  • CZZ (Concatenated Zigzag) Code is a class of fast encodable LDPC codes. In the case that LDPC codes including CZZ codes have short length, short cycles seriously affect the code performance. In this paper, we construct CZZ codes using various degree-2 polynomial interleavers which eliminate cycles of length 4 and through simulation, compare the performance of these CZZ codes and turbo codes in many different fading channels. Especially, quasi-static fading channel, block fading channel, uncorrelated fading channel, and correlated fading channel are considered. Since CZZ codes show similar performance as turbo codes, they can be used in the next generation wireless communication systems.

  • The detrimental effect of short-term fading and shadowing can be mitigated using microdiversity and macrodiversity systems, respectively. In this paper, implementation of selection combining at both micro and macro levels to improve system performance is analyzed. An assessment of the performance of such a system is carried out by considering the desired signal as Rician fading with lognormal shadowing and cochannel interference signal as Rayleigh fading superimposed over lognormal shadowing. The proposed analysis is complemented by various performance evaluation results, including the effects on overall system performance of fading severity, shadowing spreads and branch correlation existing at the base station, and correlation between base stations.

  • The reliability of conventional wireless communication systems are diminished by multi-path fading, shadowing, propagation delay, pathloss, AWGN and an interference of the symbols. Therefore, we need more reliable system which can stably transmit multimedia datas over the poor communication environments, so, in this paper, we used STBC system based on STTC that allows a maximum space diversity gain of STBC scheme and channel efficiency, coding gain and diversity gain of STTC scheme at the same time. We did then analyzed the performance over the correlated slow fading channel between transmitter and receiver channels.

  • In this paper we derive the theoretical performance of orthogonal STBC algorithms in spatially correlated Rayleigh fading environments and compare their performances for various correlation conditions. We first derive the theoretical BER of the orthogonal STBC algorithms for both M-ary PSK and M-ary QAM modulation schemes by using the eigenvalues of the channel correlation matrix and then investigate the effect of the spatial correlation on the performance for various transmission rates of $1{\sim}4bps/Hz$. Performance analysis illustrates that the Alamouti scheme provides the better performance than the Tarokh scheme for all the transmission rates in highly correlated fading environments with a correlation being larger than 0.9.

  • This paper presents the performance evaluation of an amplify-and-forward (AF) relay-assisted multiuser multiple input-multiple output (MU-MIMO) downlink transmission system for correlated fading channels. The overall system performance was improved by incorporating a double-quadrature spatial modulation (DQSM) scheme. The bit error rate (BER) performance and detection complexity of the AF-MU-MIMO-DQSM system were analyzed and compared with those of a conventional AF-MU-MIMO system under the same conditions and parameters. The results showed that the correlated fading channel severely affected the performance of systems with higher spectral efficiency (SE). Considering an SE of 12 bpcu/user, the AF-MU-MIMO-DQSM system yielded a gain of up to 3 dB in BER performance compared with that of its conventional counterpart for the analyzed cases. In terms of detection complexity, the AF-MU-MIMO-DQSM system showed a reduction of up to 56 % compared with that of the conventional system for the optimal maximum likelihood detection criterion.

  • A Rayleigh fading channel simulator that realizes given correlation properties between two channels such as downlink/uplink is described. We propose an improved channel simulator that provides more accurate match between reference correlation and simulated one. The proposed channel simulator is based on a sum-of-sinusoids (SOS) method that handles finite sums of weighted sinusoid functions. SOS method is widely accepted in generating fading signals and obtain the exact match with the reference model if infinite number of weighted sinusoids are used. The proposed channel simulator minimizes mean-square-error (MSE) to obtain a close matched correlation properties.

  • We analyze the relationship between channel coherence bandwidth and two complexity-reduced lattice reduction aided detection (LRAD) algorithms for multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) systems in correlated fading channels. In both the adaptive LR algorithm and the fixed interval LR algorithm, we exploit the inherent feature of unimodular transformation matrix P that remains the same for the adjacent highly correlated subcarriers. Complexity simulations demonstrate that the adaptive LR algorithm could eliminate up to approximately 90 percent of the multiplications and 95 percent of the divisions of the brute-force LR algorithm with large coherence bandwidth. The results also show that the adaptive algorithm with both optimum and globally suboptimum initial interval settings could significantly reduce the LR complexity, compared with the brute-force LR and fixed interval LR algorithms, while maintaining the system performance.

  • The existing coders used in the fading channels are designed under the assumption that the ideal interleaver, which removes the fading correlation of the channel, is used. With the non-ideal interleaver of finite size, however, the performance of the coded modulation system degrades rapidly when the fading is very slow. A new method which achieves interleaving effects by switching the transmitter antennas is suggested to improve the performance even in the slow fading. The performance of the new system is analyzed. The results show significant performance improvement in the slow fading and at least no deterioration in the fast fading over the existing systems.

  • The purpose of IEEE 802.16j is to extend coverage and to enhance throughput by using relay station additionally to conventional IEEE 802.16e . The cellular system experiences performance degradation at the cell edge due to pathloss, shadow and multipath fading. We can get advantage of spatial diversity gain by using relays more than two cooperatively in the IEEE 802.16j system. Cooperative relaying using space-time code provides better performance under multipath fading and has more robustness against the shadow fading than single relaying. In this paper, we investigate the performance of IEEE 802.16j using cooperative relaying by link level simulation. We also show that the cooperative relaying system achieves better performance than the conventional single relaying system. We apply realistic shadow model considering correlations between shadow fadings of different relaying paths. It is shown that the performance of the system depends highly on the spatial location of relay stations.

  • In this paper, the capacity of MIMO fading channel in the OFDM-based spatial multiplexing systems is analyzed when there is scattering at both transmitter and receiver. The employed MIMO channel model is spanning from the correlated low-rank case to uncorrelated high-rank case at both transmitter and receiver. The effects of spatial fading correlation on the capacity of MIMO channel is examined when the channel is known and unknown at the transmitter. We also evaluate the impacts of a channel estimation error at the transmitter on the MIMO channel capacity.
