Electron Microscopic Study of Osseointegration between Bone and Smooth Machined Implants (선반가공 임플란트와 골조직의 유착에 관한 전자현미경적 연구)

  • This paper reports that the ultrastructural nature of the interface process between the implants and surrounding bone has been studied after in vivo 1, 4, 8, 12 weeks of implantation of smooth machined implants into rabbit tibias. There was no indication of the fibrous connective tissue formation around the implant that imply intolerance of the bone tissue towards the implant after 1 week of implantation. The regions showing direct bone tissue bonding to the smooth machined implant contained osteoblast activating across the interface in the direction after 4 weeks of implantation. The reaction of a smooth machined implant caused in the first instance formation of an amorphous woven bone, which transformed into a mineralized bone containing collagen fibers. After 8 weeks of implantation, the activities of osteoblast initiated osseointegration forming bone matrix at the interface. During this period, the osteoblast surrounded with a matrix consisting of collagen bundles running in various directions. In the interface area between newly formed bone tissue and implants which has been inserted in rabbit tibias for 12 weeks, the implant and mineralized bone was separated by an amorphous electron dense material layer about $1{\sim}1.5{\mu}m$ in thickness.

Study on the Tensile Strength of Bleached Hair (탈색모발의 인장강도에 관한 연구)

  • Human hair experience tensile forces during combing, bleaching and permanent dyeing processes. We have used rheometer to characterize bleached hair tensile response. Also, we investigated to morphological changes after tensile test of virgin hair and bleached hair using scanning electron microscopy. In tensile test, the tensile strength of virgin hair was $14.66g/cm^2$. They were measured as $12.95g/cm^2$, $12.61g/cm^2$ and $11.43g/cm^2$ for after the first, the second and the third trials of bleaching were done, respectively. Virgin hair had a higher tensile force than bleached hair. Tensile strength got lowered as more bleaching trials were done. In the observation of scanning electron microscopy, the fracture and lift-off of the cuticle outer layer were shown in virgin hair and bleached hair. The bleached hair were more lifted off at the outer cuticle layer than virgin hair. Consequently, chemical damage of bleaching agent caused weakening of the outer cuticle in the hair.

Electron Microscopic Studies on the Morphological Differences of Ethnic Hair (인종 모발의 형태학적 차이에 관한 전자현미경적 연구)

  • We investigated the morphological differences of the ethnic hairs using scanning electron microscopy and transmission electron microscopy, sampled from African, Asian and Caucasian women. Transverse section of African hair had a highly elliptical type whereas those of Asian and Caucasian hairs had circular and elliptical types, respectively. The diameter of African hair showed wide variations from 90 to 115 ${\mu}m$. The diameter of Asian hair was 100 ${\mu}m$ and Caucasian hair had a lesser diameter of 80 ${\mu}m$ on average. African hair were much more damaged in cuticle layer compared with Asian or Caucasian hairs. In particular, endocuticle of cuticle cell had a lot of holes in it, which resulted that it tends to be easily broken. Phaeomelanin in the cortex of Caucasian hair had a concentrically helical structure in it.

  • This study was designed to provide basic data on preventive plans by affecting factors that have analysed on musculoskeletal diseases. The survey were conducted from July 1 to 30, 2004 among 600 hair dressers working in Seoul and Gwangju using self-administration questionnaire. The results of this study are summarized as follows: The pain experience rate of musculoskeletal diseases. in the last one year was $55.2\%,\;35.7\%$ of respondents answered they had pain on shoulders, $30.6\%$ had pain on legs and feet, $28.9\%$ had pain on waist, $26.8\%$ had hands, fingers and wrist, $22.3\%$ had pain on necks and $17.6\%$ had pain arms and elbows more than disease on necks, shoulders, arms and elbows, hands, fingers and wrists, waist, shoulders legs and feet. The prevalence rate of the last week was $40.3\%$. The prevalence rate in each body parts of the last week was $23.3\%$ on legs and feet, $21.2\%$ on shoulders, $20.8\%$ on waist, $14.9\%$ on hands, fingers and wrists, $14.4\%$ on necks, $9.3\%$ on arms. Based on the results above, working posture, job stress and physical burden from task are highly related with pain. In order to prevent musculoskeletal disease of hairdressers, working posture shall be improved and leisure opportunities to relieve stress, and health management education shall be provided.

