  • Due to high permeability of the ferrite core, the characteristics of the ICP are expected to be greatly improved. We investigated the effect of the ferrite cores on conventional inductively coupled plasma. It was observed that the current and voltage in ike ICP antenna are slightly decreased and the power transfer efficiency is increased. However, due to eddy current and hysterisis loss, plasma density in the ICP with the ferrite cores is not increased. It seems that the ICP with the ferrite cores at low frequency (${\~}$100kHz) will be greatly improved since the losses at the low frequency can be negligible.

  • Fiber Bragg gratings (FBGs) are the most compact and reliable method of suppressing atmospheric emission lines in the infrared for ground-based telescopes. It has been proved that real FBGs based filters were able to eliminate 63 bright sky lines with minimal interline losses in 2011 (GNOSIS). Inscribing FBGs on multi-core fibers offers advantages. Compared to arrays of individual SMFs, the multi-core fiber Bragg grating (MCFBG) is greatly reduced in size, resistant to damage, simple to fabricate, and easy to taper into a photonics lantern (PRAXIS). Multi-mode fibers should be used and the number of modes has to be large enough to capture a sufficient amount of light from the telescope. However, the fiber Bragg gratings can only be inscribed in the single-mode fiber. A photonic lantern bi-directionally converts multi-mode to single-mode. The number of cores in MCFBGs corresponds to the mode. For a writing system consisting of a single ultra-violet (UV) laser and phase mask, the standard writing method is insufficient to produce uniform MCFBGs due to the spatial variations of the field at each core within the fiber. Most significant technical challenges are consequences of the side-on illumination of the fiber. Firstly, the fiber cladding acts as a cylindrical lens, narrowing the incident beam as it passes through the air-cladding interface. Consequently, cores receive reduced or zero illumination, while the focusing induces variations in the power at those that are exposed. The second effect is the shadowing of the furthest cores by the cores nearest to the light source. Due to a higher refractive index of cores than the cladding, diffraction occurs at each core-cladding interface as well as cores absorb the light. As a result, any core that is located directly behind another in the beam path is underexposed or exposed to a distorted interference pattern from what phase mask originally generates. Technologies are discussed to overcome the problems and recent experimental results are presented as well as simulation results.

  • The core loss of $3\%$ SiFe is strongly dependent on silicon content, impurities, permeability, and domain structure of the SiFe. Domain refining has been proved to be very good method for reduction of core loss in high permeability grain oriented SiFe, and laser scribing is well-blown as an effective and industrially important method of domain refinement. In this work, magnetic domain refinement has been carried out by using a pulsed Nd : YAG laser, and the core losses have been measured and analyzed to and optimal parameters of the laser treatment. The laser hem was focused with a spot size of $100{\mu}m$ and pulse energy of 10${\~}$35mJ and the lines were scribed with a period of ${\~}$5mm. The core loss was improved up to $17\%$ with 30 ns-Nd : YAG laser beam in $3\%$ SiFe.

  • Recently, the leak of domestic core technology of major business in Korea and the subsequent damage, has been increasing every year. Financial losses due to this leak are estimated to be about 220 trillion, which is equivalent to the gross budget of Korea Besides, the majority of the leaks are caused by former and current staff members, cooperated businesses, scientists and invesment companies. This shows that the source of the leaks are internal personnel. In this manner, we can infer that the management and plan of personnel security has not implemented sound practices to prevent technology leak by people. Therefore, this thesis suggests classifying methods of technology leak through clustering, one of the data mining methods about the information of internal personnel to prevent core technology leak from businesses.

  • Experimental studies were conducted on a l/5.03 scale reactor flow model of the Yong-gwang Nuclear Units 3 and 4. The purpose of the flow model test was to estimate the hydraulic effect in the reactor vessel due to the relative size difference between the ABB-CE's System 80 and the YGN 3&4 reactors. The flow model was designed according to the principle of similarity. Obtained from the test were the core inlet flow distribution, the core exit pressure deviations, and the segmental and overall pressure losses across the flow path from the reactor vessel inlet to outlet nozzle. These data will be used to provide input data for the core thermal margin analysis and to verify the analytical hydraulic design method.

