A Value-oriented System Integration Project Sizing and Cost Estimation Model (가치중심의 SI (System Integration) 사업 규모 및 비용산정 모형 구축 연구)

  • The purpose of this study is to construct a value-oriented sizing and cost estimation model for system integration projects. In particular, this study is to build a system architecture design and integration cost model, and a network design and implementation cost model. Unlike software development projects, system integration projects include knowledge-intensive professional services on system architecture and network design areas. Because of these work's high invisibility, the cost of these services is hard to estimate and measure. Therefore, we need to develop value-oriented cost models. This study presents 6 value-oriented cost models, and tests statistical significance of these models with real system integration project data. The results show that cost factors on these models are valid, and models are statistically significant. Future work is needed to integrate various cost models and apply the whole model to field projects to increase model's prediction accuracy.

  • Current software cost estimation models, such as the 1951 COCOMO, its 1987 Ada COCOMO update, is composed of nonlinear models, such as product attributes, computer attributes, personnel attributes, project attributes, effort-multiplier cost drivers, and have been experiencing increasing difficulties in estimating the costs of software developed to new lift cycle processes and capabilities. The COCOMO II is developed fur new forms against the current software cost estimation models. This paper provides a case-based analysis result of the cost driver in the software cost models, such as COCOMO and COCOMO 2.0 by fuzzy and neural network.

  • Application systems outsourcing is an important part of IT outsourcing services. Application systems outsourcing costs is determined by service levels of outsourcers. Recent researches show there is a strong need to build industry-specific cost estimation models. In this study, an industry-specific application systems operation cost estimation model is suggested. We reviewed operation cost models of previous researches, and proposed a cost estimation model for security industry. Industry-specific service factors are defined and service levels are determined by Interviews with experts. The proposed model is tested and adjusted with empirical data. The new model shows more accurate prediction than previous general models. Future research will be needed to develop outsourcing cost estimation models for other industries and to refine cost models developed in this study.

  • A study is carried out on investigation on pattern costs, identification of geometric parameters for the cost, and development of cost estimation models for casting patterns. Pattern costs for machine tool structures are collected and analyzed to identify the important geometric parameters that affect the costs. The parameters are used for the development of the costing models. It is found that the geometric parameters can be easily obtained from a CAD system and then the costing models estimate a pattern cost in a minimum time. The models are verified with the structures whose pattern cost was used for this study. It is expected that this costing models can evaluate the cost of casting structures of machine tools in search of a near-optimal design based on manufacturing cost and, for example, weight at the design stage.

  • In this study, industry-specific application systems operation cost estmation models are suggested. We reviewed operation cost models of previous researches, and developed a strong need for industry-specific operation outsourcing cost models. Security industry operation cost model and medical care industry outsourcing cost model are proposed, and tested with empirical data. We showed the validity of industry-specific application systems outsourcing cost models. Future research will be needed to develop outsourcing cost models for other industries and to refine cost models developed in this study.

  • Reorganization is essential part of data base maintenanc work and the reasonable reorganization points can be determined from the trade-off between reorganization cost and performance degradation. There has been many reorganization models so far, but none of these models have assumed nonlinear search cost function. This paper presents the existensions of two existing linear reorganization models for the case where the search cost function is quadratic. The higher performance of these extended models was shown in quadratic search cost function case.

  • The problems in software cost management are well known. Cost estimates are too low. Software development projects frequently have cost overruns, which are due to poor estimates. A fair amount of work have been done toward developing cost estimation models. These models vary in their outputs (e. g., total cost, manning schedule) and in the factors used to calculate their estimates. They also vary with regard to the type of formula, parameters, use of previous data, and staffing considerations. This paper will distinguish them by the type of formula they use to calculate total effort and staffing level, and will discuss enough models to demonstrate the characteristics of each model category.

  • It is time-consuming and difficulty to solve the time-cost trade-off problems, as there are trade-offs between time and cost to complete the activities in construction projects and this problems do not have unique solutions. Typically, heuristic methods, mathematical models and GA models has been used to solve this problems. As heuristic methods and mathematical models are have weakness in solving the time-cost trade-off problems, GA based model has been studied widely in recent. This paper suggests the time-cost trade-off optimization algorithm using particle swarm optimization. The traditional particle swarm optimization model is modified to generate optimal tradeoffs among construction time and cost efficiently. An application example is analyzed to illustrate the use of the suggested algorithm and demonstrate its capabilities in generating optimal tradeoffs among construction time and cost. Future applications of the model are suggested in the conclusion.

  • In order to reduce the production cost and improve the quality of dairy feed, several dairy feed mill models suitable for Korean farm size were developed. 6 TMR models were developed for the 1000, 600, 200 head of dairy cattle, and evaluated for capital investments and production costs to suggest the best model. Followings are summary of this study : 1. TMR terminal models were designed that dairy production capacity of TMR1000 models are 40 ton/day, TMR600 model is 20 ton/day and TMR200 models are 10 ton/day. Also, they can be extended their capacity up to twice. 2. Capital investment of TMR terminal models is 145 million won for TMR200-1,205 million won for TMR600 and 609 million won for TMR1000-3 model. 3. The bigger TMR terminal model has the more advantage in production cost. The best model for 1000 head of dairy cattle farm was TMR1000-3 with 10,849 won/ton of production cost, TMR600 for 600 head of dairy cattle farm with 13,829 won/ton, TMR200-1 for 200 head of dairy cattle farm with 16,943 won/ton of production cost, so feed production cost for the 200 head farm was 50% higher than 1,000 head size farm.

  • Software cost estimation is an important both for buyers and sellers(developers). We reviewed domestic and foreign researches and practices on software cost estimation with function point method comprehensively, In this paper, we derived four promising alternative function point models. They are an IFPUG(International Function Point User Group)-based model(Model I), a shorthand model for client/sever software systems(Model II), a data-oricnted model for relatively large software projects(Model III), and a general- purpose function point model for non business application softwares as well as business applications(Model IV). Empirical data shows that Model I, II, and IV are very useful function point models. In particular, model II and IV look very useful models since they are concise and accurate. These models can be incorporated in a new improved guideline for software cost estimation. General opinion survey shows that Model I, II and IV are preferable. There are no significant differences in preference between buyers and sellers. The survey also shows that users think function point method is better than step(line of code)-oriented cost estimation methods in many ways including objectivity and estimation accuracy.
