취약도 분석을 통한 교각의 지진위험도 평가 (Seismic Risk Assessment of Piers Using Fragility Analysis)

  • This study represents results of fragility curve development for 3-span continuous bridge. To research the response of bridge under earthquake excitation, Monte Carlo simulation is performed to study nonlinear dynamic analysis. Because of limited number of real time histories from the Korean peninsula, a set of 150 synthetic time histories were generated. Fragility corves in this study are represented by lognormal distribution functions with two parameters and developed as a function of PGA. Five damage states were defined to express the condition of damage based on the actual experimental damage data of bridge column. As a result of this research, the value of damage probability corresponding to each damage state were determined. This approach may be used in constructing the fragility curves for all of bridge structure and, by extension, in constructing the seismic hazard map.

  • In this study, two extreme cases of compatibility of the horizontal displacements between the foundation and soil are considered, for which the pressure and settlements of the isolated footings and member end actions in structural elements are obtained using the three dimensional models and numerical experiments. The first case considered is complete slip between foundation and soil, termed as the un-coupled analysis. In the second case of analysis, termed as the coupled analysis, complete welding is assumed of joints between the foundation and soil elements. The model and the corresponding computer program developed simulate these two extreme states of compatibility giving insight into the variation of horizontal displacements and horizontal stresses and their intricacies, for evaluation of the influence of using the interface elements in soil-structure interaction analysis of three dimensional multiscale structures supported by isolated footings.

Evaluation of the true-strength characteristics for isotropic materials using ring tensile test

  • The paper proposes a technique for reconstructing the true hardening curve of isotropic materials from ring tensile tests. Neutron irradiated 42XNM alloy tensile properties were investigated. The calculation of the true hardening curve for tensile and compression tests of standard cylindrical samples was performed at the first step. After that, the FEM-model was developed and validated using the ring tension and compression tests (with the hardening curve defined in step 1). Finally, the true hardening curve was calculated by selecting the FEM-model parameters and its validation by ring sample tests in different states using an iterative method. For these samples, experimental and calculated gauge length values were obtained, and the corresponding material's constants were estimated.

  • Monoamine oxidase (MAO) is flavin-containing enzyme that catalyzes the oxidation of variety of amine-containing neurotransmitters such as catecholamines and serotonin to yield the corresponding aldehyde. Study of Frozen Molecular Surfaces by $Cs^{+}$ Reactive ion Scattering and tow-Energy Secondary ton Mass Spectrometry

  • We show that a combined technique of Cs$^{+}$ reactive ion scattering (Cs$^{+}$ RIS) and low-energy secondary ion mass spectrometry (LESIMS) provides a powerful means for probing molecular films and their surface reactions. Simple molecules, including HCI, NH$_3$, D$_2$O, and their mixtures, were deposited into a thin film of several monolayer thickness on Ru(001) at low temperature in vacuum, and the surface was characterized by Cs$^{+}$ RIS and LESIMS. On pure films, D$_2$O, HCI, and NH$_3$ existed in the corresponding molecular states. When HCI and NH$_3$ were co-deposited, ammonium ion(NH$_4$$^{+}$) was readily formed by proton transfer from HCI to NH$_3$. In the presence of water molecules, HCI ionized first to hydronium ion(H$_3$O$^{+}$), which subsequently transferred proton to NH$_3$ to form NH$_4$$^{+}$. The proton transfer, however, did not occur to a completion on ice, in contrast to the complete reaction in aqueous solutions.s solutions.

ASSESSMENT OF PUBLIC PERCEIVED ROADWAY SMOOTHNESS

  • International Roughness Index (IRI) has been widely used by state DOTs to quantify pavement smoothness. When pavement condition falls below certain IRI thresholds, corresponding pavement maintenance treatments should be considered for application. Selection of appropriate IRI thresholds is essential to tactical allocation of limited resources to improve the conditions of states' roadway systems. This selection process is often challenging, however, because IRI thresholds are largely determined by Perceived Ride Quality (PRQ), and PRQ differs in each state. In this paper, a framework is proposed to address this problem. Passenger raters will be randomly selected from predetermined geographic locations, and their PRQ ratings collected. Taking this perceived ride data, along with other data collected, a statistical analysis will be conducted to establish the relationship between measured IRI values and PRQ. Appropriate IRI thresholds will then be determined. Once this framework is implemented, state DOTs could make informative maintenance decisions, which are expected to greatly enhance the public perception of pavement conditions in today's challenging economy.

지반보강용 주입재의 성능향상을 위한 초음파 에너지의 활용 (Application of ultrasonic energy to enhance capability of soil improving material)

  • 본 연구에서는 지반보강용 시멘트-페이스트에 초음파를 조사하여 온도변화, 점도, 일축압축강도, 육안관측 시험을 통해 초음파가 시멘트-페이스트에 어떠한 물리적 특성을 변화시키는지에 대하여 고찰하였다. 실험에 사용된 w/c는 50~100%까지 다양하게 진행하였으며, 그라우트재의 온도변화는 ${\pm}2^{\circ}C$내에서 범위를 벗어나지 않도록 조절하여 실험을 진행하였다. 실험결과 온도변화는 초음파 조사시간에 비례하여 일정하게 증가하였고, 초음파를 조사한 지반보강용 시멘트-페이스트 점도는 최대 40%까지 감소하는 것으로 나타났다. 일축압축강도는 평균 30% 증가하였으며 육안관측시험에서도 초음파를 조사한 시멘트-페이스트의 단면이 공극이 많이 감소하는 양상을 보였다.

