  • Beam-column joints in the frame structure are at high risk of brittle shear failure which would lead to significant residual deformation and even the collapse of the structure during an earthquake. In order to improve the damage issue and enhance the recoverability of the beam-column joints, a sector lead rubber damper (SLRD) has been developed. The SLRD can increase the bearing capacity and energy dissipation capacity, and also demonstrating recoverability of seismic performance following cyclic loading. In this paper, the hysteretic behavior of SLRD was experimentally investigated in terms of the regular hysteretic behavior, large deformation behavior and fatigue behavior. Furthermore, a parametric analysis was performed to study the influence of the primary design parameters on the hysteretic behavior of SLRD. The results show that SLRD resist the exerted loading through the shear capacity of both rubber parts coupled with the lead cores in the pre-yielding stage of lead cores. In the post-yielding phase, it is only the rubber parts of the SLRD that provide the shear capacity while the lead cores primarily dissipate the energy through shear deformation. The SLRD possesses a robust capacity for large deformation and can sustain hysteretic behavior when subjected to a loading rotation angle of 1/7 (equivalent to 200% shear strain of the rubber component). Furthermore, it demonstrates excellent fatigue resistance, with a degradation of critical behavior indices by no more than 15% in comparison to initial values even after 30 cycles. As for the designing practice of SLRD, it is recommended to adopt the double lead core scheme, along with a rubber material having the lowest possible shear modulus while meeting the desired bearing capacity and a thickness ratio of 0.4 to 0.5 for the thin steel plate.

  • LOCA (Loss Of Coolant Accident) is one of the most important utmost accidents for Prestressed Concrete Containment Vessel (PCCV) due to its coupled effect of high temperature and inner pressure. In this paper, heat conduction analysis is used to obtain the LOCA temperature distribution of PCCV. Then the elastic internal force of PCCV under LOCA temperature is analyzed by using both simplified theoretical method and FEM (finite element methods) method. Considering the coupled effect of LOCA temperature, a nonlinear elasto-plasitic analysis is conducted for PCCV under utmost internal pressure considering three failure criteria. Results show that the LOCA temperature distribution is strongly nonlinear along the shell thickness at the early time; the moment result of simplified analysis is well coincident with the one of numerical analysis at weak constraint area; while in the strong constrained area, the value of moments and membrane forces fluctuate dramatically; the simplified and numerical analysis both show that the maximum moment occurs at 6hrs after LOCA.; the strain of PCCV under LOCA temperature is larger than the one of no temperature under elasto-plastic analysis; the LOCA temperature of 6hrs has the greatest influence on the ultimate bearing capacity with 8.43% decrease for failure criteria 1 and 2.65% decrease for failure criteria 3.

(Mohr Coulomb with Rankine Tensile cut-off Model)과 HDP 모델(Nonlinear Hyperbolic Drucker-Prager Model)을 각각 적용하였으며, 말뚝의 길이 및 너비 조건을 선정해 수치해석 결과를 비교 및 분석하였다.

  • It is essential to analyze rare mutations in many fields of biomedical research. However, the detection of rare mutations is usually failed due to the interference of predominant wild-type DNA surrounded. Herein we describe a sensitive and facile method of detecting rare point mutation on the basis of allele-specific amplification in emulsion PCR. The identification and selective amplification of rare mutation are accomplished in one-pot reaction. The allele-specific primers coupled on magnetic beads allow the exclusive amplification and enrichment of the mutant amplicons. The productive beads bearing mutant amplicons are subsequently stained with the fluorescent dyes. Thus, the rare point mutations with a percentage as low as 0.1%, can be detected by fluorescent analysis. The relative percentages of mutation among different samples can be roughly accessed by counting the fraction of fluorescent positive beads through flow cytometry.

