POORLY STUDIED ECLIPSING BINARIES IN THE FIELD OF DO DRACONIS: V454 DRA AND V455 DRA

  • We report an analysis of two poorly studied eclipsing binary stars, GSC 04396-00605 and GSC 04395-00485 (recently named V455 Dra and V454 Dra, respectively). Photometric data of the two stars were obtained using the 1-m Korean telescope of the LOAO operated by KASI while monitoring the cataclysmic variable DO Dra in the frame of the Inter-Longitude Astronomy (ILA) project. We derived periods of 0.434914 and 0.376833 days as well as initial epochs JD 2456480.04281 and JD 2456479.0523, respectively, more accurate than previously published values by factors 9 and 6. The phenomenological characteristics of the mean light curves were determined using the New Algol Variable (NAV) algorithm. The individual times of maxima/minima (ToM) were determined using the newly developed software MAVKA, which outputs accurate parameters using "asymptotic parabola" approximations. The light curves were approximated using phenomenological and physical models. In the NAV algorithm, the phenomenological parameters are well determined. We derived physical parameters using the Wilson-Devinney model. In this model, the best-fit parameters are highly correlated, thus some of them were fixed to reasonable values. For both systems, we find evidence for the presence of a cool spot and estimate its parameters. Both systems can be classified as overcontact binaries of EW type.

Analysis on the Formation of Li4SiO4 and Li2SiO3 through First Principle Calculations and Comparing with Experimental Data Related to Lithium Battery

  • The formation of Li-Si-O phases, $Li_4SiO_4$ and $Li_2SiO_3$ from the starting materials SiO and $Li_2O$ are analyzed using Vienna Ab-initio Simulation (VASP) package and the total energies of Li-Si-O compounds are evaluated using Projector Augmented Wave (PAW) method and correlated the structural characteristics of the binary system SiO-$Li_2O$ with experimental data from electrochemical method. Despite $Li_2SiO_3$ becomes stable phase by virtue of lowest formation energy calculated through VASP, the experimental method shows presence of $Li_4SiO_4$ as the only product formed when SiO and $Li_2O$ reacts during slow heating to reach $550^{\circ}C$ and found no evidence for the formation of $Li_2SiO_3$. Also, higher density of $Li_4SiO_4$(2.42 g $ml^{-1}$) compared to the compositional mixture $1SiO_2-2Li_2O$ (2.226 g $ml^{-1}$) and better cycle capacity observed through experiment proves that $Li_4SiO_4$ as the most stable anode supported by better cycleabilityfor lithium ion battery remains as paradox from the point of view of VASP calculations.

Identifying early indicator traits for sow longevity using a linear-threshold model in Thai Large White and Landrace females

  • Objective: The objective of the study was to investigate the possibility of utilizing an early litter size trait as an indirect selection trait for longevity and to estimate genetic parameters between sow stayability and litter size at different parities using a linear-threshold model for longevity in Thai Large White (LW) and Landrace (LR) populations. Methods: The data included litter size at first, second, and third parities (NBA1, NBA2, and NBA3) and sow stayability from first to fourth farrowings (STAY14). The data was obtained from 10,794 LR and 9,475 LW sows. Genetic parameters were estimated using the multiple-trait animal model. A linear-threshold model was used in which NBA1, NBA2, and NBA3 were continuous traits, while STAY14 was considered a binary trait. Results: Heritabilities for litter size were low and ranged from 0.01 to 0.06 for both LR and LW breeds. Similarly, heritabilities for stayability were low for both breeds. Genetic associations between litter size and stayability ranged from 0.43 to 0.65 for LR populations and 0.12 to 0.55 for LW populations. The genetic correlation between NBA1 and STAY14 was moderate and in a favorable direction for both LR and LW breeds (0.65 and 0.55, respectively). Conclusion: A linear-threshold model could be utilized to analyze litter size and sow stayability traits. Furthermore, selection for litter size at first parity, which was the genetic trait correlated with longevity, is possible when one attempts to improve lifetime productivity in Thai swine populations.