Theoretical Studies of the Gas-Phase Identity Nucleophilic Substitution Reactions of Cyclopentadienyl Halides

  • The gas phase identity nucleophilic substitution reactions of halide anions (X = F, Cl, Br) with cyclopentadienyl halides (1) are investigated at the B3LYP/6-311+G**, MP2/6-311+G** and G2(+)MP2 levels involving five reaction pathways: σ-attack $S_N2$, β-$S_N$2'-syn, β-$S_N$2'-anti, γ-$S_N$2'-syn and γ-$S_N$2'-anti paths. In addition, the halide exchange reactions at the saturated analogue, cyclopentyl halides (2), and the monohapto circumambulatory halide rearrangements in 1 are also studied at the same three levels of theory. In the σ-attack $S_N2$ transition state for 1 weak positive charge develops in the ring with X = F while negative charge develops with X = Cl and Br leading to a higher energy barrier with X = F but to lower energy barriers with X = Cl and Br than for the corresponding reactions of 2. The π-attack β-$S_N$2' transition states are stabilized by the strong $n_C-{\pi}^{*}_{C=C}$ charge transfer interactions, whereas the π-attack γ-$S_N$2' transition states are stabilized by the strong $n_C-{\sigma}^{*}_{C-X}$ interactions. For all types of reaction paths, the energy barriers are lower with X = F than Cl and Br due to the greater bond energy gain in the partial C-X bond formation with X = F. The β-$S_N$2' paths are favored over the γ-$S_N$2' paths only with X = F and the reverse holds with X = Cl and Br. The σ-attack $S_N2$ reaction provides the lowest energy barrier with X = Cl and Br, but that with X = F is the highest energy barrier path. Activation energies for the circumambulatory rearrangement processes are much higher (by more than 18 kcal $mol^{-1}$) than those for the corresponding $S_N2$ reaction path. Overall the gas-phase halide exchanges are predicted to proceed by the σ-attack $S_N2$ path with X = Cl and Br but by the β-$S_N$2'-anti path with X = F. The barriers to the gas-phase halide exchanges increase in the order X = F < Br < Cl, which is the same as that found for the gas-phase identity methyl transfer reactions.

3차원 구성관계를 고려한 FRP-구속 콘크리트의 압축거동 예측모델 (Prediction of Compressive Behavior of FRP-Confined Concrete Based on the Three-Dimensional Constitutive Laws)

  • 제안된 모델은 FRP 구속 콘크리트에 대한 압축거동 예측을 위한 것이다. FRP로 구속된 콘크리트의 모델링을 위하여, 3축 응력상태의 콘크리트 아탄성 구성관계를 제시하였다. FRP 구속에 따른 콘크리트 강도 증진은 3축 응력공간의 파괴기준에 따라 결정되며, 이에 대응하는 최대 압축변형률은 본 연구에서 제안된 변형률 증진계수로부터 결정된다. 따라서, 기존의 모델들이 하중단계에 관계없이 구속조건이 초기부터 파괴까지 일정하게 고려되는 반면에, 제안된 모델은 FRP로 구속된 콘크리트의 구속현상을 하중단계에 의존적인 비선형 관계로 제시하였다. FRP 층은 2차원의 적층된 복합재료의 해석에 기초하여 모델링되었다. 개발된 해석모델은 증분법에 의한 압축거동실험에 대한 해석을 수행할 수 있도록 하였다. FRP로 구속된 콘크리트 실린더의 대한 여러 연구자들의 실험 결과와 본 예측모델을 비교한 결과, 제안된 모델은 축방향 변형 뿐만 아니라 횡방향 변형을 포함하여 FRP 층으로 인한 콘크리트의 구속효과의 증진에 관한 거동 특성들을 잘 예측해 주었다.

트위터에서 트윗 주기와 사용자 속도 사이 관계 (Relationship Between Tweet Frequency and User Velocity on Twitter)

  • 최근 위치 정보를 제공하는 온라인 소셜 네트워크 서비스들의 급증으로 인해 사용자들의 지리적 위치 데이터의 중요성이 강조되고 있다. 본 논문에서는 사용자들의 고 정밀 위치 정보를 알려주는 공간 태그된 트윗 (geo-tagged tweet) 정보를 활용하여 트위터 사용자들의 정확한 위치와 트윗 전송시각을 알아낸 후, 이를 통해 사용자의 평균 이동속도와 트윗 주기 (tweet frequency) 사이의 관계를 분석한다. 구체적으로, 트윗 빈도수 계산 알고리즘을 소개하며, 결과에 대한 분석은 국가별, 도시별로 나누어 진행한다. 주요 결과로써, 사용자 속도에 따른 트윗 주기가 멱 법칙 분포 (power-law distribution) (또는 Zipf의 법칙 분포, Pareto 분포)를 따름을 보인다. 또한, 미국과 일본에서의 결과를 비교할 때, 일본에서의 분포도 지수가 미국의 경우에 비해 작음을 확인한다.