Eating Behavior, Physical Activities and Obesity degree of Adolescents in a region of Jeonbuk province (전라북도 일부 지역의 청소년 식습관, 신체활동, 비만도)

  • Purpose: This study is to investigated the eating behavior, physical activities and obesity degree of the adolescents. Methods: The subjects of research were 1,092 third year students in middle school and high school randomly chosen of N city area and L gun area in Chonbuk province. The data was collected by an anonymous questionnaire. A survey tool developed in Ministry of Health and Welfare(2005) was used to investigate eating behavior, physical activities and obesity degree of subjects. The data was analyzed with the SPSSWIN 15.0 Programs. Results: 37.2% of adolescents only had positive eating behavior. 43.4% of adolescents did regular physical exercise, 10.8% did moderate physical exercise, and 43.3% did active physical exercise. 76.6% of adolescents did muscular strength exercise. So, the majority of adolescents were doing physical exercise. The percentage of adolescents who had normal weight range was 90.6%. The percentage of over weight range was 5.2%, which was higher than the percentage of under weight range, 4.2% Conclusion: This study is a descriptive research for investigating the eating bahavior, physical activities and obesity degree of adolescents. The results provided the baseline data for improving eating behavior, and improving physical activities and relieving obesity degree in adolescence. Therefore an effective national policy must study and develope a program to establish the positive eating behavior, and to promote the physical activities, and to prevent the adolescents' obesity.

Comparison of Heavy Metal Adsorption between Pseudomonas cepacia H42 and Saccharomyces cerevisiae SEY2102 (Pseudomonas cepacia H42와 Saccharomyces cerevisiae SEY2102의 중금속 흡착비교)

  • To examine the potency of biosorbent, the adsorption capacity of Pseudomonas cepacia H42 isolated from fresh water plant root was compared with Saccharomyces cerevisiae SEY2102 on bases of biomass, concentration of heavy metal, presence of light metals, immobilized cell, and ion exchange resin. P. cepacia H42 biomass of 0.05-0.5 g/L increased adsorption and above 1.0 g/L of yeast biomass was the most effective in adsorption. By applying the same amount of biomass, lead showed the highest adsorption on two strains and the adsorption strength was lead>copper>cadmium on both strains. The high heavy metal concentration induced the high adsorption capacity. P. cepacia H42 adsorption was in the order of copper>lead>cadmium and lead>copper>cadmium by yeast in 10 mg/L. Both strain showed same adsorption strength in the order of lead>copper>cadmium in 100 mg/L and 1000 mg/L. The adsorption capacity of both yeast and P. cepacia H42 was decreased in the presence of light metals and the order of cadmium>copper>lead. $Mg^{2+}$ induced the least adsorption while $Na^+$ induced highest adsorption. The adsorption capacity of immobilized yeast and P. cepacia H42 was detected between 200-400 mL in flow volume and decreased in the presence of light metals. Ion exchange containing light metals caused 30-50% adsorption reduction on both strains.

  • The present study attempts to examine the degree of recognition of the Personal Colors by the age of the woman, and to analyze the influence of the recognition on the factors for choosing specific colors for hair coloring and facial make-up and the consequent satisfaction. The data will be used as a basic material for research and marketing in the field of color consulting in the beauty industry. Collected data were statistically processed using the SPSS WIN program. Depending on the nature of the contents to be analyzed, either the percentage calculation or the Chi-square analysis or the ANOVA was carried out. The findings of the study are as follows; The overall recognition of the Personal Colors was generally low in terms of the knowledge, information and experiences. While the degree of recognition was the highest in teenagers, the necessity of diagnosing the Personal Colors was most deeply perceived by the women in their 30s. One of the factors for choosing a specific color for hair coloring was their favorite color for the teenagers, and the Personal Color or the advice of the professional for the women in their 30s. Meanwhile, the highest factor for those in their 20s was the colors in vogue. For the facial color make-up as well, this sensitivity to popular colors was also highest in the twenty-something women. The color choice in consideration of favorite colors and the Personal Colors was the most prominent in the teenagers. The tendency of utilizing the advice of sales people or the professionals was the highest in the women in their 30s. In the survey of satisfaction with the chosen colors for hair coloring and make-up, it was found that satisfaction was the highest in the cases of choosing the Personal Colors in all the age groups, while it was the lowest for the choice of popular colors.

