Purpose: This clinical study was conducted to evaluate the predictive value of tumor markers for recurrence and the clinical significance of false positive findings after curative gastrectomy in patients with gastric cancer. Materials and Methods: Two hundred ninety patients with gastric cancer who underwent gastrectomy with curative intent were evaluated retrospectively. We analyzed the correlations between changes in tumor markers (CEA, CA 19-9, AFP, and CA-125) and clinicopathologic data, and basis for changes in tumor markers without recurrence during the follow-up period. Results: The sensitivity, specificity, positive predictive value, negative predictive value, and accuracy of tumor markers for recurrence were 75.0%, 64.6%, 23.1%, 94.8%, and 65.9% respectively. Among 36 patients with recurrences, 10 patients (27.8%) had elevated tumor markers prior to positive findings on imaging studies, while 13 patients (36.1%) had concomitant elevation in tumor markers. At least 1 of the 4 tumor markers increased in 90 of 290 patients during the follow-up period; however, there was no evidence of tumor recurrence. Twenty patients had persistently elevated tumor markers, while the tumor marker levels in 70 patients returned to normal level within $9.08\pm7.2$ months. The patients with pulmonary disease, hepatobiliary disease, diabetes, hypertension, or herbal medication users had elevated tumor markers more frequently than patients without disease (P<0.001). Conclusion: Although detecting recurrence of gastric cancer with tumor markers may be useful, false positive findings of tumor markers are common, so surgeons should consider other chronic benign diseases and medical conditions when tumor markers increase without evidence of recurrence.

The purpose of this study is to investigate the education practice of creativity perceived by adolescents and secondary teachers. The subjects in this study are 305 secondary students and 133 secondary school teachers, who have completed questionnaires of 'Education Practice of Creativity' and 'Creativity Fostering Teacher Behavior', The results of this study are as follows: (1) It is found that most adolescents and teachers recognized the need and importance of creativity-fostered education in school. However. the degree of adolescents' and teacher's understanding and satisfaction of creativity-fostered education in school is low. Half of the adolescents have received creativity-fostered education for over three years but half of the teachers have not performed or started to perform creativity-fostered education. Main obstacles of creativity-fostered education in school are lack of understanding creativity-fostered education, lack of teaching methods. teaching materials and teaching time. Antecedents for developing creativity-fostered education are building school climate for creativity-fostered education and selecting and applying various teaching contents. (2) Adolescents' satisfaction of creativity-fostered education have meaningful differences with gender. Also, adolescents' necessity, satisfaction, importance of creativity-fostering education. and creativity-fostered teacher behavior have meaningful differences with grade. (3) There are significant differences in the necessity, importance, interest, and understanding of creativity-fostered education according to a teacher's gender. Also. there are significant differences in the necessity and the understanding of creativity-fostered education according to a teacher's age. (4) There are significant differences between adolescents and teachers in the necessity, satisfaction, importance, interest and understanding of creativity-fostered education and creativity-fostered teacher behavior. (5) There are significant correlations among the necessity, satisfaction, importance, interest of creativity-fostered education and the creativity-fostered teacher behavior.
The correlation and Empirical Orthogonal Function (EOF) analyses over the globe have been applied to intercompare lower-stratospheric (${\sim}$70hPa) temperature obtained from satellite data and two model reanalyses. The data is the19 years (1980-98) Microwave Sounding Unit (MSU) channel 4 (Ch4) brightness temperature, and the reanalyses are GCM (NCEP, 1980-97; GEOS, 1981-94) outputs. In MSU monthly climatological anomaly, the temperature substantially decreases by ${\sim}$21k in winter over southern polar regions, and its annual cycle over tropics is weak. In October the temperature and total ozone over the area south of Australia remarkably increase together. High correlations (r${\ge}$0.95) between MSU and reanalyses occur in most global areas, but they are lower (r${\sim}$O.75) over the 20-3ON latitudes, northern America and southern Andes mountains. The first mode of MSU and reanalyses for monthly-mean Ch4 temperature shows annual cycle, and the lower-stratospheric warming due to volcanic eruptions. The analyses near the Korean peninsula show that lower-stratospheric temperature, out of phase with that for troposphere, increases in winter and decreases in summer. In the first mode for anomaly over the tropical Pacific, MSU and reanalyses indicate lower-stratospheric warming due to volcanic eruptions. In the second mode MSU and GEOS present Quasi-Biennial Oscillation (QBO) while NCEP, El Ni${\tilde{n}}$o. Volcanic eruption and QBO have more impact on lower-stratospheric thermal state than El Ni${\tilde{n}}$o. The EOF over the tropical Atlantic is similar to that over the Pacific, except a negligible effect of El Ni${\tilde{n}}$o. This study suggests that intercomparison of satellite data with model reanalyses may estimate relative accuracy of both data.

