in order to overcome disadvantage of the conventional two bath dyeing method of polyester/cotton blends, it had prompted significant effort to the development of the one bath dyeing method which can accomplish sayings in time, energy and water usage. Also, when dyeing polyester/cotton blends by the one bath dyeing method, the high salt concentrations needed for the reactive dye can cause particles of disperse dye, used for the polyester component, to aggregate. A supplementary problem that can occasionally be happened is the change of hue that occurs on dyed polyester in an alkaline dyebath. To improve dyeing property of polyester/cotton blends, cotton component was pretreated with epichlolohydrine-trimethylamine hydrochloride in aqueous solution of sodium hydroxide to produce a cationized cotton that can be dyed under neutral conditions with reactive dye in a non-electrolytic or il little electrolytic dyebath. The one bath dyeing method of polyester/cationized cotton blends with disperse dye/reactive dye mixture resulted in a satisfactory dyeing property and color yield in comparison with ordinary two bath dyeing method.

To Save energy and cost one bath/one step dyeing and finishing on cotton/polyester blends is carried out with disperse dyes in the presence of crosslinking agent. Cotton 100 %, cotton/polyester 70/30, 50/50, 35/65, polyester 100 % fabrics were used. wrinkle recovery angle, tensile strength retention and tearing strength retention were determined in according to the dyebath composition, and also determined while the concentration of DMDHEU, molecular weight and concentration of PEG were varied. Colorfastness to abrasion, washing and light were tested. For cotton and cotton/polyester blends dyed in the presence of DMDHEU/PEG, wrinkle recovery was improved. Tensile strength retention and tearing strength retention were decreased, in compared with dyed fabrics without DMDHEU. Colorfastness to abrasion was good but colorfastness to washing and to light were poor for the fabrics dyed in the presence of DMDHEU/PEG.

Cotton differs from polyester in physical and chemical properties. When cotton/polyester blends are dyed, water-soluble dyes are generally used for cotton and disperse dye for polyester. Thus, two bath or one bath-two step dyeing process are usually accepted. These processes consume more energy and cost compared to a single step process. To save energy and cost, a single step dyeing and finishing is carried out with disperse dyes in the presence of a crossslinking agent. K/S values of the dyed fabrics were determined to examine the dyeing property of cotton, cotton/polyester, polyester fabrics dyed with disperse dyes in the presence of DMDHEU/PEG. The concentration of DMDHEU, molecular weight and concentration of PEG, curing time and curing temperature were varied.

Dyeing of polyester/cotton blends is usually carried out through the two-bath or one-bath two-step dyeing method using proper disperse dyes and reactive dyes for each fiber. However, the dyeing requires relatively long and complicated procedure as well as there are some problems such as lower dyeability. In the present study, new one-bath one-step dyeing process was investigated using disperse dyes having amino groups and hetero-bifunctional bridge compound(DBDCBS) including dichloro-s-triazinyl groups and ${\alpha},{\beta}$-dibromopropionylamido groups to improve the dyeability of cotton component in polyester/cotton blends. And the one-bath dyeing properties of polyester/cotton blends was evaluated by various dyeing conditions such as pH, temperature and dye concentration, The optimum dyeing condition was pH 4 and $110-120^{\circ}C$. Color fastness were relatively good because of the colvalent bond formation between DBDCBS-reacted cotton fiber and disperse dye.
In order to dye polyester/cotton blend fabric by one-bath dyeing process with single disperse dye, a novel hetero-bifunctional bridge compound(DBDCBS) was synthesized and utilized. The DBDCBS was designed to contain two different reactive groups such as ${\alpha},{\beta}$-dibromopropionylamido and dichloro-s-triazinyl groups. The ${\alpha},{\beta}$-dibromopropionylamido group shows considerable reactivity towards amines or amino groups at acidic condition and high temperature. In contrast, the dichloro-s-triazinyl group has reactivity towards hydroxyl groups at alkaline condition and room temperature. In order to examine whether as a bridge the compound could combine dyes containing amino groups with cellulosic substrates, disperse dyes containing amino group were tried to dye the cotton fibers pretreated with the DBDCBS compound. By the results, polyester/cotton blends were dyed by one-bath dyeing process with single disperse dye,1,4-diaminoanthraquinone.

