  • This paper concerns the crashworthiness of the widely used vehicle structure, the spot welded hat and double hat shaped section members, which are excellent on the point of the energy absorbing capacity and low production cost. The target of this paper is to analyze the energy absorption capacity of the structure against the front-end collision, and to obtain useful information for designing stage. Changing the spot weld pitches on the flanges, the hat and double hat shaped section members were tested on the axial collapse loads in impact velocities of 4.72m/sec, 6.54m/sec, 7.19m/sec and 7.27m/sec. To efficiently review the collapse characteristics of these sections, the simulation have been carried out using explicit FEM package, LS-DYNA3D. The solutions are compared with results from the impact collapse experiments.

  • Environmental monitoring system has been adopted and supplemented as inspection measures for the quantitative and qualitative changes of environmental impact assessment (EIA). Meanwhile it has been continuously pointed out that there is insufficient connection between environmental monitoring system and EIA. Often the agreed environmental impact assessment has not been fulfilled due to the argument of the cost, timing and situations of construction sites. Thus the purpose of this study is in search of the rationalized environmental monitoring system in order to harmonize the development and environmental conservation through the improvement of unreasonable aspects of the current EIA execution process. As to comply with the purpose, this research was carried out with three different but complimentary sources: environmental laws and regulations, foreign case studies of Japan, U.S.A. and Canada, and interviews with 73 experts. Finally, improved environmental monitoring system has been introduced reflecting the present process of EIA.

  • A switch in congestion management nile in an electricity market may have positive or negative impact on the surplus of a market participant. As a number of wholesale electricity markets around the world either have already adopted or plan to implement Locational Marginal Pricing (LMP) for energy and congestion management, it is necessary to study the economic impact of a change in congestion management in the Korean electricity market. However, the impact of congestion management on consumer costs and generator surplus has not been studied for the electricity market in Korea. This paper examines how a change in congestion management affects consumer costs and generator surplus in the Korean electricity market.

  • This study aims to determine the relation between the real sector and the financial sector in underdeveloped areas in Nusa Tenggara, Indonesia. To facilitate understanding of these linkages, researchers use the logic of credit channel mechanism of monetary policy, financial intermediation, as well as supply leading and demand following theories. The research variables include economic growth, inflation, liquidity, and NPL at the provincial level, with a data sample from 2008 to 2019. This research uses VAR/VECM as the analysis tools. The findings of the long-term analysis in East Nusa Tenggara show there is a phenomenon of cost-push inflation as well as the negative relation between inflation and economic growth. The impact of liquidity on inflation is positive, while the impact of economic growth on inflation is negative. Meanwhile, in West Nusa Tenggara, the impact of economic growth on inflation is positive. On the other hand, the impact of liquidity and NPL on inflation and economic growth is negative. In conclusion, generally, the economy in West Nusa Tenggara is better than the East Nusa Tenggara. The key to improving the economy of Nusa Tenggara is by improving its liquidity. This can be done by increasing the volume of public savings to increase bank credit capacity.

  • This study employs data from CRSP/Compustat files for the period from 2003 to 2017 and applies a panel data analysis. The results of this study show a positive relationship between trade credit and the firm's market value, however, the results show a negative relationship if we test the impact of financial credit on the firm's market value. The results have direct policy implications for investors, the firm's management, and financial strategy. An implication of our study is that using trade credit as a source of financing may give a positive signal of the firm's creditworthiness and increase the firm's market value. Also, the results of our study indicate that the benefits of using trade credit may outperform the cost of using it as a source of finance. Prior studies examine the impact of financial leverage on the firm's value, however, this study contributes to the existing studies that examine the factors that affect the firm's market value by examining the impact of using trade credit finance on the firm's market value. The main limitation of this study is that the results are based on listed firms, using data from unlisted firms is not available.

  • The expansion of a country's ecological footprint generates resources for economic development. China's import bill and carbon footprint can be reduced by investing in green transportation and energy technologies. A sustainable environment depends on the cessation of climate change; the current study investigates nuclear energy efficiency, economic complexity, air transportation, and industrial improvement for reducing environmental footprint. Using data spanning the years 1983-2016, the dynamic autoregressive distributed lag simulation method has demonstrated the short- and long-term variability in the impact of regressors on the ecological footprint. The study findings revealed that economic complexity in China had been found to have a statistically significant impact on the country's ecological footprint. Moreover, the industrial improvement process is helpful for the ecological footprint in China. In the short term, air travel has a negative impact on the ecological footprint, but this effect diminishes over time. Additionally, energy innovation is negative and substantial both in the short and long run, thus demonstrating its positive role in reducing the ecological footprint. Policy implications can be extracted from a wide range of issues, including economic complexity, industrial improvement, air transportation, energy innovation, and ecological impact to achieve sustainable goals.

  • Purpose: The main purpose of this study is to find out the impact of ownership structure on firm performance in the pharmaceutical and chemical industry of Bangladesh. Research design, data and methodology: The study has been conducted on 28 listed pharmaceutical and chemical companies from 2012 to 2020. Return on Assets (ROA) and Tobin's Q are selected as indicators of internal and market performance of the firms respectively whereas institutional ownership, directors' ownership and foreign ownership are selected as proxies of ownership structure. Panel analysis using random effects, lag method and time dummy method is used to analyse the relationship. Results: The study has found the existence of highly concentrated directors' ownership, a low percentage of institutional ownership and a very insignificant proportion of foreign ownership in the industry. The regression results show that directors' ownership has a positive and significant impact on firm performance, supporting the concept of agency theory. The study has also found a positive and significant impact of foreign ownership on firm performance. Unfortunately, the impact of institutional ownership is found to be insignificant. Conclusions: Directors' ownership and foreign ownership decreases agency cost that ultimately increases firm performance. However, the role of institutional investors is not significant enough to improve firm performance. It is suggested that institutional investors should be more active and involved in monitoring the activities of the organisations to improve performance.

  • The debt maturity structure has a significant impact on a company's financial situation. Any debt maturity structure decisions substantially impact investment decisions due to changes in capital cost and dividend decisions due to cash flow consequences. This study used the system generalized method of moment (Sys-GMM) to investigate the debt maturity structure of real estate companies listed on the Ho Chi Minh Stock Exchange (HOSE) in the duration from 2008 to 20019. It found that the firm size, liquidity, and tangible assets affected the decision on debt maturity structure. The tangible asset had the most significant impact on the possibility for companies to access long-term loans. This finding revealed that the majority of the real estate companies listed on HOSE borrowed money from banks. Such decisions are most likely affected by the collateral. Another finding of the study is that financial institutions had a major impact on loan maturity structure, whereas the effects of the financial market were negligible. Besides, the real estate companies listed on HOSE seemed not to pay attention to changes in inflation, economic growth, and institutional qualities when deciding on the debt maturity structure.

  • The purpose of the study is to empirically investigate how the higher allowance ratio for bank loans affects the cost of equity using Korean banks from 2002- 2015. First of all, we analyzed the impact of the higher allowance ratio on the cost of equity for Korean banks. Secondly, from the perspective of governance structure, we analyzed the existence of different impacts whether banks were affiliated with financial holding companies. The results showed an increasing impact of higher allowance ratio on the cost of equity for Korean banks. Also, we found these impacts differ whether the banks are affiliated with financial holding companies. The results indicate that the burden of higher allowance ratios for bank loans may provide negative impacts on capital markets. The higher the allowance ratio, which means the greater risk for banks, may help to increase the cost of equity concerning Korean banks.