Student questioning is included in the priority of science literacy, to enable students to solve problems by exploring questions, communicating and constructing knowledge(AAAS, 1989). Also, the essence of student questioning in science lies in its function as a link between thinking and learning. But educators did not pay much attention to students' questioning in Korea. The purpose of this study was to investigate the effects of science question enhancement instruction on students' science questioning level and achievement. Also, this study showed the effects of other variables(logical thinking, science achievement, interest, and gender) on students' science questioning level. The pretest-posttest control group design group design was used. The sample was consisted of 80 second grade middle school students in experimental group(Science question enhancement instruction) and 74 students in control group(Traditional learning). Students in both groups were received identical content instruction on the unit 'Structures and functions of plant'. These groups were treated for 15 hours during 6 weeks. Students' questions were rated using the four levels described by the Middle School Students' Science Question Rating Scale(r= .96,)(Cuccio-Schirripa & Steinner, 2000). Science achievement data were collected using a 17 item multiple choice test(Cronbach ${\alpha}$= .84). To investigate students' logical thinking ability, a abridged GALT(Cronbach ${\alpha}$= .69) was used. Five-way ANOVA, ANCOVA, and multiple regression analysis were used to analyze the results. The results indicated that students who received instruction on researchable questioning outperformed those students who were not instructed on high-order questioning(p< .01). Results of correlations indicated that instruction(r= .640), science achievement(r= .311) and logical thinking ability(r= .212) was significantly and positively related with students' questioning level. But, interest and gender did not show any significant correlation with students' questioning level. Science question enhancement instruction was more effective on science achievement than the traditional instruction(p< .01).

Objective : The purpose of this study is to investigate awareness of rehabilitation practitioners working at community wellness centers regarding the sensory integration (SI) therapy. Methods : 121 rehabilitation practitioners working at community wellness centers, located in Seoul Gyeonggi, Daegu Gyeongbuk and Busan Ulsan, participated in a questionnaire survey to examine their awareness of SI therapy. The questionnaire constructed based on four elements of the information about SI therapy; SI therapy's purpose, target population and technical process, and the qualification of SI therapist. Correlations between general characteristics and the four awareness elements of SI information were explored. The level of recognition on SI therapy were examined in various perspective such as 'have heard', 'means of the recognition', 'easiness of getting information', 'recognition of necessity of SI therapy', 'willing to participate in professional education course' and 'opinions for improving recognition'. Result : There is significant difference in awareness of the all four elements of SI informations depends on several general characteristics; practitioner's clinical field, location of the center, whether SI service has been provided or not at the center, whether the practitioner carry out SI therapy, and the practitioner's clinical experience in SI therapy. Specially, the recognition of occupational therapists is relatively high compared other rehabilitation practitioners. In terms of level of recognition, most rehabilitation practitioners(96.7%) are well-aware of necessity of sensory integration therapy. 79.4% of the practitioners manifest somewhat of difficulty in getting information related SI therapy. 93.4% of the practitioners are willing to participate in professional education course for SI therapy. Opinion for improving recognition with the most number of people(21) chosen is 'educational revitalization'. Conclusion : Many rehabilitation practitioners working at community wellness centers recognize the necessity of understand SI therapy, but there is uneasiness to get relative and valid information. There are difference awareness of the SI therapy Revitalization of education for SI therapy may provide an opportunity to improve level recognition of rehabilitation practitioners. It is suggested that organ related rehabilitation, there is a need for public relations.

Objectives: The purpose of this study is to investigate the effects of stress and personality on sleep patterns, and further, to identify potential correlations between stress and personality characteristics. Methods: A total of 174 healthy college students were subjects for this study. Participants filled out the Daily Stress Inventory before sleep and the Modified Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index after sleep on three consecutive days. They also filled out the 16 Personality Factor Questionnaire (16-PF), BDI (Beck Depression Inventory) and STAI (State-Trait Anxiety Inventory). Results: Minor stresses highly correlated with subjective sleep quality and symptoms of non-restorative sleep. However, total sleep time, sleep latency, awakening frequency, and frequency of dreams were not explained by stress scores. The O (guilty feeling), C (low ego strength) and Q4 (high anxiety) factors of the 16-PF also highly correlated with symptoms of non-restorative sleep and significantly affected sleep patterns. BDI and STAI scores also correlated with the above personality factors and minor stresses. Conclusion: This study showed that minor stresses impaired the restorative effects of sleep. Personality characteristics such as low ego strength, high levels of anxiety, and feelings of guilt were vulnerable to minor stresses. Minor stress, various personality characteristics, different coping patterns, and emotional response are highly correlated with each other and affect sleep patterns.
Background: Panting method for airway resistance measurement has the disadvantages of departing from the normal breathing pattern and of difficult for some patients to perform. We can measure airway resistance during quiet breathing under more physiologic conditions. Airway resistance is often measured during panting but attempts have been made to facilitate resistance measurements during quiet breathing. This study was designed to compare airway resistance measurements during panting with those during quiet breathing. Method: The 24 normal persons and 29 pulmonary disease patients were included in this study. Spirometry was performed and airway resistance measurement was also done during panting and quiet breathing concomittently. Results: The results were as follows; 1) High correlations were found between airway resistance measurements during panting and quiet breathing. 2) Resistance fell during panting, 21.2% in Raw tot, and 22.1% in Raw 0.5. 3) In normal persons, airway resistance fell more during panting when comparing to those in pulmonary disease patients. 4) This was largely independent of thoracic gas volume differences, because the specific airway conductance rose significantly during panting 5) The patients in whom resistance didn't fell during panting was supposed to the patients who couldn't perform panting successively because of high resistance. Conclusions: Although airway resistance can be measured during panting or quiet breathing according to the patient's performance, we must consider resistance fell during panting, by a mean 20%. It may be concluded that quiet breathing is more likely than panting to provide a relevant measurement of airway resistance.