Biodegradability of cotton/polyester blend fabric was investigated employing activated sluge test, soil burial test and enzyme hydrolysis. Surface changes of the degraded sample were observed through a microscopy. Changes in X-ray diffraction patterns and crystallinity were examined using X-ray diffractometer. Experimental results revealed that biodegradability of cotton/polyester blend fabric was proportional to the blending ratio of cotton, not showing any synergy effect. Polyester 100% hardly degraded in this study. Through the comparison of the experimental method it was shown that the biodegradabilities determined from activated sludge test and enzymatic hydrolysis except soil burial test were linearly related to the blending ratio of cotton in the blent fabrics. It is probably because the biodegradability determined from the retention of tensile strength of fabrics buried in soil was affected by the stress distribution of polyesters throughout the fabric. From the microscopic observations it was revealed that fungi were grown on the fabric surface and the colors turned yellow, brown and black. X-ray diffraction patterns showed that the heights of crystalline peak coming from cotton part in blend fabrics decreased whereas those coming from polyester part increased comperatively as time passed by. Crystallinities of cotton 100% fabric increased slightly at the begining and then decreased continuously.

This paper discusses the inter fiber cohesion in man made and blended yarns. The fiber parameters such as fiber length and fineness influence the cohesion. Studies have been focused on polyester and viscose spun yarns. Though polyester and viscose yarns show similar trend in cohesion, viscose yarns exhibit better cohesion clue to their serrated cross section. Studies on the effect of blend proportion of polyester cotton and polyester viscose yarns reveal that increase of polyester and viscose in the respective blends improve the inter fiber cohesion.
To study the printing behaviors of Polyester and cotton(P/C) fabrics printed with disperse and reactive dyes, the effects of alkalis on the fixation of reactive dyes and the alkali-stability of disperse dyes in various methods of fixation were examined. The anthraquinone disperse dyes which have diamino derivatives as substituents without hydroxy group, such as C.I. Disperse Violet 1(D.V.1), C.I. Disperse Violet 28(D.V.28) and C.I.Disperse Blue 60(D.B.60) showed good results of fixation without regard to the concentration of NaHCO$_3$. In case of high temperature steaming(HTS) and unsaturated steaming(US)/HTS, D.V. 1 was alkali-stable and effective for P/C printing. A good result was obtained with D.V.1 and C.I.Reactive Orange 13(R.O.13) paste of 4% $K_{2}CO_{3}$. It was found that the unfixed D.V.28 bearing chloro group can hinder the fixation of monochlorotriaxinyl reactive dyes, and D.B.60 made little stain on 100% cotton. In thermosol(Tm), the dye uptake of D.V.1 was not decreased so much, but those of D.V.28 and D.B.60 were greatly decreased.
The main purpose of this research was to provide an example of a scientific and systematic approach to designing nurses' uniforms. Uniforms for the staff nurses and head nurses at Korea University Medical Centers were designed through the following four steps: research and analyses, design direction establishment, design presentation, and final decision. For the research and analyses, a focused group interview with 14 head nurses were conducted before the actual questionnaires were formed and distributed to 200 nurses at the medical centers. The data collected from 182 among 200 subjects were able to be used for the statistical analyses. As a result, the majority of nurses were not satisfied with the present nurse uniforms. They preferred pants to skirts, and straight pants to tapered pants. Blouses or jackets that slightly cover hips with sleeves reaching above the wrists were also preferred. Many respondents wanted uniforms that were practical and easy to manage. The ideal image of nursing uniforms were feminine, lively, active, light, cool, simple, and modern. According to the research and analyses result, design directions were established and uniform designs were presented to head nurses. Uniforms were designed based on symbols of Korea University and Korea University Medical Centers. Colors including white, pink, and grey were selected to represent the ideal image of nursing uniforms designated by the respondents. Fabrics including polyester(95%) and spandex(5%) blends, polyester(48%), rayon(48%), and spandex(4%) blends, and cotton(100%) were used for making garment samples. Final designs were decided by selecting and modifying the designs presented to the head nurses.