  • The kidneys are exposed to toxicants and waste product and can be affected easily by these toxicants and by products of the metabolism. The consumption of adequate water is necessary to remove waste and to keep kidney healthy. Deficiency of liquid in the blood leads to various adverse effects on the kidney. The most common adverse deficiency of liquid in blood is deposition of solid matter in the kidney and subsequently formation of kidney stone. Nephrolithiasis (kidney stone) can be treated by drugs if it is small in size but if it blocks the route due to its big size then surgery is the only way to remove it. The recurrence rate of the problem is very high and it may reappear within 10 years. In Unani literature Hasāh wa Raml al-Kulya (nephrolithiasis) is described in detail. As per Unani literature stagnation of Ghalīz mādda (filthy and viscous matter) in the kidney is the main cause of the formation of kidney stone. Various single and compound formulations drugs are described for the management of kidney stone which are very effective as well as safe. Management is divided into two parts i.e. symptomatic treatment to relieve pain and to methods adopted to remove stone from the kidney. Musakkin-i-Waja'(analgesic) drugs are used for pain while Mufattit-i-Hasāh (lithotriptic) and Mudirr-i-Bawl (Diuretic) drugs are used to remove stone. Majoon Aqrab, Qurs Kaknaj and Dawa-e-Gurda etc. are compound drugs mentioned in literature for removal of kidney stone. Single drugs like Alu Balu, Tukhm Khayar, and Kharkhask etc. are also used for same purpose.

  • Hair cut is one of the best useful technical tool for hair styling. In this study using the rule of the layers of hair design, balanced for visual art, perceptual ability and form created by the principles of analysis and offer hair cuts and hair design of the representation of regions and even hair design as the basis of a student of Hair Beauty and all the people working in the field can create a variety of hair design puts the purpose to establish a basis. The result of this study can be outline as follows: First, the step line and the movement of the relationship between the law of the layers above and below the length of the same layer techniques, the same consists of a vertical cross-section of the overall round shape of the cut same layer is created and the appropriate volume and movement, the movement of low-layer round a little bit more feeling and expression is used when you want. High-layer used to want to move a lot of light and could see that. Second, the layer of the Law and over direction, lifting, section, the line control. weight control and analyzed by principle and the principle of the process of forming the written form was unknown. Third, hair design, the expansion of the expressive power of the law of the layers, and the section of the over direction depends on the presence of line control to express the length of the outline I had to, lifting the weight to adjust form controls, and the expression of Hair Design will be expanding the width. A hair designer, a layer style to create a zone he thought the law of the first layer formative area To further the reach will be a lot of research, leading up formative aspects of this research thesis do not have missing parts, or as a result of the Beauty of Hair Design and the width of a hair design education in the field can perform to help feed the reference materials that will be.

Effects of Vaniltic Acid on the Cell Viability and Melanogenesis in Cultured Human Skin Melanoma Cells Damaged by ROS-Induced Cytotoxicity

  • The purpose of this study was to examine the effect of vanillic acid on the cell viability and melanogenesis in melanocytes damaged by reactive oxygen species (ROS). The human skin melanoma cells (SK-MEL-3) were cultured with various concentrations of hydrogen peroxide $(H_2O_2)$. The cell viability for $H_2O_2$-induced cytotoxicity or vanillic acid against $H_2O_2$ was measured by XTT assay in these cultures. For the effect of vanillic acid on the melanogenesis, the tyrosinase inhibitory activity was measured by colorimetric assay at a wavelength of 490 nm, and melanin synthesis activity were assessed after cells were cultured in the media with or without various cencentrations of vanillic acid. In this study, $H_2O_2$ decreased cell viability dose- and time-dependent manners and $XTT_{50}$ was determined at a concentration of 80 ${\mu}M$, $H_2O_2$. Vanillic acid increased the cell viability dose dependently in human skin melanoma cells damaged by $H_2O_2$-induced cytotoxicity. In the tyrosinase inhibitory activity, vanillic acid supresssed tyrosinase activity in dosedependent manner, and also decreased significantly melanin synthesis activity compared with $H_2O_2$-treated group. From these results. It is suggested that $H_2O_2$-mediated cytotoxicity was highly by the toxic criteria of Borenfreund and Puerner and also, vanillic acid has the protective effect on ROS-induced cytotoxicity and melanogenesis in these cultures.