Pathologic conditions associated with impacted third molars: A retrospective study of panoramic radiographs in a Southern Brazilian population

  • Purpose: This study investigated the prevalence of developmental and acquired pathologic conditions associated with impacted third molars (3Ms) in a Southern Brazilian population and evaluated whether demographic and tooth characteristics were correlated with the presence of bone or tooth lesions. Materials and Methods: Panoramic radiographs were assessed for developmental (bone-related) or acquired (tooth-related) pathoses associated with impacted upper or lower 3Ms. Data on tooth positioning, tooth development, and patient demographics were collected. A trained, calibrated postgraduate student evaluated all images. Binary and multivariate logistic regression models were used to assess associations between outcomes and the demographic and radiographic variables. The threshold for statistical significance was set at 5% (P<0.05). Results: The sample comprised panoramic radiographs from 2054 patients, predominantly female (59.2%), with a mean age of 27.2±11.5 years. Overall, 4066 impacted 3Ms were evaluated, revealing 471 (11.6%) developmental and 710 (17.5%) acquired pathoses. Among the developmental pathoses, 460 (95.2%) were indicative of dentigerous cysts. Male sex, lower 3M location, vertical or distoangular positioning, and incomplete root formation were associated with an elevated likelihood of developmental pathology. Lower tooth position, complete root formation, and partial eruption were linked to an increased probability of an acquired pathology in the third or second molar. Conclusion: The prevalence of pathologic conditions associated with impacted 3Ms was low. Male sex, lower 3M placement, horizontal or distoangular positioning, and incomplete root formation were associated with developmental pathoses, while lower tooth position, complete root formation, and partial eruption were related to acquired pathoses.

다형질 Threshold 개체모형에서 Missing 기록을 포함한 이산형 자료에 대한 Bayesian 분석 (Bayesian Analysis for Categorical Data with Missing Traits Under a Multivariate Threshold Animal Model)

  • 한우의 근내지방도 또는 임신 여부 등과 같이 이산형 분포의 성질을 갖는 다수의 형질들에 대한 유전모수 및 종축의 유전능력을 평가하기 위한 방법으로써 Threshold 모형하에서 Bayesian 추론방법의 일종인 Gibbs sampling방법을 모의실험을 통하여 알아보았으며 기록이 누락된 다수의 형질을 포함하는 다형질 Threshold 개체모형에서의 종축평가 방법론을 제시하였다. 이산형 형질의 관측치에 대응하는 임의의 잠재변수는 기록을 갖고 있는 형질들에 대한 사전정보를 고려한 사후조건확률분포에서 Gibbs sampling을 할 때 모수에 근접하는 확률분포를 얻을 수 있었으며 이러한 이산형 기록들에 대한 육종가 추정치는 선형모형에서 보다 Threshold 모형에서의 추정치가 실제 모수에 더욱 근접하는 것을 알 수 있었다. 따라서 기록이 누락된 개체들에 대한 이산형 분포를 갖는 형질들에 대하여 선형분포를 갖는 형질들과 함께 동시 유전분석할 때 Threshod 모형이 일반 선형모형 보다 적합함을 알 수 있었다.

고압가스계 소화약제(HFCs계열)와 질소의 상호용해도 측정 (Measurement of Mutual Solubility of High-pressure Gaseous Fire Extinguishing Agents(HFCs) and Nitrogen)

