Non-volatile counter is a counter that maintains the value without external power supply. It has been used for the applications related to warranty issues to count and record certain events such as power cycles, operating time, hard resets, and timeouts. It has been conventionally implemented with volatile memory-based counter and battery backup or non-volatile memory such as EEPROM. Both of them have a lifetime issue due to the limited lifetime of the battery and the endurance of the non-volatile memory cells, which incurs significant redundancy in design. In this paper, we introduce a hybrid architecture of volatile (SRAM) and non-volatile memory (EEPROM) cells to achieve required lifetime of the non-volatile counter with smaller cost. We conduct a design space exploration of the proposed hybrid architecture with the parameters of various kinds of non-volatile memories. The analysis result shows that the proposed hybrid non-volatile counter can extend the lifetime up to 6 times compared to the battery-backup volatile memory-based implementation.

NUMA(Non-Uniform Memory Access)구조의 공유 메모리 다중처리기 시스템에서 참조 국지성의 활용은 병렬 처리의 성능에 큰 영항을 미친다. 본 논문에서는 운영체제가 참조 국지성을 관리하는데 도움을 주기위한 개선된 하드웨어 메모리 참조 카운터를 제시한다. 제신된 참조 카운터 방식에서는 기존의 참조 카운터들과는 달리 운영체제의 페이지 복사 정책을 다양한 메모리 참조 패턴에 적응시키기 위해 카운터의 값이 동적으로 그리고 주기적으로 조정된다. 우리는 실제 병렬 응용 프로그램들을 사용한 실행 구동형 시뮬레이션을 통해 제시된 "조정가능한 지연 카운터"가 이들의 성능에 미치는 영향을 평가하였다. 이 성능평가를 통해 '조정가능한 자연 카운터"를 이용한 메모리 복사 정책이 기존의 카운터를 이용한 정책보다 나은 성능을 보인다는 것과 시뮬레이션에 사용된 대부분의 병렬 응용 프로그램에 대해 고른 성능을 나타낸다는 것을 확인하였다.

이 글은 한국 사회에 내재된 무수히 많은 대항기억들 중 '민간인학살사건'이라는 대항기억을 역사화 하기 위하여 구술이라는 방법론적 매개체에 대한 이론적 방법론적 논의를 시작해보기 위함이다. 즉 구술 자료의 수집에 앞서 '구술'이라는 행위의 근본적 바탕이 되는 '기억'에 대한 논의를 중심으로 지배기억과 대항기억의 발생과정, 대항기억으로써의 구술이 가지는 의미, 소외된 기억들의 역사화 필요성을 이론화한 후 구술사연구방법론, 구술기록의 질적연구방법론에 대한 논의를 통해 신뢰성이 높은 구술기록의 생산을 모색해보고자 하는 것이다. 이러한 기초를 바탕으로 구술이라는 특정 방법론에 대한 정확한 숙지 아래에서 어떤 질 좋은 기록물이 생산되는지를 알아볼 수 있는 한 사례로써 민간인 학살사건의 연구대상으로 선정된 경상북도 영덕군 창수면에 대한 구술기록화 과정이 진행되었다.

문화콘텐츠가 문화산업의 중심으로 부상하면서, 콘텐츠와 이를 활용한 문화산업에 대한 관심이 어느 때 보다 높다. 문화는 기억을 중심으로 이루어지며, 기억을 배제한 문화란 존재할 수 없다. 기억은 개인의 차원을 넘어 집단적, 사회적 기억으로 작용한다. 또한 문화는 기억을 담지할 매체를 필연적으로 요구하는데, 최근의 영상텍스트는 새로운 기억매체로서 주목받고 있다. 이러한 점에서 이 논문은 사회 문화적 기억으로서 '기억'의 의미를 탐색해 보고, 중국 6세대 영화를 중심으로 사회 문화적 기억과 그것을 담지해내는 영상텍스트의 기억복원의 의미를 분석하는 데 초점을 두었다. 또한 '대항기억'으로서 '개인기억'의 문화적 의의를 탐색하고, 이를 통해 기억산업과 콘텐츠의 접합 가능성을 찾아보는 시도를 모색했다. 6세대 영화를 주목한 이유는 중국 당국이 제시하는 '공식기억'에 대항하며 '지하'에서 만들어졌던 이들 영화가 국제적인 영화제에서 괄목한 만한 성과를 획득해 나가고 있기 때문이다.

본 연구는 폭력성 게임 내에서 사실적인 묘사(선혈 색, 비명 소리, 일인칭 시점) 방식이 사용자 각성(arousal), 현존감(presence), 그리고 게임 내에서의 사건 장소에 대한 기억력(memory)에 미치는 영향력을 테스트 하였다. 또한 사용자가 느끼는 현존감과 각성의 관계도 분석되었는데, 최신 3D 슈팅 게임인 CounterStrike를 변형시켜 실험을 진행하였다. 실험 결과, 사실적인 선혈(붉은색)과 소리(날카로운 비명)는 사용자의 경험 정도에 관계없이 각성 정도를 증대시키는 것으로 나타났으며, 각성 정도는 사용자의 현존감과 유의미한 상관 관계를 보여주었다. 특히, 현존감의 세부 요인인 관여도(engagement)는 기억력을 높이는데 가장 결정적인 역할을 하였으며, 각성과 기억력을 매개하는 변수인 것으로 분석되었다. 그러나, 일인칭 시점은 각성에는 영향을 주지 않았으며 관여도에 부적인 영향을 주는 것으로 나타났다.

