  • Power distribution management system is essential for the efficient management and operation of power distribution networks. The power distribution system is a system that manages the distribution network based on IT, and has been evolving along with the development of the power industry. The current power distribution system is designed to operate at a relatively low network transmission speed based on the independent operation of the main equipment. However, due to distributed resources such as photovoltaic or energy storage devices, which are rapidly increasing in popularity in recent years, the operation of future distribution environments is becoming more complex, and various information needs to be collected in real time. In this study, the requirements of the next-generation power distribution system were derived to overcome the limitations of the existing power distribution system, and based on this, the communication network system and performance requirements for the distribution system were defined. In order to verify the performance of the designed system, a software-based terminal device simulator was developed because it takes excessive time and cost to introduce a large-scale system such as a power distribution system. Using the simulator, a test environment similar to the actual operation was established, and the number of terminal devices was increased up to 1,000. The proposed system was shown to satisfy the requirements to support the functions of the next-generation power distribution system, recording less than 10 % of the communication network bandwidth.

  • With the advent of the fourth industrial revolution, the interest in the internet of things (IoT) in manufacturing is growing, even at foundries. There are several types of process data that can be automatically collected at a foundry, but considerable amounts of process data are still managed based on handwriting for reasons such as the limited functions of outdated production facilities and process design based on operator know-how. In particular, despite recognizing the importance of converting process data into big data, many companies have difficulty adopting these steps willingly due to the burden of system construction costs. In this study, the field applicability of IoT-based devices was examined by manufacturing devices and applying them directly to the site of a centrifugal foundry. For the centrifugal casting process, the temperature and humidity of the working site, the molten metal temperature, and mold rotation speed were selected as process parameters to be collected. The sensors were selected in consideration of the detailed product specifications and cost required for each process parameter, and the circuit was configured using a NodeMCU board capable of wireless communication for IoT-based devices. After designing the circuit, PCB boards were prepared for each parameter, and each device was installed on site considering the working environment. After the on-site installation process, it was confirmed that the level of satisfaction with the safety of the workers and the efficiency of process management increased. Also, it is expected that it will be possible to link process data and quality data in the future, if process parameters are continuously collected. The IoT-based device designed in this study has adequate reliability at a low cast, meaning that the application of this technique can be considered as a cornerstone of data collecting at foundries.

  • Type I Interferons (IFNα) are known for their role as biological anticancer agents owing to their cell-apoptosis inducing properties. Development of an appropriate, cost-effective host expression system is crucial for meeting the increasing demand for proteins. Therefore, this study aims to develop codon-optimized IFNα-2b in L. lactis NZ3900. These cells express extracellular protein using the NICE system and Usp45 signal peptide. To validate the mature form of the expressed protein, the recombinant IFNα-2b was screened in a human colorectal cancer cell line using the cytotoxicity assay. The IFNα-2b was successfully cloned into the pNZ8148 vector, thereby generating recombinant L. lactis pNZ8148-SPUsp45-IFNα-2b. The computational analysis of codon-optimized IFNα-2b revealed no mutation and amino acid changes; additionally, the codon-optimized IFNα-2b showed 100% similarity with native human IFNα-2b, in the BLAST analysis. The partial size exclusion chromatography (SEC) of extracellular protein yielded a 19 kDa protein, which was further confirmed by its positive binding to anti-IFNα-2b in the western blot analysis. The crude protein and SEC-purified partial fraction showed IC50 values of 33.22 ㎍/ml and 127.2 ㎍/ml, respectively, which indicated better activity than the metabolites of L. lactis NZ3900 (231.8 ㎍/ml). These values were also comparable with those of the regular anticancer drug tamoxifen (105.5 ㎍/ml). These results demonstrated L. lactis as a promising host system that functions by utilizing the pNZ8148 NICE system. Meanwhile, codon-optimized usage of the inserted gene increased the optimal protein expression levels, which could be beneficial for its large-scale production. Taken together, the recombinant L. lactis IFNα-2b is a potential alternative treatment for colorectal cancer. Furthermore, its activity was analyzed in the WiDr cell line, to assess its colorectal anticancer activities in vivo.

