  • Purpose: This study aims to offer the fundamental data in order to cost the nursing service on the basis of the NIC and a close examination of the interventions that are contained in the health insurance cost list under the system of the current health insurance. Methods: The data is handled with the SPSS 10.0 program. The participants' general peculiarity is calculated in terms of the real number and the percentage, and the performing frequency of the nursing interventions is calculated in terms of the mean and the standard deviation. the correlation between the participants' general peculiarity and the performing frequency of the nursing interventions is analysed with t-test or one way ANOVA of SPSS. Results: In the performing frequency of the nursing interventions, the domain of "the physiological: basic" was the highest as 2.69${\pm}$1.21, the domain of "the behavioral" was the lowest as 2.11${\pm}$1.12. There were 50 core interventions in the medical unit, 48 in the surgical unit, 24 in the MICU and 33 in the SICU. The health insurance cost items contained commonly in the core interventions of each unit were 12, and the health insurance cost items except 12 items contained commonly in the core interventions of each unit were appeared 14 items in the medical unit, 6 in the surgical unit, 7 in the MICU and 2 in the SICU. The core interventions contained commonly in four units of the medical unit, the surgical unit, the MICU & the SICU are 18. And among these, the core interventions contained in the health insurance cost items are 10; pain management, hyperglycemia management, analgegic administration, medication administration: intravenous, oxygen therapy, pressure ulcer prevention, fluid management, fluide monitoring, intravenous(IV) insertion, intravenous(IV) therapy. As the result of the comparison & analysis between the core interventions of the NIC and the health insurance cost items, the core interventions contained in the health insurance cost list are 21(29 as the health insurance cost items). Conclusion: In the performing frequency of the nursing interventions, the domain of "the physiological: basic" is being performed most frequently, and in the performing frequency of the core interventions, the interventions of the domain of "the physiological: complex" is being performed most frequently. On the basis of these results, the writer hopes that the attempts to interlink the nursing interventions into the nursing cost by using of standard terms and the efforts to cost the nursing services would also be made in the future constantly.

  • Purpose: This study aimed to: 1) determine the core nursing interventions, and 2) compare acute interventions with subacute interventions recorded in the nursing notes of patients with cerebrovascular accidents (CVA). Methods: The nursing records covering the first 10 days of 30 patients with a CVA who were admitted from January to December 2004 at C University Hospital in Korea were examined. Data was collected using the nursing interventions classification (NIC) from January to April 2005. Finally, data analysis was carried out using mean, SD, and paired t-test according to domains, classes, and interventions. Results: The most frequent nursing intervention at both stage was 'Neurologic monitoring'. There were differences in interventions belonging to the 'Physiological: complex,' 'Behavioral,' 'Safety,' and 'Health system' domains between the acute and subacute stages. The frequency of interventions belonging to the 'Immobility management,' 'Neurological management,' 'Tissue perfusion management,' 'Patient education,' 'Risk management,' 'Health system mediation,' and 'Information management' classes at the acute stage was higher compared to the subacute stage. Conclusions: This study found out that nurses relatively recorded more nursing interventions during the acute stage hence the unsuccessful documentation of the subacute stage particularly in describing the specific nursing interventions at this stage.

  • The purpose of this study was to identify nursing interventions performed by pediatric care unit nurses. For data collection this study used the taxonomy of Nursing Intervention Classification (NIC : 486 nursing intervention) which was modified by McCloskey & Bulecheck(2000). The 419 nursing interventions were selected by panel group, which consist of pediatric clinical experts and nursing scholars. The data were collected 104 nurses of pediatric care unit. There were 158 nursing interventions identified as being used at least monthly 50% or more of the nurses. The 32 nursing interventions were used at least daily, indication a set of core interventions unique to pediatric care unit practice. The most frequently used nursing interventions were 'Medication administration: intravenous' & 'Medication administration: oral'. The 27 nursing interventions were rarely performed by 90% or more of the nurses. The rarely used interventions were 'Ostomy care' & 'Rectal prolaps management'. The domain received the highest mean score was Health System, followed by Physiolocal: complex, Physiolocal: Basic, Safty, Community, Family, Behavior domain. These findings will help in building of a standardized language for the pediatric care units and enhance the quality of nursing care.

  • Purpose : This study was to develop Nursing Process Model of abdominal surgery patient using nursing diagnoses of NANDA, Nursing Interventions Classification(NIC), and Nursing Outcomes Classification(NOC). Method : The data in database were collected from nursing records in sixty patients with abdominal surgery admitted in a university hospital and open questionnaires of thirteen nurses. Systematic nursing process resulting from each nursing diagnoses, most common, was developed by the statistical analysis through database query from clinical database of abdominal surgery patients. Result : 51 nursing diagnoses were identified in abdominal surgery patients. The most commonly occurred nursing diagnoses were Pain, Risk for Infection, Sleep Pattern Disturbance, Hyperthermia, Altered Nutrition: Less Than Body Requirements in order. The linkage lists of NANDA to NIC and NANDA to NOC, and the nursing activities according to nursing diagnoses of abdominal surgery patients were identified in unit. Conclusion : Nursing Process of abdominal surgery patients was comprised of core nursing diagnoses, core nursing interventions, core nursing outcomes which provides the most reliable data in unit and could make nurses facilitate nursing process easily without full consideration of knowledge about nursing language classification system. Therefore, it could support nurses' decision making and recording of nursing process especially in the computerized patient record system if unit nursing process model using standardized nursing language system which contains of their own core nursing process data was developed.
