Cu-Cr alloy thin film requires good quality of etching be used for TAB technology. The etched cross sec-tion was clean enough when the etching was performed in 0.1M $FeCl_3$ solution at $50^{\circ}C$. The etching rate was increased with the amount of $KMnO_4$. For enhanced profile of cross section and rate, the spray etchning was found to be superior compared to the immersion etching. A series of experiments were performed to improve the uniformity of the current distribution in electrodeposition onto the substrate with lithographic patterns. Copper was electrodeposited from quiescent-solution, paddle-agitated-solution, and air-bubbled-solution to in-vestigate the effect of the fluid flow. The thickness profile of the specimen measured by profilmetry has the non uniformity at feature scale in quiescent-solution, because of the longitudinal vortex roll caused by the natural convection. However, uniform thickness profile was achieved in paddle-agitated or air bubbled solu-tion.
In this paper, an investigation of a room temperature active magnetic regenerative refrigerator is carried out. Experimental apparatus includes two active magnetic regenerators containing 186 g of Gd spheres. Four E-type thermocouples are installed inside the Active magnetic regenerator(AMR) to observe the instantaneous temperature variation of AMR. Both warm and cold heat exchangers are designed for large temperature span. The cold heat exchanger, which separates the two AMRs, employs a copper tube with length of 80 mm and diameter of 6.35 mm. In order to minimize dead volume between the warm heat exchanger and AMRs, the warm heat exchangers are located close to the AMRs. The deionized water is used as a heat transfer fluid, and maximum 1.4 T magnetic field is supplied by Halbach array of permanent magnets. The AMR plate, which contains the warm and the cold heat exchangers and the AMRs, has reciprocating motion using a linear actuator and each AMR is alternatively magnetized and demagnetized by a Halbach array of permanent magnet. Since the gap of the Halbach array of permanent magnets is 25 mm and two warm heat exchangers have the motion through it, a compact printed circuit heat exchanger (PCHE) is used as a warm heat exchanger. A maximum no-load temperature span of 26.8 K and a maximum cooling power of 33 W are obtained from the fabricated Active Magnetic Regenerative Refrigerator (AMRR).
A high-power Nb:glass laser system(Simmyung I) has been contructed and tested. In this system, we used a Nb:YLF laser as a master oscillator, a 4-pass amplifier for pre-amplification, 5 stages of rod amplifiers, and spatial filtering and image reaying usits. The system has demonstrated in excess of 80J(2TW) with 40 psec(FWHM) pulse duration. Output energy, gain and spatial were measured at each amplification stage. With this laser system a preliminary X-ray generation experiment was performed. Pinhole images, X-ray diode signals and X-ray speriment were obtained for the irradiated target of copper. Detailed descriptions of the system performance and the X-tay generation experiment are presented.
Effect of welding parameters such as current, speed and electrode pressure on the weld quality of tin coated steels for small containers was discussed in this paper. Welding was performed with low frequency wire seam welding system which was loaded with 1.5mm in diameter copper wire electrode. The welding parameters were monitored at the position close to the welding spot so as to minimize the instrumentation error, and the signals were stored into a digital data acquisition system before analysis. Results showed that critical current for sufficient nugget size increased as the base material thickness increased, while the width of the optimum welding range was reduced. The acceptable welding condition derived from this study was found to be effective within the thickness range of $\pm$10% of the nominal (0.25mm) thickness. Tin coating layer was proved not to affect seriously on the weld quality, i.e. strength and formability, since consumable wire electrode was used in this process. Test results also demonstrated that the welding current was thought to be the most effective parameter to form an acceptable weld, while welding speed or electrode pressure exerted less effect on the nugget formation. However, these two parameters played an important role because the former was related to the nugget overlap interval, and the latter, to the formation of expulsion during welding.
This study concerns the performance of condensing heat transfer in two-phase closed thermosyphons with various helical grooves. Distilled water, methanol, ethanol have been used as the working fluid. In the present work, a copper tube of the length of 1200mm and 14.28mm of inside diameter is used as the container of the thermosyphon. Each of the evaporator and the condenser section has a length of 550mm, while the remaining part of the thermosyphon tube is adiabatic section. A experimental study was carried out for analyzing the performances of having 50, 60, 70, 80, 90 helical grooves. A plain thermosyphon having the same inner and outer diameter as the grooved thermosyphons is also tested for the comparison. The type of working fluid and the numbers of grooves of the thermosyphons with various helical grooves have been used as the experimental parameters. The experimental results have been assessed and compared with existing theories. The results show that the type of working fluids are very important factors for the operation of thermosyphons. And the maximum enhancement (i.e. the ratio of the heat transfer coefficients the helical thermosyphons to plain thermosyphons) is $1.5{\sim}2$ for condensation.
