  • The test technique for the failure caused by interaction between the customized interface and core function is necessary. We propose a component customization test technique by using the fault injection technique and the mutation test case selection technique. Our technique injects fault into where the customization failure may take place and selects the test case that differentiates the fault-injected component from the customized-component. Therefore, our test case has a good fault-detectability and can reduce the testing time by injecting a fault only into a place where the customization failure may take place in the interface.

  • To develop experts capable of responding to cyber security incidents, numerous institutions have established cyber training facilities to cultivate security professionals equipped with effective defense strategies. However, these challenges such as limited resources, scenario-based content development, and cost constraints. To address these issues, this paper proposes a virtual infrastructure variation generation framework. It provides customized, diverse IT infrastructure environments for each organization, allowing cyber defense trainers to accumulate a wide range of experiences. By leveraging Infrastructure-as-Code (IaC) containers and employing Word2Vec, a natural language processing model, mutable code elements are extracted and trained, enabling the generation of new code and presenting novel container environments.

  • The aim of this study was to characterize the interactions of rice and Burkholderia glumae, a causal agent of bacterial grain rot of rice, at molecular levels using whole genomic sequences and to identify genes important for pathogenicity and symptom development. To do these, we sequenced whole genome of the bacterium and constructed cosmid clone profiles. We generated pools of mutants using various transposons and determined mutation sites by sequencing rescued plasmids. We focused on studying toxoflavin biosynthetic genes, quorum sensing regulation, and Hrp type III protein secretion systems. We found that two possible operons consisting of five genes are involved in toxoflavin biosynthesis and their expression is regulated by quorum sensing and LysR-type regulator, ToxR. We have isolated the nn PAI of B. glumae and characterized by mutational analyses. The hrp cluster resembled most the putative Type III secretion systems of B. pseudomallei, which is the causative agent of melioidosis, a serious disease of man and animals. The Hrp PAI core region showed high similarity to that of Ralstonia solanacearum and Xanthomonas campestris, however some aspects were dissimilar.

  • Diets based on carbohydrates increase rapidly the blood glucose level due to the fast conversion of carbohydrates to glucose. High glucose diets have been known to induce many lifestyle diseases. Here, we demonstrated that high glucose diet shortened the lifespan of Caenorhabditis elegans through apoptosis induction. Control adult groups without glucose diet lived for 30 days, whereas animals fed 10 mg/L of D-glucose lived only for 20 days. The reduction of lifespan by glucose diet showed a dose-dependent profile in the concentration range of glucose from 1 to 20 mg/L. Aging effect of high glucose diet was examined by measurement of response time for locomotion after stimulating movement of the animals by touching. Glucose diet decreased the locomotion capacity of the animals during mid-adulthood. High glucose diets also induced ectopic apoptosis in the body of C. elegans, which is a potent mechanism that can explain the shortened lifespan and aging. Apoptotic cell corpses stained with SYTO 12 were found in the worms fed 10 mg/L of glucose. Mutation of core apoptotic regulatory genes, CED-3 and CED-4, inhibited the reduction of viability induced by high glucose diet, which indicates that these regulators were required for glucose-induced apoptosis or lifespan shortening. Thus, we conclude that high glucose diets have potential for inducing ectopic apoptosis in the body, resulting in a shortened lifespan accompanied with loss of locomotion capacity.

  • Rapid development in computer and network technology these days has created in environment in which decisions for manufacturing companies can be made in a much broader perspective. Especially, better decisions on production and distribution planning(PDP) problems can be made laking advantage of real time information from all the parties concerned. However, since the PDP problem-a core part of the supply chain management- is known to be the so-called NP-hard problem, so heuristic methods are dominantly used to find out solutions in a reasonable time. As one of those heuristic techniques, many previous studios considered genetic a1gorithms. A standard genetic a1gorithm applies rules of reproduction, gene crossover, and mutation to the pseudo-organisms so the organisms can pass along beneficial and survival-enhancing trails to a new generation. When it comes to representing a chromosome on the problem, it is hard to guarantee an evolution of solutions through classic a1gorithm operations alone, for there exists a strong epitasis among genes. To resolve this problem, we propose a hybrid genetic a1gorithm based on Silver-Meal heuristic. Using IMS-TB(Intelligent Manufacturing System Test-bed) problem sets. the good performance of the proposed a1gorithm is demonstrated.