  • Generally, the plate load test and the field density test are conducted for compaction quality control in earthwork, and then additional analysis. Recently developed that the DCPT (Dynamic Cone Penetration Test) equipment for smart compaction quality control its the system are able to get location and real-time information about worker history management. The IoT-based the DCPT system improved the time-cost in the field compared traditional test, and the functions recording and storage of the DPI (Dynamic Cone Penetration Index) were automated. This paper describes using these DCPT equipment on in-situ and compared to the standards of the DCPT, and the compaction trend had be confirmed with DPI as the field test data. As a result, the DPI of the final compaction decreased by 1.4 times compared to the initial compaction, confirming the increase in the compaction strength of the subgrade compaction layer 10 to 14 cm deep from the surface. A trend of increasing compaction strength was observed. This showed a tendency to increase the compaction strength of the target DPI proposed by MnDOT and the results of the existing plate load test, but there was a difference in the increase rate. Therefore, additional studies are needed on domestic compaction materials and laboratory conditions for target DPI and correlation studies with the plate load tests. If this is reflected, it is suggested that DCPT will be widely used as smart construction equipment in earthworks.

  • Due to the absence of rehabilitation sports service systems linked to post-discharge medical measures and rehabilitation, disabled people cannot participate in physical activities suitable for individual disability types, characteristics, and physical functions. In December 2017, the Act on the Rights of Health for the Disabled) was implemented to provide an institutional basis for disable people to address their needs for rehabilitation sports. Based on related studies conducted in Korea, this study aims to collect the results of a demand survey conducted on experts who are rehabilitation sports service providers and analyze the demand for rehabilitation sports services from a policy perspective. This study extracts the needs of experts presented in the literature and presents the extracted content as an inductive content analysis. The criteria for selecting the literature were selected based on studies related to "adaptive physical activity and exercise," "sports for all for the disabled," and "rehabilitation sports" conducted in the Republic of Korea, including the results of a demand survey on experts. The study results were categorized into seven categories (perception of sports activities, programs, leaders, facilities, accessibility, cost/support/financial resources, and others) of field experts who are rehabilitation sports service providers. In a future study, it will be necessary for people with disability, who are consumers who will provide actual services, to identify problems at the disabled sports site and come up with measures to improve them.

  • Carotenoids are red, orange, and yellow fat-soluble pigments that exist in nature, and are known as physiologically active substances with various functions, such as provitamin A, antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, and anticancer. Because of their physiological activity and color availability, carotenoids are widely used in the food, cosmetics, and aquaculture industries. Currently, most carotenoids used industrially use chemical synthesis because of their low production cost, but natural carotenoids are in the spotlight because of their safety and physiologically active effects. However, the production of carotenoids in plants and animals is limited for economic reasons. Carotenoids produced by bacteria have a good advantage in replacing carotenoids produced by chemical synthesis. Since carotenoids produced from bacteria have limited industrial applications due to low productivity, studies are continuously being conducted to increase the production of carotenoids by bacteria. Studies conducted to increase carotenoid production from bacteria include the activity of enzymes in the bacterial carotenoid biosynthesis pathway, the development of mutant strains using physical and chemical mutagens, increasing carotenoid productivity in strain construction through genetic engineering, carotenoid accumulation through stress induction, fermentation medium composition, culture conditions, co-culture with other strains, etc. The aim of this article was to review studies conducted to increase the productivity of carotenoids from bacteria.

