This article discusses the dynamic response of Bernoulli-Euler straight beam with angular elastic supports subjected to moving load with variable velocity. A new engineering approach for determination of the dynamic effect from the moving load on the stressed and strained state of the beam has been developed. A dynamic coefficient, a ratio of the dynamic to the static deflection of the beam, has been defined on the base of an infinite geometrical absolutely summable series. Generalization of the R. Willis' equation has been carried out: generalized boundary conditions have been introduced; the generalized elastic curve's equation on the base of infinite trigonometric series method has been obtained; the forces of inertia from normal and Coriolis accelerations and reduced beam mass have been taken into account. The influence of the boundary conditions and kinematic characteristics of the moving load on the dynamic coefficient has been investigated. As a result, the dynamic stressed and strained state has been obtained as a multiplication of the static one with the dynamic coefficient. The developed approach has been compared with a finite element one for a concrete engineering case and thus its authenticity has been proved.
Interaction of blood flow and leaflet behavior in a bileaflet mechanical heart valve was investigated using computational analysis. Blood flows of a Newtonian fluid and a non-Newtonian fluid with Carreau model were modeled as pulsatile, laminar, and incompressible. A finite volume computational fluid dynamics code and a finite element structure dynamics code were used concurrently to solve the flow and structure equations, respectively, where the two equations were strongly coupled. Physiologic ventricular and aortic pressure waveforms were used as flow boundary conditions. Flow fields, leaflet behaviors, and shear stresses with time were obtained for Newtonian and non-Newtonian fluid cases. At the fully opened phase three jets through the leaflets were found and large vortices were present in the sinus area. At the very final stage of the closing phase, the angular velocity of the leaflet was enormously large. Large shear stress was found on leaflet tips and in the orifice region between two leaflets at the final stage of closing phase. This method using fluid-structure interaction turned out to be a useful tool to analyze the different designs of existing and future bileaflet valves.
The building frame and its foundation along with the soil on which it rests, together constitute a complete structural system. In the conventional analysis, a structure is analysed as an independent frame assuming unyielding supports and the interactive response of soil-foundation is disregarded. This kind of analysis does not provide realistic behaviour and sometimes may cause failure of the structure. Also, the conventional analysis considers infill wall as non-structural elements and ignores its interaction with the bounding frame. In fact, the infill wall provides lateral stiffness and thus plays vital role in resisting the seismic forces. Thus, it is essential to consider its effect especially in case of high rise buildings. In the present research work the building frame, infill wall, isolated column footings (open foundation) and soil mass are considered to act as a single integral compatible structural unit to predict the nonlinear interaction behaviour of the composite system under seismic forces. The coupled isoparametric finite-infinite elements have been used for modelling of the interaction system. The material of the frame, infill and column footings has been assumed to follow perfectly linear elastic relationship whereas the well known hyperbolic soil model is used to account for the nonlinearity of the soil mass.

This paper deals with stress corrosion cracking behavior of high strength steel exposed to marine environments. The objective is to determine the time to failure as a function of hydrogen concentration and tensile stress in the wires. A crack growth curve is modeled using finite element method (FEM) program. The coupled hydrogen diffusion-stress analyses of SCC were programmed separately. The first part is calculating stress and stress intensity /sup 1)/factor of a cylindrical shell, prestressing tendon or suspension bridge wires, from the initiation of cracks to rupture. Virtual crack extension method, contour integral method, and crack tip elements are used for the calculation of stresses in front of the crack tip. Comparisons of the result show a good agreement with the analytical equations and wire tests. The second part of the study deals with the programming of hydrogen diffusion, affected by hydrostatic stress, calculated at the location of boundary of plastic area around the crack tip. The results of paper can be used in the design and management of prestressed structures, cable stayed and suspension bridges. Time dependent correlated parallel reliabilities of a cable, composed of 36 wires, were evaluated by the consideration of the deterioration of stress corrosion cracking.

