  • A new type of buckling-restrained braces (BRBs) with a longitudinally profiled steel plate working as the core (LPBRB) is proposed and experimentally investigated. Different from conventional BRBs with a constant thickness core, both stiffness and strength of the longitudinally profiled steel core along its longitudinal direction can change through itself variable thickness, thus the construction of LPBRB saves material and reduces the processing cost. Four full-scale component tests were conducted under quasi-static cyclic loading to evaluate the seismic performance of LPBRB. Three stiffening methods were used to improve the fatigue performance of LPBRBs, which were bolt-assembled T-shaped stiffening ribs, partly-welded stiffening ribs and stiffening segment without rib. The experimental results showed LPBRB specimens displayed stable hysteretic behavior and satisfactory seismic property. There was no instability or rupture until the axial ductility ratio achieved 11.0. Failure modes included the out-of-plane buckling of the stiffening part outside the restraining member and core plate fatigue fracture around the longitudinally profiled segment. The effect of the stiffening methods on the fatigue performance is discussed. The critical buckling load of longitudinally profiled segment is derived using Euler theory. The local bulging behavior of the outer steel tube is analyzed with an equivalent beam model. The design recommendations for LPBRB are presented finally.

  • $CaCO_{3}$ absorbed sodium lauryl sulfate (SLS) surfactant was prepared, Core-shell polymers of inorganic/organic pair, which have both core and shell component, were synthesized by sequential emulsion polymerization using styrene(St) as a shell monomer and potasium persulfate (KPS) as an initiator, We found that when $CaCO_{3}$; core prepared by adding 2,0 wt% SLS, $CaCO_{3}$ core/PSt shell polymerization was carried out on the surface of $CaCO_{3}$ particle without forming the new PSt particle during St shell polymerization in the inorganic/organic core-shell polymer preparation, The structure of core-shell polymer were investigated by measuring the degree of decomposition of $CaCO_{3}$ using HCl solution, thermal decomposition of polymer composite using thermogravimetric analyzer and morphology by scanning electron microscope.

  • Conventional buckling restrained braces used in concentrically braced frames are expected to yield in both tension and compression without major degradation of capacity under severe seismic ground motions. One of the weakness points of a standard buckling restrained braced frame is the low post-yield stiffness and thus large residual deformation under moderate to severe ground motions. This phenomenon can be attributed to low post-yield stiffness of core member in a BRB. This paper introduces a multi-core buckling restrained brace. The multi-core term arises from the use of more than one core component with different steel materials, including high-performance steel (HPS-70W) and stainless steel (304L) with high strain hardening properties. Nonlinear dynamic time history analyses were conducted on variety of diagonally braced frames with different heights, in order to compare the seismic performance of regular and multi-core buckling restrained braced frames. The results exhibited that the proposed multi-core buckling restrained braces reduce inter-story and especially residual drift demands in BRBFs. In addition, the results of seismic fragility analysis designated that the probability of exceedance of residual drifts in multi-core buckling restrained braced frames is significantly lower in comparison to standard BRBFs.

  • This study endeavors to delineate the essential components of digital preservation policies requisite for data repositories. Drawing from an examination of digital preservation policies from data repositories accredited by CoreTrustSeal in 2023, this study unveils the pivotal components intrinsic to a digital preservation policy framework, subsequently elucidating the content each component encompasses. The proffered framework is anticipated to serve as a foundational reference for institutions aiming to craft their digital preservation policies, transcending the confines of those solely pursuing CoreTrustSeal certification, to encompass both domestic and international institutions irrespective of their intent to seek CoreTrustSeal certification.

  • In eukaryotes, small RNAs play important roles in both gene regulation and resistance to viral infection. Argonaute proteins have been identified as a key component of the effector complexes of various RNA-silencing pathways, but the mechanistic roles of Argonaute proteins in these pathways are not clearly understood. To address this question, we performed single-molecule fluorescence experiments using an RNA-induced silencing complex (core-RISC) composed of a small RNA and human Argonaute 2. We found that target binding of core-RISC starts at the seed region of the guide RNA. After target binding, four distinct reactions followed: target cleavage, transient binding, stable binding, and Argonaute unloading. Target cleavage required extensive sequence complementarity and accelerated core-RISC dissociation for recycling. In contrast, the stable binding of core-RISC to target RNAs required seed-match only, suggesting a potential explanation for the seed-match rule of microRNA (miRNA) target selection.

  • For the design to prevent the saturation of the iron core and the effective fault current limitation, the analysis for the operation of the flux-lock type superconducting fault current limiter (SFCL) with consideration for the hysteresis characteristics of the iron core is required. In this paper, the hysteresis characteristics of the flux-lock reactor, which is an essential component of the flux-lock type SFCL, were investigated. Under normal condition, the hysteresis loss of the iron core in the flux-lock type SFCL does not happen due to its winding structure. From the equivalent circuit for the flux-lock type SFCL and the fault current limiting experiments, the hysteresis curves could be drawn. From the analysis for both the hysteresis curves and the fault current limiting characteristics due to the number of turns for the 1st and 2nd windings, the increase of the number of turns in the 2nd winding of the flux-lock type SFCL had a role to prevent the iron core from saturation.

  • A new polymer technology commercialized with the name of Core Shell has been developed by Ondeo Nalco Company. Laboratory evaluations have demonstrated that Core Shell polymers produce a floc with high shear resistance, making them the flocculants of choice for modern high-speed paper machines. Core Shell polymers provide significant papermaking benefits, when used as single component or in combination with microparticles. At this time, the new program has been successfully applied on more than 60 paper and board machines across the world. Implementation of Core Shell polymers with or without a microparticle provided better and more stable retention values and improvements in paper quality, system cleanliness and machine runnability.

  • Coolant flow distribution to the assemblies and core coolant/component temperatures should be determined in LMR core steady state thermal-hydraulic performance analysis. Sodium flow is distributed to core assemblies with the overall goal of equalizing the peak cladding midwall temperatures for the peak temperature pin of each pin bundle, thus pin cladding damage accrual and pin reliability. The flow orificing analysis for conceptual design will be performed with Excel spreadsheet program ORFCE which was set up and tested, using the calibration factors based on available analyses data. For the verification of this program, flow orificing calculation for the MDP 840MWth core was performed. The calculational results are satisfactory compared to those of CRIEPI calculation.