  • Multi-dimensionality in the inner working of core-collapse supernovae has long been considered one of the most important ingredients to understand the explosion mechanism. We perform a series of numerical experiments to explore how rotation impacts the 3-dimensional hydrodynamics of core-collapse supernova. We employ a light-bulb scheme to trigger explosions and a three-species neutrino leakage scheme to treat deleptonization effects and neutrino losses from the neutron star interior. We find that the rotation can help the onset of neutrino-driven explosions for models in which the initial angular momentum is matched to that obtained from recent stellar evolutionary calculations (${\sim}0.3-3rad\;s^{-1}$ at the center). For models with larger initial angular momenta, a shock surface deforms to be oblate due to larger centrifugal force. This makes a gain region, in which matter gains energy from neutrinos, more concentrated around the equatorial plane. As a result, the preferred direction of the explosion in 3-dimensional rotating models is perpendicular to the spin axis, which is in sharp contrast to the polar explosions around the axis that are often obtained from 2-dimensional simulations.

  • Universal motors are mainly used for vacuum cleaner application. There are a lot of researches on SRM that applys home appliance throughout the world. The manufacturing cost of SRM drive makes it hard to expand its application to home appliance. This paper presents Single Phase SRM for the vacuum cleaner that has advantge in cost and performance over conventional universal motor. This paper proposes new power device driving scheme by using SRM switching characteristic. The driving scheme is very simple and inexpensive. Dwell Time Control method is used for the minimum switching loss of power device. The switching frequency of power device is less than 4.5kHz at 45,000rpm. By use of this scheme, power device based on very small switching losses can be used on SRM drive. Also, the biggest problem in single phase SRM is starting, this paper shows a new starting algorithm with two hall sensors, accelerating and running sensors, respectively. Finally, the proposed Single Phase SRM achieves higher efficiency and long life time compared to universal motor. Its life time is more than 1500 hours. Its life time is extended 4 times than that of conventional motor and its suction power is increased $20\%$ at the same volume of conventional universal motor.

  • 22.9kV 50MVA HTS power cable has been developed and tested by Korea Electrotechnology Research Institute and LS Cable Company and it was supported by a grant from Center for Applied Superconductivity Technology of the 21st Century Frontier R&D Program. In this paper, DC Ic of 100m HTS cable which is installed at Kochang testing station was measured and analyzed. A measurement technique of DC Ic used by resistance and inductance removal method is established. The HTS power cable is composed of 2 layers for transmission and 1 layer for shield. For the analysis of AC losses in an HTS power cable, 2-dimensional numerical calculation was carried out to define the magnetic field distribution. We calculated the magnetization losses in the HTS core of that cable from these fields. These calculated results are in accordance with those of experiment.

  • The boost converter is usually used in power factor correction. The dynamic losses of its output diode are produced during the reverse recovery time. The power efficiency is decreased due to the losses and also it generates the noise. These disadvantages have been remarkably improved by ZCS and ZVS techniques of power factor improvement circuit. Some benefits lead to the achievement of higher power density and the development cost can be decreased. In this paper work, the reverse recovery suppression(RS) PFC method is used. A inductor and a diode are added into the conventional circuit. The switching device, MOSFET is turned off after the reverse recovery current has come to the zero level. The Zero Current Switching(ZCS) is implemented at that time. This power conversion technique improves the efficiency to about 1% and reduces the noise obviously. And the additional inductor can be designed using an original filter core in the circuit. The converter size is reduced effectively.

  • High speed brushless permanent magnet(PM) machines need a key technology to minimize the iron core losses in stator and the eddy current losses in the retained sleeve and magnets caused by slotting harmonics. Thus, slotless or iron-coreless brushless PM machines have been applied for a very high rotational speed and/or the ripple-free torque. Unfortunately, slotless or coreless PM machines have lower open-circuit field than slotted and/or iron-cored types, which cause to reduce power density. Fortunately, Halbach array can generate the strong magnetic field systems without additional magnetic materials. In this paper, the 4-pole Halbach array is applied to the high speed machine and is compared with the radial magnetized PM array in field system. The iron-/air-cored stator of PM machine is constructed with/without winding slots. Open circuit magnetic fields of each type are presented from the analytical method and finite element method. Consequently, it is confirmed that the Halbach array field system with slotless stator is more suitable to the high speed motor because it has high flux density, sinusoidal flux distribution than others.