The structure of 2-bit/cell flash memory device was characterized for sub-50 nm non-volatile memory (NVM) technology. The memory cell has spacer-type storage nodes on both sidewalls in a recessed channel region, and is erased (or programmed) by using band-to-band tunneling hot-hole injection (or channel hot-electron injection). It was shown that counter channel doping near the bottom of the recessed channel is very important and can improve the $V_{th}$ margin for 2-bit/cell operation by ${\sim}2.5$ times. By controlling doping profiles of the channel doping and the counter channel doping in the recessed channel region, we could obtain the $V_{th}$ margin more than ${\sim}1.5V$. For a bit-programmed cell, reasonable bit-erasing characteristics were shown with the bias and stress pulse time condition for 2-bit/cell operation. The length effect of the spacer-type storage node is also characterized. Device which has the charge storage length of 40 nm shown better ${\Delta}V_{th}$ and $V_{th}$ margin for 2-bit/cell than those of the device with the length of 84 nm at a fixed recess depth of 100 nm. It was shown that peak of trapped charge density was observed near ${\sim}10nm$ below the source/drain junction.

Mobility management is important in mobile cellular networks. In this study, we considered an enhanced location-based registration (ELR) method. In the ELR method, even when a mobile phone enters a cell to find that the cell is already on its list (of visited cells) and then updates its main counter, it does not remove any cells from the list (memory space permitting), which gives better performance than the location-based registration (LR) method. However, the location registration cost of the ELR method is still high, and there is a lot of room for improvement with regards to this matter. We now propose an improved version of the ELR method; namely, the improved ELR (iELR). In the iELR method, when a mobile phone enters a cell to find that the cell counter value is less than the main counter value, or when a mobile phone enters a cell to register its location, it updates the main counter and the cell counter values as much as possible to reduce the future need for registrations. We show that our proposed iELR method provides better performance than the ELR method.

In this paper, a $320{\times}240$ pixel, 80 frame/s CMOS image sensor with a low power dual correlated double sampling (CDS) scheme is presented. A novel 8-bit hold-and-go counter in each column is proposed to obtain 10-bit resolution. Furthermore, dual CDS and a configurable counter scheme are also discussed to realize efficient power reduction. With these techniques, the digital counter consumes at least 43% and at most 61% less power compared with the column-counters type, and the frame rate is approximately 40% faster than the double memory type due to a partial pipeline structure without additional memories. The prototype sensor was fabricated in a Samsung $0.13{\mu}m$ 1P4M CMOS process and used a 4T APS with a pixel pitch of $2.25{\mu}m$. The measured column fixed pattern noise (FPN) is 0.10 LSB.

In this paper, we propose an adaptive partition cache replacement policy and evaluate the performance of our scheme using various monitoring ratios to help lifetime extension of non-volatile main memory systems without performance degradation. The proposal combines conventional LRU (Least Recently Used) replacement policy and Early Eviction Zone (E2Z), which considers a dirty bit as well as LRU bits to select a candidate block. In particular, this paper shows the performance of non-volatile memory using various monitoring ratios and determines optimized monitoring ratio and partition size of E2Z for reducing the number of writebacks using cache hit counter logic and hit predictor. In the experiment evaluation, we showed that 1:128 combination provided the best results of writebacks and runtime, in terms of performance and complexity trade-off relation, and our proposal yielded up to 42% reduction of writebacks, compared with others.

Ned Kelly, the bushranger, is a legendary figure of special significance to the Australians of today. The Aussies' affection for this "horse thief" derives from the fact that the latter has become a national ideal of the "battler" who does not give up in the face of hardships. Peter Carey's is considered to be one of the "national narratives" that not only heroize but also give voice to the Irish rebels who fought for "fair go" in the colonial Australia. However, this paper asserts that there are more to the novel than merely paying a tribute to the national icon, especially when the novel is examined in the context of the "republic controversy." In 1999, the preceding year of the novel's publication, Australia had a national referendum on the issue of whether or not to secede from the Commonwealth. Due to the procedural manipulation of the royalist ruling party, republicanism was voted down. At the time when the majority of Australians were irate with the result of the referendum, Carey's retelling of the supposedly anti-British rebel failed to promote the lost cause. This paper investigates how the narrativization of the legendary figure, whose anti-British and anti-authoritarian attitude can be easily translated into the cause of republicanism, came to appeal to the general reading public. In so doing, this paper compares Carey's novel with the historical Kelly's two epistles: Jerilderie and Cameron Letter. This comparison brings to light what is left out in the process of Carey's narrativization of the rebel's life: the subversive militant voice of an Irish nationalist. The conclusion of this paper is that the possibility for Kelly's life to surface again in the 21st century as a sort of counter-memory is contained by Carey through its inclusion in a highly personalized domestic narrative.
