3 types of squared patches; reflector, driver, and director. The maximum antenna gain is 6.2dB at 2.56GHz and elevation angle of 42$^{\circ}C$. Front-to-Back ratio is more than 13dB at the same condition.

Virtually every digital signal processors(DSPs) support on-chip multi- memory banks that allow the processor to access multiple words of data from memory in a single instruction cycle. Also, all existing fixed-point DSPs have irregular architecture of heterogeneous register which contains multiple register files that are distributed and dedicated to different sets of instructions. Although there have been several studies conducted to efficiently assign data to multi-memory banks, most of them assumed processors with relatively simple, homogeneous general-purpose resisters. Therefore, several vendor-provided compilers fer DSPs were unable to efficiently assign data to multiple data memory banks. thereby often failing to generate highly optimized code fer their machines. This paper presents an algorithm that helps the compiler to efficiently assign data to multi- memory banks. Our algorithm differs from previous work in that it assigns variables to memory banks in separate, decoupled code generation phases, instead of a single, tightly-coupled phase. The experimental results have revealed that our decoupled algorithm greatly simplifies our code generation process; thus our compiler runs extremely fast, yet generates target code that is comparable In quality to the code generated by a coupled approach

This paper presents two algorithms based on the Jamshidian equation which is from the Black-Scholes partial differential equation. The first algorithm is for American call options and the second one is for American put options. They compute numerically free boundary and then option price, iteratively, because the free boundary and the option price are coupled implicitly. By the upwind finite-difference scheme, we discretize the Jamshidian equation with respect to asset variable s and set up a linear system whose solution is an approximation to the option value. Using the property that the coefficient matrix of this linear system is an M-matrix, we prove several theorems in order to formulate a bisection method, which generates a sequence of intervals converging to the fixed interval containing the free boundary value with error bound h. These algorithms have the accuracy of O(k + h), where k and h are step sizes of variables t and s, respectively. We prove that they are unconditionally stable. We applied our algorithms for a series of numerical experiments and compared them with other algorithms. Our algorithms are efficient and applicable to options with such constraints as r > d, $r{\leq}d$, long-time or short-time maturity T.

The paper concerns the description of the step by step development process of the new fixed blade runner called "Mixer" suitable for the uprating of the Francis turbines units installed at the older low head hydropower plants. In the paper the details of hydraulic and mechanical design are presented. Since the rotational speed of the new runner is significantly higher then the rotational speed of the original Francis one, the direct coupling of the turbine to the generator can be applied. The maximum efficiency at prescribed operational point was reached by the geometry optimization of two most important components. In the first step the optimization of the draft tube geometry was carried out. The condition for the draft tube geometry optimization was to design the new geometry of the draft tube within the original bad draft tube shape without any extensive civil works. The runner blade geometry optimization was carried out on the runner coupled with the draft tube domain. The blade geometry of the runner was optimized using automatic direct search optimization procedure. The method used for the objective function minimum search is a kind of the Nelder-Mead simplex method. The objective function concerns efficiency, required net head and cavitation features. After successful hydraulic design the modal and stress analysis was carried out on the prototype scale runner. The static pressure distribution from flow simulation was used as a load condition. The modal analysis in air and in water was carried out and the results were compared. The final runner was manufactured in model scale and it is going to be tested in hydraulic laboratory. Since the turbine with the fixed blade runner does not allow double regulation like in case of full Kaplan turbine, it can be profitably used mainly at power plants with smaller changes of operational conditions or in case with more units installed. The advantages are simple manufacturing, installation and therefore lower expenses and short delivery time for turbine uprating.

Two problems in the measurement of 6-DOF head vibration in very low frequency range were investigated in this study. One is how much error was involved in the estimation of three rotational and three translational motion at any specified point from measured 6 translational accelerations. The other is quantitative and qualitative influence of gravity on DC and AC component of the estimated accelerations in 6 degree of freedom, which were derived from pick-ups fixed on a helmet. In the study the effect of nonlinear terms on the estimation of 6 degree of freedom accelerations was negligible but gravity effect must be considered carefully.

This paper considers a fully coupled 3D BEM-FEM analysis for the ship structural hydroelasticity problem in waves. Fluid flows and structural responses are analyzed by using a 3D Rankine panel method and a 3D finite element method, respectively. The two methods are fully coupled in the time domain using a fixed-point iteration scheme, and a relaxation scheme is applied for improve convergence. In order to validate the developed method, numerical tests are carried out for a barge model. The computed natural frequency, motion responses, and time histories of stress are compared with the results of the beam-based hydroelasticity program, WISH-FLEX, which was thoroughly validated in previous studies. This study extends to a real-ship application, particularly the springing analysis for a 6500 TEU containership. Based on this study, it is found that the present method provides reliable solutions to the ship hydroelasticity problems.