The Arctic consists of numerous sedimentary basins containing voluminous natural resources and two of the world's major oil and gas producing areas. The western Siberia Basin in the Arctic region has the largest petroliferous province with an area of 800 ${\times}$ 1,200 km and produces more than 60% of total Russian oil production. The North Slope of Alaska produces about 20% of the U.S. output, i.e., 11% of the total U.S. consumption. Being small compared to those regions, the Canadian Northwest Territories and the Pechora Basin in Russia produce only fair amount of oil and natural gas. There are also many promising areas in the northern continental shelf of Russia. In addition to Russia, Svalbard and Greenland have been investigated for oil and gas. Gas hydrates are widespread in both permafrost regions and arctic continental shelf areas. The reserves of gas hydrates in the Arctic Ocean are about 20${\sim}$32% of total estimated amounts of gas hydrates in the world ocean. Mineral mining is well developed, especially in Russia. The major centers are located around the Kuznetsk Basin and Noril'sk. They are major suppliers of gold, tin, nickel, copper, platinum, cobalt, iron ore, coal as well as apatite. There are also some minings of lead-zinc in Alaska and Arctic Canada.
Recovery of valuable metals in the industrial wastewater and sludge has attracted an attention owing to limited metallic resources in the earth. In this study, we firstly fabricated Ti/Ir-Ru electrodes by spin coating technique for effective recovery of Cu in electrowinning process. Two different Ti/Ir-Ru electrodes were fabricated using 100 and 500 mM of precursors (i.e., Ir-Ru). SEM-EDX and AFM revealed that Ir and Ru were homogenously distributed on the surface of Ti plate by the spin coating, in particular the electrode prepared by 500 mM showed distinct boundary line between Ir-Ru layer and Ti substrate. XRD, XPS, and cyclic voltammetry also revealed that characteristics of IrO2, RuO2, and TiO2 and its electrocatalytic property increased as the concentration of coating precursor increased. Finally, we carried out Cu recovery experiments using two Ti/Ir-Ru as anodes in electrowinning process, showing that both anodes showed a complete removal of Cu (1 and 10 g/L) within 6 h reaction, but much higher kinetic rate constant was obtained by the anode prepared by 500 mM. The findings in this study can provide a fundamental knowledge for surface characteristics of Ti/Ir-Ru electrode prepared by spin coating method and its potential feasibility for effective electrowinning process.
The effect of organic additives, 1-(3-sulfoproyl)-2-vinylpyridineium hydroxide (SVH) and thiourea (TU), on the precision copper electrodeposition was investigated with optical, electrochemical and x-ray diffraction techniques. It was found that SVH played a r ole as a n accelerator and TU as an i nhibitor during the electroreduction of cupric ions in acidic Cu electroplating solution. Through electrochemical measurements, TU showed more strong interaction with cupric ions than SVH and dominated overall Cu electroplating process when both additives were present in the solution. In the case of three dimensional Cu electrodeposition on the 20 ${\mu}m$-patterned Ni substrates, SVH controlled the upright growth of Cu electrodeposits and so determined its flatness, while TU prohibited the lateral spreading of Cu in the course of pulse-reverse pulse current adaptation. With microscopic observation, we obtained the optimum organic additives composition, that is, 100 ppm SVH and 200 ppm TU during the current pulsation.
The activated carbon "C" was obtained by carbonization followed by activation with steam at 40% of burn-off. Oxidized carbons C-N, C-P and C-H were obtained by oxidizing the activated carbon C with concentrated nitric acid, ammonium peroxysulfate and hydrogen peroxide, respectively. The textural properties of the carbons were determined from nitrogen adsorption at 77 K. The acidic surface functional groups were determined by pH titration, base neutralization capacity and electrophoretic mobility measurements. The cation exchange capacities of un-oxidized and oxidized carbons were determined by the removal of Cu(II) and Ni(II) from their aqueous solutions. The surface area and the total pore volume decreased but the pore radius increased by the treatment of activated carbon with oxidizing agents. These changes were more pronounced in case of oxidation with $HNO_3$. The surface pH of un-oxidized carbon was basic whereas those of the oxidized derivative were acidic. The removal of Cu(II) and Ni(II) was pH dependent and the maximum removal of the both ions was obtained at pH of 5-6. Cu(II) was more adsorbed, a phenomenon which was ascribed to its particular electronic configuration.
This study is focused on the comparison between the internal saturation temperature of the working fluid and the surface temperature of adiabatic zone of two-phase closed thermosyphons with various helical grooves. Distilled water, methanol and ethanol have been used as the working fluid. In the present work, a copper tube of the length of 1200mm and 14.28mm of inside diameter is used as the container of the thermosyphon. A experimental study was carried out for analyzing the performances of having 50, 60, 70, 80, 90 helical grooves. A plain thermosyphon having the same inner and outer diameter as the grooved thermosyphons is also tested for the comparison. The results show that the numbers of grooves and the type of working fluids are very important factors for the operation of thermosyphons. A good agreement between the internal saturation temperature of working fluid and the surface temperature of adiabatic zone of two-phase closed thermosyphons with various helical grooves is obtained.
