Packaging bags and corrugated boxes prepared from newly developed antimicrobial packaging paper had greater ability to prolong freshness of packed fruits, and lower weight loss of fruits and microbial growth than non-treated bags and boxes. Addition of zeolite to paper greatly increased absorbance of aging hormone, $C_{2}H_{4}$, emitted from stored fruits, and contributed to decrease in putrefied fruits during storage. Water repellent agent such as alkyl ketone dimer played significant role in preventing functional paper from absorbing water from stored fruits, leading to preservation of fresh weight in stored fruits. Because rise in production cost of functional packaging paper could be offset by reduction of fruit and vegetable wastes, storing fruits and vegetables in functional paper containers was more economical than storing in non-treated containers.
Corrugated webs have been used for composite prestressed concrete box girder bridges. Innovative steel plate girders using corrugated webs have been proposed. It has been found that analytical and experimental researches conducted to determine the strength of trapezoidally corrugated webs can fail with respect to three different buckling modes: local, global, and interactive shear buckling. Shear buckling capacity equations based on classical and orthotropic plate buckling theories have been proposed, but these equations show some differences. In this paper, geometric parameters that influence interactive shear buckling behavior with interaction effects are identified via extensive bifurcation buckling analysis using the finite element meth.
This study was carried out to analyze the effects of packaging units and loading types in agricultural products(apple, pear, and sweet persimmon) palletization. In apple and pear packaging, an optimum loading type was pin wheel loading, and load effective corrugated box dimension was $330{\times}220{\times}170mmm(L{\times}W{\times}H)$ in 5 and 10kg packaging units, but in case of pear box was 10mm higher than apple box. However, in sweet persimmon packaging, block loading was available, and box dimension of $365{\times}275{\times}180mm(L{\times}W{\times}H)$ was the most effective to palletize.
The purpose of this study was to examine the effect of each storage temperature condition of 5, 10, 15 and 20℃ to maintain the freshness of mini paprika (Capsicum annuum cv. New Raon Red) in corrugated box. Changes in general appearance, fresh weight loss, firmness, SSC (solid sugar content), and Hue angle were investigated. Furthermore, storage at temperatures ranging from 5℃ to 15℃ for 14 days resulted in maintaining freshness for 35 days. Paprika stored at 20℃ showed significantly higher loss of fresh weight and firmness than that of other storage temperatures. Furthermore, paprika stored at 5℃ and 10℃ showed a lesser decrease in hue angle than that at 15℃ and 20℃. However, the SSC of mini paprika was not significantly affected by storage temperature. These results suggest that corrugated box packaging in combination with low storage temperatures (5~10℃) could be effective in prolonging the shelf life of mini paprika. Therefore, the results represented that the low temperature storage in combination with cardboard box treatment could be effective in prolonging the shelf life of fresh paprika.
Weight loss of cucumber packed with corrugated paperboard box after 7 days storage at 20oC was 4.9%, and those of 20LD, 40LD film and EPS box were 0.8, 0.7, and 0.8%. Total ascorbic acid content of EPS was 15% higher than that of control. Hardness of EPS was also similar trend. Chlorophil content of cucumber packed with EPS box was 21% higher than that of control. Decay of control was 1-2 pieces per box, but the others was not found. Overall appearence of LD, EPS was better than that of control.
Not only is it important that the physical properties of the paperboards be appropriate for the intended end use, but the proper arrangement of the component in the built-up board is essential for attaining the optimum moment of inertia and the maximum load-carrying ability in a box. It is known to be impossible to estimate the stress distribution and deflection pattern by experiments or theoretical analysis when the corrugated fiberboard get the bending force. This study was tried theoretical and finite element analysis to analyze structural strength characteristics of corrugated fiberboards. If the linerboard and corrugating medium of every corrugated fiberboards is made from the same material, the location of neutral axis comes close to inside liner in order of DMA, DM, DMB, SW and DW, and moment of inertia of area decreases in order of DMA, DMB, DW, DM and SW. With the finite element analysis, deflection of applied loads represented SW, DM, DMA, and TW in the order of their value.
Thin walled steel bridge-piers/columns are vulnerable to damage, when subjected to earthquake excitations. Local buckling, global buckling or interaction between local and global buckling usually is the cause of this damage, which results in significant strength reduction of the member. In this study new innovative design concepts, "thin-walled corrugated steel columns" and "thin-walled cellular steel columns" are presented, which allow the column to undergo large plastic deformations without significant strength reduction; hence dissipate energy under cyclic loading. It is shown that, compared with the conventional designs, circular and stiffened box sections, these new innovative concepts might results in cost-effective designs, with improved buckling and ductility properties. Using a finite element model, that takes the non-linear material properties into consideration, it is shown that the corrugations will act like longitudinal stiffeners that are supporting each other, thus improving the buckling behavior and allowing for reduction of the overall wall thickness of the column.

For both economic and ecological reasons corrugated box manufacturers are seeking to produce acceptably strong boxes while using more recycled paper. This study was to develop hydrophilic coating agents in order to improve overall physical properties of recycled corrugated fiberboard liners. Two coating agents were developed and applied to 'S' corrugating medium. The results showed that compression strength of new liners, named 'S-A' and 'S-B', were increased significantly both standard humidity and high humidity environment and it was as much as 'SK' liner. New developed liners were also economically advantageous since new liners were estimated about one hundred fifty dollars per ton cheaper than SK liner. The study indicated that further work is needed on the coating technology and machine development.

We developed a new antibacterial material, a non-woven fabric, a sulfur solution, and a new adhesive system to manufacture a new type of functional hybrid corrugated board in previous studies. Based on experimental data, the prototypes of functional hybrid corrugated boards were manufactured and their physical properties and functionalities, including antibacterial property and the freshness maintenance of sweet persimmon, were measured in this study. The functional hybrid corrugated board could be manufactured in the actual process with linerboards, non-woven fabrics, and other materials without any troubles, and was strong enough to be used as a packaging box for agricultural products. The antibacterial property of the hybrid corrugated board showed a value high enough to eliminate bacteria, which could deteriorate the sweet persimmons. Based on appearance observations, weight loss and firmness measurements, the freshness of sweet persimmons in the functional hybrid corrugated board was maintained better than it was in the conventional corrugated board.