  • The increasing needs for higher cargo capacity in the container vessels' fleet has led to ship builder's demand for higher power output rating engine to meet the propulsion requirement, thus, leading to the development of super large two stroke low speed diesel engines. This large sized bore engines with more than 12 cylinders are capable of delivering power output up to more than 100,000 bhp at maximum continuous rating. The thrust variation force due to axial vibration occurring in propulsion shafting of these ships are transmitted to ship structure via thrust bearing. This force may vibrate the super structure of ship in the fore-aft direction and the fatigue strength of crank shaft can be decreased by additional bending stress increase in crank shaft pin and journal. In this paper, the axial vibration of propulsion shafting system on the 14RT-flex96C super large diesel engine with 14 cylinders is identified by theoretical analysis and vibration measurement.

  • The disc-pad brake system is an important part of automobile safety system. During braking, the kinetic energy and potential energies of a moving vehicle are converted into the thermal energy through frictional heat between the brake disc and the pads. Most of the thermal energy dissipated through the brake disc. The temperature could be exceed the critical value for a given material, which leads to undesirable effects, such as the brake fade, premature wear, brake fluid vaporization, bearing failure, thermal cracks, and thermallyexcited vibration. The object of the present study is to investigate temperature field and temperature variation of brake disc and pad during single brake. The brake disc is decelerated at the initial speed with constant acceleration, until the disc comes to stop. The pad-disc brake assembly is built by 3D model with the appropriate boundary condition. In the simulation process, the mechanical loads are applied to the thermomechanical coupling analysis in order to simulate the process of heat produced by friction.

  • As background significantly affects measurement accuracy and a detection limit in determination of the trace amounts of uranium, it is necessary to determine the impurities in the Lexan detector film for single particle measurements by thermal ionization mass spectrometry coupled with fission track technique (FT-TIMS). We have prepared various micro sizes of the blank Lexan detector film using a micromanipulation technique for uranium measurements by TIMS. Few tens of fg of uranium background with no remarkable dependency on the film sizes were observed in the blank Lexan films with the sizes from $50{\times}50\;{\mu}m^2$ to $300{\times}300\;{\mu}m^2$. Based on the determination of the uranium background in the Lexan film, any background correction is necessary in the isotopic analysis of a uranium single particle with micron sizes when the particle bearing Lexan film is dissected with less than $300{\times}300\;{\mu}m^2$ size. The isotopic analysis of a uranium particle in U030 standard material using TIMS was carried out to verify the applicability of the Lexan film to the single particle analysis with high accuracy and precision.

  • This study deals with the dynamic response of a rotor in Switched Reluctance Motor(SRM) caused by the unbalance force such as the unbalanced mass and electromagnetic force. The method to analyze the mechanical response of the rotor supported on the bearing is based on an extension of the 3-dimensional Transfer Matrix Method(TMM) coupled with the electromagnetic force calculated by Maxwell stress tensor. The displacement of the rotor as a function of frequency according to the position of the unbalanced mass is evaluated from the frequency response function (FRF). The rotor behaviour with the electromagnetic force is compared with that without the electromagnetic force. In addition, the resonance speeds and the vibration modes are analyzed and demonstrated in this paper. These results are useful in designing the mechanical rotor and in balancing properly the rotor to reduce vibration and noise.

  • Falls are a major sources of death and injury in elderly people. Aged-related changes in the physiological systems which contribute to the maintenance of balance are well documented in older adults. These changes coupled with age-related changes in muscle and bone are likely to contribute to an increased risk of falls in this population. Regular exercise may be one way of preventing falls and fall-related fractures. However, the optimal exercise prescription to prevent falls has not yet been defined. On the literature review of exercise intervention for fall prevention in the elderly, exercise appeared to be a useful tool in fall prevention by improving fall risk factors. The optimum exercise prescription; moderate intensity frequency of 3-4 times per week, duration of 30-60minutes can contribute to decreased hazards and number of fall. Fall prevention protocol should include safety, falling effect, enjoyment, and easiness to follow for older people. Effective exercise programs suggested for fall prevention were such as weight-bearing exercise, resistance exercise, lower muscle strength with elastic band, swiss ball exercise walking, tai chi, and yoga.