  • Genetic Algorithms(GA), which are based on the theory of natural evolution, have been evaluated highly for their robust performances. Traditional GA has mostly used binary code for representing design variable. The binary code GA has many difficulties to solve optimization problems with continuous design variables because of its large computer core memory size, inefficiency of its computing time, and its bad performance on local search. In this paper, a real code GA is proposed for dealing with the above problems. So, new crossover and mutation processes of GA are developed to use continuous design variables directly. The results of read code GA are compared with those of binary code GA for several single and multiple objective optimization problems. As a result of comparisons, it is found that the performance of the real code GA is better than that of the binary code GA, and concluded that the real code GA developed here can be used for the general optimization problem.

  • Optimal atomic configurations in a nanoparticle were predicted by genetic algorithm. A truncated octahedron with a fixed composition of 1 : 1 was investigated as a model system. A Python code for genetic algorithm linked with a molecular dynamics method was developed. Various operators were implemented to accelerate the optimization of atomic configuration for a given composition and a given morphology of a nanoparticle. The combination of random mix as a crossover operator and total_inversion as a mutation operator showed the most stable structure within the shortest calculation time. Pt-Ag core-shell structure was predicted as the most stable structure for a nanoparticle of approximately 4 nm in diameter. The calculation results in this study led to successful prediction of the atomic configuration of nanoparticle, the size of which is comparable to that of practical nanoparticls for the application to the nanocatalyst.

  • Rice consumption per capta, in South Korea, has been decreased dramatically, owing to the changes of living patterns. Because of not only the major energy source of Korean people but also major income source of Korean farmers, diversifying end-use-quality of rice has been demanded. To the context, 'Suweon 472', a high yielding and early mature japonica line and released as 'Namilbyeo' to framers in 2002, was treated with a chemical mutagen, Sodium Azide to find endosperm mutant types. A total of nine endosperm mutat lines, including five waxy, one dull, two floury, and one white core type, were identified from the 3,542 mutatagen treated lines. Amylose contents, iodine reaction, disintegration in alkali solution, gelatinization in urea solution and amylogram properties of those nine endosperm mutant lines were evaluated to address the possibility as new genetic materials for diversifying rice quality of Korean japonica cultivars. All embryo mutants were clearly differentiated from their wild type, 'Suweon 472', in terms of physic-chemical properties evaluated. The endosperm mutant lines would be very useful in expanding untiliztation of rice through opening new rice markets of processed foods from Korean japonica rice.

  • The present study investigates the employing of piezoelectric patches in active control of a sandwich plate. Indeed, the active control and optimal patch distribution on this structure are presented together. A sandwich plate with honeycomb core and composite reinforced by carbon nanotubes in facesheet layers is considered so that the optimum position of actuator/sensor patches pair is guaranteed to suppress the vibration of sandwich structures. The sandwich panel consists of a search space which is a square of 200 × 200 mm with a numerous number of candidates for the optimum position. Also, different dimension of square and rectangular plates to obtain the optimal placement of piezoelectric actuator/senor patches pair is considered. Based on genetic algorithm and LQR, the optimum position of patches and fitness function is determined, respectively. The present study reveals that the efficiency and performance of LQR control is affected by the optimal placement of the actuator/sensor patches pair to a large extent. It is also shown that an intelligent selection of the parent, repeated genes filtering, and 80% crossover and 20% mutation would increase the convergence of the algorithm. It is noted that a fitness function is achieved by collection actuator/sensor patches pair cost functions in the same position (controllability). It is worth mentioning that the study of the optimal location of actuator/sensor patches pair is carried out for different boundary conditions of a sandwich plate such as simply supported and clamped boundary conditions.