In order to design the power appratus such ac bus bar, the current carrying ampacity should be determined, Since it is limited by maxium operating temperature, it is very important to predict temperature-rise on it. The main causes to raise temperature are joule's loss in the current carrying conductor and induced circulating and eddy current in the tank. The heat transfer is divided into convection and radiation on boundary, determining convection heat transfer coefficient is not easy. This paper propose a new technique that can be used to estimate the temperature rise in the extra high voltage bus bar. The heat transfer coefficient is analytically calculated by applying Nusselt Number depending on temperature as well as model geometry. The analytic method which use heat transfer coefficient is coupled with finite element method. The temperature distribution in the bus bar by the proposed method shows good agreement with experimental data.
In this paper, liquid sloshing effects in rectangular storage structures for spent fuel under earthquake loadings are investigated. Eulerian and Lagrangian approaches are presented. The Eulerian approach is carried out by solving the boundary value problem for the fluid motion. In the Lagrangian approach, the fluid as well as the storage structure is modelled by the finite element method. The fluid region is discretized by using fluid elements. The (1*1)-reduced integration is carried out for constructing the stiffness matrices of the fluid elements. Seismic analysis of the coupled system is carried out by the response spectra method. The numerical results show that the fluid forces on the wall obtained by two approaches are in good agreements. By including the effect of the wall flexibility, the hydrodynamic forces due to fluid motion can be increased very significantly.
Launch vehicles are subject to airborne acoustic loads during atmospheric flight and these effects become pronounced especially in transonic region. As the vibration due to the acoustic loads can cause malfunction of payloads, it is essential to predict and reduce the acoustic loads. In this study, a complete process has been developed for predicting airborne vibro-acoustic environment inside the payload pairing and subsequent noise reduction procedure employing acoustic blankets and Helmholtz resonators. Acoustic loads were predicted by Reynolds-Averaged Navier-Stokes (RANS) analysis and a semi-empirical model for pressure fluctuation inside turbulent boundary layer. Coupled vibro-acoustic analysis was performed using VA One SEA's Finite Element Statistical Energy Analysis (FE-SEA) hybrid module and ANSYS APDL. The process has been applied to a hammerhead launch vehicle to evaluate the effect of acoustic load reduction and accordingly to verify the effectiveness of the process. The presently developed process enables to obtain quick analysis result with reasonable accuracy and thus is expected to be useful in the initial design phase of a launch vehicle.

One of the most significant problems in the processing of composite materials is residual stresses. The residual stresses may be high enough to cause cracking in the matrix even before external loads are applied and can degrade the integrity of composite structures. In this study, thermo-viscoelastic residual stresses occurred in the polymeric composite cylinder are investigated. This type of structure is used for the launch vehicle fuselage. The time and degree of cure dependent thermo-viscoelastic constitutive equations are developed and coupled with a thermo-chemical process model. These equations are solved with the finite element method to predict the residual stresses in the composite structures during cure. A launch vehicle experiences high thermal loads during flight and re-entry due to aerodynamic heating or propulsion heat, and the thermal loads may cause thermal buckling on the structure. In this study the thermal buckling analysis of composite cylinders are performed. Two boundary conditions such as all clamped and all simply supported are used for the analysis. The effects of laminates stacking sequences, shapes and residual stresses on the critical buckling temperatures of composite cylinders are investigated. The thermal buckling analysis is performed using ABAQUS.
The analysis of magnetic fields(2-D) induced by line currents, such as Overhead Trolley Lines or Transmission Lines, is not so easy by using the standard Finite Element Method(FEM). Mesh generation is one of the most important processes in the standard FEM. Because, the current region is relatively small compared with whole region, and actually is a line without thickness, the mesh refinement around the source lines yields many demerits. A way of supplement such a defect, we proposed the coupling scheme of analytical solution and FEM. In this study, the analytical solution is adopted around the region of line currents and FE solution is a lied to the rest of source region. And the two types of solution are coupled at the artificial boundary. To verify the usefulness of proposed algorithm, simplified model with magnetic material in FE region is chosen and analyzed. The results are compared with those of standard FEM. And the errors between them can be reduced by increasing harmonic orders.

In this paper, derivation of the STL (Sound Transmission Loss) of a square plate installed in an impedance tube is discussed using an analytic method. Coupled motion of the plate vibration and acoustic field is considered. Vibration of the plate and pressure field inside the tube are expressed in terms of the infinite series of modal functions. Under the plane wave assumption, it is shown that consideration of the first few modes yields sufficiently accurate results. When the boundary of the plate is clamped, vibration mode is assumed as a multiplication of the beam modes corresponding to the crosswise directions. The natural frequencies of the clamped plate are calculated using the Rayleigh-Ritz method. It is found that the STL shows a dip at the lowest natural frequency of the plate, and increases as the frequency decreases below the natural frequency. Comparison of the result in this paper with the STL obtained by measurements and FE computations in the reference shows an excellent agreement.
