  • Vibration of disk drive spindle is one of the major limiting factors in achieving higher track densities in hard disk drives. Vibration of a BLDC motor is a coupled phenomenon between mechanical characteristics and magnetic origins through the motor air-gap. In this paper, radial magnetic forces for symmetric and asymmetric BLDC motor are calculated with respect to the various rotor eccentricity using analytic method. Based on the results of the radial magnetic forces, transient whirl responses of the spindle motor are analyzed using finite element and transfer matrices. Results show that an asymmetric motor has a worse effects on unbalanced magnetic forces and vibration when mechanical and magnetic coupling exists.

  • Nowadays, offshore wind energy experiences a rapid development because of its wind condition and no noise impact problem. Different from Europe, offshore wind is just started in Asia. More work and research are needed in Korea. In this work, a three-bladed upwind variable speed pitch controlled 5MW wind turbine on a jacket support structure is used. During the simulation, several design load cases are investigated in two different fully coupled aero-hydro-servo-elastic codes. Some critical loads on the foundation are compared and analyzed.

  • The vibration of an axially moving string is studied when the string has geometric non-linearity and translating acceleration. Based upon the von karman strain theory, the equations of motion are derived considering the longitudinal and transverse deflection. The equation for the longitudinal vibration is linear and uncoupled, while the equation for the transverse vibration is non-linear and coupled between the longitudinal and transverse deflections. These equations are discretized by using the Galerkin approximation after they are transformed into the variational equations, i.e. the weak forms so that the admissible and comparison functions can be used for the bases of the longitudinal and transverse deflections respectively. With the discretized nonlinear equations, the time responses are investigated by using the generalized-$\alpha$ method.

  • In this paper, the Single-stage Transmission type Injectiong-Locked Oscillator(STILO) was designed and fabicated for the Active Integrated Phased Array Antenna(AIPAA) system. The STILO, which was designed and fabricated by injection-locked technique and hair-pin resonator, has the same 210MHz frequency tuning range of the Voltage Controlled Oscillator(VCO) used by varactor. The locking bandwidth of STILO with 11.5MHz bandwidth, is much better than that of the Injection-Locked Dielectric Resonator Oscillator(ILDRO), And the STILO has the improved noise characteristics in AM, FM, and PM. This STILO is useful for the AIPAA, the coupled VCO array, an the MMIC structure.

  • Carbon-13 NMR spectroscopy(abbreviated CMR) is an extremely powerful strategy for the study of natural organic molecules. The information derivable from CMR is often complementary to that obtianed form proton NMR spectroscopy (PMR). Because of low natural abundance of $^{13}C$ nucleus (1.1%) coupled with low inherent sensitivity relative to $^{1}H$ (about 1/64), CMR experiment is approximately 6000 times less sensitive than PMR. Despite of this, now it is possible to measure CMR of small amount of compound by the development of three significant ingenious techniques, i. e. a) computer time-averaging, b) wide-band (or noise modulated) proton decoupling, and c) pulsed Fourier transform (FT) NMR : For general recognition of CMR, its fundamental aspects of CMR are briefly reviewed.

  • Many Applications of scientific research have coupled with functional data signal clustering techniques to discover novel characteristics that can be used for the diagnoses of several issues. In this article we present an interpretable multi-scale cluster hierarchy framework for clustering functional data using its multi-aspect frequency information. The suggested method focuses on how to effectively select transformed features/variables in unsupervised manner so that finally reduce the data dimension and achieve the multi-purposed clustering. Specially, we apply our suggested method to mutual fund returns and make superior-performing funds group based on different aspects such as global patterns, seasonal variations, levels of noise, and their combinations. To promise our method producing a quality cluster hierarchy, we give some empirical results under the simulation study and a set of real life data. This research will contribute to financial market analysis and flexibly fit to other research fields with clustering purposes.

  • In this paper, we propose a voltage-controlled ring oscillator (VCO) for a 900 MHz low-noise fractional-N frequency synthesizer. The VCO delay cell is based on an nMOS source-coupled pair with load elements [1] and a combined tail current sources which consist of a large and a small current source to control the integer and fractional behaviors, respectively. The Spectre simulation results of the scheme in a 0.18um CMOS process show the accurate control of the KVCO better than the conventional one.

  • This paper presents a novel method to carry out monitoring of transport infrastructure such as pavements and bridges through the analysis of vehicle accelerations. An algorithm is developed for the identification of dynamic vehicle-bridge interaction forces using the vehicle response. Moving force identification theory is applied to a vehicle model in order to identify these dynamic forces between the vehicle and the road and/or bridge. A coupled half-car vehicle-bridge interaction model is used in theoretical simulations to test the effectiveness of the approach in identifying the forces. The potential of the method to identify the global bending stiffness of the bridge and to predict the pavement roughness is presented. The method is tested for a range of bridge spans using theoretical simulations and the influences of road roughness and signal noise on the accuracy of the results are investigated.

  • The radiated sound pressure induced by low-velocity impact is obtained by solving the Rayleigh integral equation. This paper established the sound analysis procedure using impact analysis model. For structurally radiated noise, the sound field is directly coupled to the structural motion. Therefore the impact response should be analyzed. The impact response is computed using the spring-mass model. And the influence of damage on the sound pressure and impacted force history of laminated were investigated. The results show that both radiated sound pressure and impact force history are strongly influenced by damage on laminated.

  • A 120 GHz voltage controlled oscillator (VCO) with a divider chain including an injection locked frequency divider (ILFD) and six static frequency dividers is demonstrated using 65-nm CMOS technology. The VCO is designed based on the LC cross-coupled push-push structure and operates around 120 GHz. The 60 GHz ILFD at the first stage of the frequency divider chain is based on a similar topology as the core of the VCO to ensure the frequency alignment between the two circuit blocks. The static divider chain is composed of D-flip flops, providing a 64 division ratio. The entire circuit consumes a DC power of 68.5 mW with the chip size of $1385{\times}835{\mu}m^2$.
