  • Recently, network infrastructure has evolved into a BizTech agile autonomous network to cope with the dynamic changes in the service environment. This survey presents the expectations from two different perspectives of the harmonization of network and artificial intelligence (AI) technologies. First, the paper focuses on the possibilities of AI technology for the autonomous network industry. Subsequently, it discusses how networks can play a role in the evolution of distributed AI technologies.

  • Fuzzy logic is applied to a roll autopilot for missiles. Fuzzy rules are made so that the response duplicates that of the conventional control law for some flight condition. A scaling factor of the fuzzy controller is then scheduled by the missile velocity and altitude information to cope with the variation of the roll dynamics from that flight condition. By computer simulations and calculation of the stability margin, it is shown that the fuzzy control is robuster than the conventional one over the flight envelope even though two control laws work similarly for some flight conditions.

  • A recursive on-line algorithm with orthogonal ARMA identification is proposed for linear MIMO systems with unknown parameters, time delay, and order. This algorithm is based on the Gram-Schmidt orthogonalization of basis functions, and extended to a recursive form by using new functions of two dimensional autocorrelations and cross-correlations of inputs and outputs. The proposed algorithm can also cope with slowly time-varying or order-varying systems. Various simulations reveal the performance of the algorithm.

  • This paper presents a method of controlling contact force for deburring tasks. The cope with the nonlinearities and time-varying properties of the robot and the environment, a neural network control theory is applied to design the contact force control system. We show that the contact force between the hand and the contacting surface can be controlled by adjusting the command velocity of a robot hand, which is accomplished by the modeling of a robot and the environment as Mass-Spring-Damper system. Simulation results are shown.

  • A neural controller for process control is proposed that combines a conventional multi-loop PID controller with a neural network. The concept of target signal based on feedback error is used fur on-line learning of the neural network. This controller is applied to distillation column control to illustrate its effectiveness. The result shows that the proposed neural controller can cope well with disturbance, strong interactions, time delays without any prior knowledge of the process.

  • In the conventional reinforced-concrete bridge deck, concrete and steels are likely to be deteriorated and corroded under the influence of noxious environment. To cope with these problems caused in the conventional reinforced-concrete bridge deck, pultruded composite bridge deck, called Delta Deck, is developed. In this paper, local deflection and fatigue characteristics of Delta Deck for DB24 truck load are evaluated through analysis and experiments.

  • A remote drum grappling device coupled to the anti-swing crane has been developed by KAERI to cope with problems involved in manually treating low level waste drums. In order for this grappling device to be operated effectively, multi-sensors including CCD camera were employed. As an activity representation scheme of the device, Extended State Machine (ESM) was used to descibe its operation sequences. The performance testing of the device was conducted successfully, and consequently its application could be extendable to industrial operation environment.

  • Adaptive memory management is a serious issue in data stream management. Data stream differ from the traditional stored relational model in several aspect such as the stream arrives online, high volume in size, skewed data distributions. Data skew is a common property of massive data streams. We propose the predicted allocation strategy, which uses predictive processing to cope with time varying data skew. This processing includes memory usage estimation and indexing with timestamp. Our experimental study shows that the predictive strategy reduces both required memory space and latency time for skewed data over varying time.