Distribution of bacterial abundance and production was investigated during October, 1995-August, 1996 in Lake Shiwha constructed artificially in 1994. Its water column was distinguished by two layers: the brackish surface layer with salinity ranged from 6 to 20‰ and the saline hypoxic/anoxic bottom layer with salinity of 17 to 27‰ Except for samples collected in March, 1996 (on average 13 ${\mu}g\;l^{-1}$), chlorophyll a concentration ranged from 27.6 to 249.5 ${\mu}g\;l^{-1}$ in the euphotic zone, indicating the hypertrophic condition of Lake Shiwha during most of the studied period. In this study, bacterial productions measured by $^3H$-thymidine incorporation method were similar to those by $^{14}C$-leucine incorporation method. In hypertrophic, surface waters of Lake Shiwha, bacterial abundance and production ranged from 1.4 to $19.5{\times}10^9\;cells\;l^{-1}$ and from 1.6 to $126.5{\times}10^7\;cells\;l^{-1}\;h^{-1}$ respectively; 2 to 4 fold and 2 to 30 fold higher than those in eutrophic coastal waters outside of Lake Shiwha, respectively. Turnover times of bacterial community in the surface layer of Lake Shiwha ranged from 0.2 to 8.9 day, indicating that bacteria in the lake seemed to adapt to the hypertrophic condition. In the hypoxic bottom layer, bacterial abundance and production was up to 3 fold and 20 fold lower than those in the surface layer, and showed slow bacterial growth. Significant correlations between the bacterial abundance, production, and community turnover time with water temperature indicate water temperature was the important factor controlling distribution and growth of bacteria. However, during summer season, bacterial production seemed to be regulated by supply of substrates.
In other aquaculture species, large improvements in growth have been achieved through selective breeding. Ezo abalone(Haliotis discus hannai) and disk abalone(H. discus discus) are major aquatic animals cultured in Asia, but selective breeding for the promotion of growth with these abalones has not been actively pursued. Recently significant efforts are being made to promote production of these species through selective breeding in Korea. The aims of this work were to estimate the general genetic parameters, heritabilities, and genetic and phenotypic correlations on growth-related traits at 1-year old in two Korean abalone subspecies, H. discus hannai and H. discus discus, by using multiple trait animal model. The data were collected from the records of 1,504 individuals produced from 22 sires and 26 dams in H. discus hannai and 297 individuals produced from 5 sires and 6 dams in H. discus discus, which evaluated by the Genetics and Breeding Research Center, National Fisheries Research & Development Institute(NFRDI). Genetic parameters were estimated for these abalone subspecies raised in Bukjeju branch, NFRDI, from May 20, 2004 to May 16, 2005, respectively. The heritability estimates obtained from restricted maximum likelihood(REML) were higher than expected, ranging from 0.40 to 0.43 for growth traits shell length, shell width and body weight in H. discus hannai and from 0.26 to 0.51 in H. discus discus, respectively. The heritabilities for shell shape and condition factor were lower than others of growth traits such as ranging from 0.09 to 0.19 in H. discus hannai and from 0.10 to 0.23 in H. discus discus, respectively. Genetic and phenotypic were > 0.93 between shell parameters and weight in two abalone species, respectively, indicating that breeding for weight gains could be successfully achieved by selecting for shell length.
The effects of weather variations on winter hulless barley were analyzed using data obtained from winter crop situation test at Iksan from 1985 to 2015. The wintering stage in the 16 years from 2000 to 2015 has become colder and shorter than that in the previous 15 years from 1985 to 1999. This has resulted in an early sequence of regrowth date, heading date, and ripening date. Heading date of hulless barley was mostly influenced by regrowth date and period of stem elongation. Futher, the regrowth date and period of stem elongation were strongly negatively correlated with the average air temperature in February and the maximum air temperature in March, respectively. The number of spikes per $m^2$ and 1000-grain weight of Saechalssal cultivated from 2003 to 2015 showed strong positive correlations with yield. In early heading years, yield increased with extended ripening period and with increased 1000-grain weight. There was a strong negative correlation between 1000-grain weight and the average temperature during the ripening period. In the 15 years from 1985 to 1999, warm winters contributed to yield increase with increase in the number of spikes per $m^2$ and a long ripening period. In contrast, in the recent 16 years from 2000 to 2015, the large variability in air temperature during the wintering stage, the decreasing number of spikes per $m^2$ and the steadily increasing air temperature and decreasing precipitation during the ripening stage have caused high temperature stress and yield loss in late heading years.