  • Bromotrifluoromethane(halon-1301)과 bromochlorodifluoromethane(halon-1211)은 우수한 열역학적 성질에 의해 소화제로 널리 사용되어 오고 있다. 그러나 halon-1301과 halon-1211의 사용과 생산은 국제 환경조약인 Montreal protocol에 의해 점차 사용이 중지되고 있으며, 본격적인 규제에 대한 대책 마련이 요구되는 시점에 있다. 그리하여, 할론 사용규제와 더불어 각국은 할론 소화제 대신 HFCs를 사용하는 방안이 제시되었으며, 이미 선진국에서는 다양한 종류의 소화제 개발을 발표하고 있다. 본 연구에서는 대체 소화제로서 소화제의 배출시간을 단축시켜주는 가압가스 nitrogen과 halon 대체 물질인 HFCs 계열 물질중 chlorodifluoromethane(HFC-22), pentafluoroethane(HFC-125), 1,1,1,2-tetrafluoroethane(HFC-l34a)을 선정하여 이들간의 이성분계 혼합물에 대한 상호 용해력을 알아보기 위해 상평형을 측정하였다. 상평형은 기-액 순환이 동시에 이루어지는 circultion type 장치에서 측정되었으며, 실험온도는 실제 소화제 저장탱크의 온도범위인 283.15-303.15K로 선정하였고, 압력범위는 이 온도범위에서 탱크에 걸릴 수 있는 최저압력과 최고압력보다 충분히 여유를 두어 3.0-10.0 MPa조건에서 실험하였다. 실험데이터는 Peng-Robinson 상태방정식 및 Wong-Sandler mixing rules을 사용하여 혼합물의 거동을 예측하였고, 이를 실험 결과와 비교 검토하였다.

응급실내 급성 중독 환자들의 예후 예측에 대한 혈액 젖산 수치의 유용성 (Prognostic Value of Blood Lactate for Mortality of Acutely Poisoned Patients in Emergency Department)

  • Purpose: Patients suffering from acute poisoning by different substances often visit the emergency department (ED) and receive various prognoses according to the toxic material and patients' condition. Hyperlactatemia, which is an increased blood lactate level that generally indicates tissue hypoperfusion, is commonly utilized as a prognostic marker in critically ill patients such as those with sepsis. This study was conducted to investigate the relationships between blood lactate and clinical prognosis in acute poisoned patients. Methods: This retrospective study was conducted from January 2013 to June 2014 at a single and regional-tertiary ED. We enrolled study patients who were examined for blood test with lactate among acute intoxicated patients. The toxic materials, patient demographics, laboratory data, and mortalities were also reviewed. Additionally, we analyzed variables including blood lactate to verify the correlation with patient mortality. Results: A total of 531 patients were enrolled, including 24 (4.5%) non-survivors. Patient age, Glasgow coma scale (GCS), serum creatinine (Cr), aspartate transaminase (AST), and serum lactate differed significantly between survivors and non-survivors in the binary logistic regression analysis. Among these variables, GCS, AST, and lactate differed significantly. The median serum lactate levels were 2.0 mmol/L among survivors and 6.9 mmol/L among non-survivors. The AUC with the ROC curve and odds ratio of the initial serum lactate were 0.881 and 3.06 (0.89-8.64), respectively. Conclusion: Serum lactate was correlated with fatalities of acute poisoning patients in the ED; therefore, it may be used as a clinical predictor to anticipate their prognoses.

유전자 알고리즘을 이용한 분류자 앙상블의 최적 선택 (Optimal Selection of Classifier Ensemble Using Genetic Algorithms)

  • 앙상블 학습은 분류 및 예측 알고리즘의 성과개선을 위하여 제안된 기계학습 기법이다. 그러나 앙상블 학습은 기저 분류자의 다양성이 부족한 경우 다중공선성 문제로 인하여 성과개선 효과가 미약하고 심지어는 성과가 악화될 수 있다는 문제점이 제기되었다. 본 연구에서는 기저 분류자의 다양성을 확보하고 앙상블 학습의 성과개선 효과를 제고하기 위하여 유전자 알고리즘 기반의 범위 최적화 기법을 제안하고자 한다. 본 연구에서 제안된 최적화 기법을 기업 부실예측 인공신경망 앙상블에 적용한 결과 기저 분류자의 다양성이 확보되고 인공신경망 앙상블의 성과가 유의적으로 개선되었음을 보여주었다.
