New Trends of Non-Traditional Machining Technology (특수가공기술의 최신동향)

  • Workpiece materials may be relatively easy to machine by traditional methods but workpiece geometry also may be a constraint. Many shapes that are geometrically difficult to handle conventionally may be candidates for nontraditional processes. Nontraditional processes provide new opportunities for product design innovation and productivity improvements. Difficult-to-machine materials of geometric shapes difficult o produce with traditional equipment and tooling, may often be easily and cost effectively machined using nontraditional processes. Notraditional machining processes are relative newcomers o the manufacturing arena. Nontraditional chemical solutions, or even electrolytic current as the working medium rather than a conventional cutting tool or abrasive to remove or shape materials.

  • Conventional methods to solve the nonlinear programming problem range from augmented Lagrangian methods to sequential quadratic programming (SQP) methods. NPSOL, which is a SQP code, has been widely used to solve various optimization problems but is still subject to many numerical problems such as convergence to local optima, difficulties in initialization and in handling non-smooth cost functions. Recently, many evolutionary methods have been developed for constrained optimization.   • A stochastic optimal LQR control problem under some integral quadratic (IQ) constraints is studied, with cross terms in both the cost and the constraint functionals, allowing all the control weighting matrices being indefinite. Sufficient conditions for the well-posedness of this problem are given. When these conditions are satisfied, the optimal control is explicitly derived via dual theory.

  • The re-enty guidance design involves trajectory optimization, generation of a reference drag acceleration profile with the satisfaction of trajectory constraints. This reference drag acceleration profile can be considered as the reference trajectory. This paper proposes the atmospheric re-entry system which is composed of longitudinal, later and range control. This paper shows the a performance of a re-entry guidance and control system using feedback linearization control and predictive control.

  • This paper studies constrained optimization of an M/G/1 queue with a server that can be switched on and off. One criterion is an average number of customers in the system and another criterion is an average operating cost per unit time, where operating costs consist of switching and running costs. With the help of queueing theory, we solve the problems of optimization of one of these criteria under a constraint for another one.

  • We deduce the necessary conditions for the optimality of endpoint constrained optimal control problem. These conditions comprise the adjoint equation, the maximum principle and the transversality condition. We assume that the cost function is merely differentiable. Therefore the technique under Lipschitz continuity hypothesis is not directly applicable. We introduce Fermat's rule and value function technique to obtain the results.

  • The effectiveness of an actual combat tank system is analyzed. A measure of effectiveness which includes performance and reliability called pseudo-reliability is introduced. A model is introduced to optimize the design of the system in which the system pseudo-reliability is maximized subject to cost constraint. This model is a nonlinear programming problem and is solved by the sequential unconstrained minimization technique (SUMT). A numerical exampl with actual data from the test evaluation of five combat tanks is used to illustrate the model.

  • The existing network can be expanded with addition of new nodes and multiple choices of link type for each nossible link.   • We consider a multiechelon repairable-item inventory system where several bases are supported by a central depot and the external repair facilities. Unlike METRIC- based models, there are only a finite number of repair channels at each base, central depot and the external repair facilities. It is desired to find repair capacities and spares level which together guarantee a specified service level at minimum cost. Closed queueing network theory is used to model the stochastic process. The purpose of this paper is to derive the steady-state distributions of this system.