  • The technology that recognizes a soldier's motion and movement status has recently attracted large attention as a combination of wearable technology and artificial intelligence, which is expected to upend the paradigm of troop management. The accuracy of state determination should be maintained at a high-end level to make sure of the expected vital functions both in a training situation; an evaluation and solution provision for each individual's motion, and in a combat situation; overall enhancement in managing troops. However, when input data is given as a timer series or sequence, existing feedforward networks would show overt limitations in maximizing classification performance. Since human behavior data (3-axis accelerations and 3-axis angular velocities) handled for military motion recognition requires the process of analyzing its time-dependent characteristics, this study proposes a high-performance data-driven classifier which utilizes the long-short term memory to identify the order dependence of acquired data, learning to classify eight representative military operations (Sitting, Standing, Walking, Running, Ascending, Descending, Low Crawl, and High Crawl). Since the accuracy is highly dependent on a network's learning conditions and variables, manual adjustment may neither be cost-effective nor guarantee optimal results during learning. Therefore, in this study, we optimized hyperparameters using Bayesian optimization for maximized generalization performance. As a result, the final architecture could reduce the error rate by 62.56% compared to the existing network with a similar number of learnable parameters, with the final accuracy of 98.39% for various military operations.

  • Objectives : This study aims to provide information regarding the status and quality of mobile applications (MAs) using self-acupressure by performing a systematic review. Methods : We conducted comprehensive searching on five international databases and two app markets from inception to July 31, 2022 to identify MAs using self-acupressure. We analyzed the characteristics of each MA regarding the name of the MA, registered app markets, target symptoms, developers, the year and country of development, cost, target age, media function, and expertise. We assessed the quality of each MA using Mobile Application Rating Scale (MARS). Results : We identified a total of 30 MAs using self-acupressure (25 MAs from the app market and 6 MAs from clinical studies, with 1 MA in common). 17 out of 24 MAs from the app market provided self-acupressure regimens for various symptoms and the others provided regimens for specific symptoms such as memory, anxiety, depression, asthma, allergy, low back pain, and headache. 14 developers were reported. 23 MAs were developed after 2013. The largest number of MAs were developed in the United States. The target age group of 12 MAs was above the age of 3, and that of 11 MAs was above the age of 12. 14 MAs provided multimedia functions such as videos. 13 MAs provided information of expertise. From clinical studies, only 3 out of 6 MAs were accessible through the app market. 4 MAs were developed by the researchers of the study. In terms of MARS, the score of MAs from the app market was higher than that of MAs from clinical studies in both objective and subjective evaluation areas. Conclusions : This study summarizes the characteristics of MAs using self-acupressure. More MAs using self-acupressure should be developed and further clinical research for MA on each symptom and disease is warranted for the diversification of MA fields using self-acupressure.

  • Auto-scaling is one of the most important functions for cloud computing technology. Even if the number of users or service requests is explosively increased or decreased, system resources and service instances can be appropriately expanded or reduced to provide services suitable for the situation and it can improves stability and cost-effectiveness. However, since the policy is performed based on a single metric data at the time of monitoring a specific system resource, there is a problem that the service is already affected or the service instance that is actually needed cannot be managed in detail. To solve this problem, in this paper, we propose a method to predict system resource and service response time using a multivariate time series analysis model and establish an auto-scaling policy based on this. To verify this, implement it as a custom scheduler in the Kubernetes environment and compare it with the Kubernetes default auto-scaling method through experiments. The proposed method utilizes predictive data based on the impact between system resources and response time to preemptively execute auto-scaling for expected situations, thereby securing system stability and providing as much as necessary within the scope of not degrading service quality. It shows results that allow you to manage instances in detail.

  • Digital twin technology is used in various fields as a method of creating a virtual world to minimize the cost of solving problems in the real world, and is also actively used in the maritime field, such as large-scale systems such as ships and offshore plants. In this paper, we tried to build a digital twin of coastal waters using a ship-handling simulator. The digital twin of the coastal waters developed in this way can be used to safely manage Korea's coastal waters, where maritime traffic is complicated, by providing a actual maritime traffic data. It can be usefully used to develop and advance technologies related to maritime autonomous surface ships and intelligent maritime traffic information services in coastal waters. In addition, it can be used as a 3D-based monitoring equipment for areas where physical monitoring is difficult but real-time maritime traffic monitoring is necessary, and can provide functions to safely manage maritime traffic situations such as aerial views of ports/control areas, bridge views/blind sector views of ships in operation.
