  • In this study, effects of refrigerant and oil charges on the performance of a refrigeration system simulating an automobile air conditioner have been experimentally investigated using R134a and PAG oil. Measurements were taken in a breadboard type refrigeration test unit with a compressor used for a commercial automobile air-conditioner under a set of condition imposed upon normally to automobile air conditioners. Both the COP and capacity decreased rapidly as the oil charge increased because of the decrease in vapor pressure of the circulating refrigerant/oil mixture. The excess oil left in the evaporator also caused heat transfer degradation resulting in a decrease in capacity and in turn COP. It was found that there is an optimum refrigerant charge at which the COP becomes the maximum. Below this optimum charge, both the capacity and COP increased as the refrigerant charge increased and above the optimum charge, both of them remained almost constant. Hence, the COP seems to be the most important factor in determining the optimum refrigerant charge. When the system was undercharged, the refrigerant at the condenser exit lost subcooling and showed a sign of poor miscibility.

  • This paper describes an analysis on performance and exergy of R744-R404A cascade refrigeration system with internal heat exchanger to optimize the design for the operating parameters of this system. The operating parameters considered in this study include subcooling and superheating degree, internal heat exchanger and compression efficiency, evaporation and condensation temperature in the R744 low- and R404A high- temperature cycle, respectively. The main results are summarized as follows : As the evaporation temperature of cascade heat exchanger increases, the COP of R404A high-temperature cycle increases. But the COP of R744 low-temperature cycle decreases, and the COP of total cascade cycle is almost constant. As cascade evaporation temperature increase, the exergy loss in the R404A condenser and the R744 internal heat exchanger is the largest and the lowest among all components, respectively. Therefore, the exergy loss in the condenser and compressor of R404A must be decreased to enhance the COP of R744-R404A cascade refrigeration system.

  • High-heeled women have been identified with balance control problems. The purposes of this study were to objectively quantify the displacements and velocities of center-of-pressure (COP) of body during waist pulling and to compare the differences between barefooted and high-heeled situations. We used a waist pulling system which has three different magnitudes to sway the subjects. We found that the kinematic information of barefooted and high-heeled women's COP is very important in understanding the mechanism of postural balance control of women in every-day life. In the high-heeled's case, the displacement of COP increases in 200% as against bare footed. Also the velocity variation of COP grows three times than the bare footed. COP analysis in postural balance study of high-heeled women is also considered useful in development of the safety systems that prevent high-heeled women from falling

  • Polyurethane foams were synthesized by substituting a portion of petroleum base polyether polyol with castor oil-derived polyol(COP). Contact angle tester and surface tensionmeter were used to examine the compatibility of petroleum base polyether polyol and COP. To investigate the optimum content of COP and surfactant, the content of COP has been changed from 0 wt% to 80 wt%. From the results of polyurethane foams synthesized by surfactant L-580K, DC-5950 and BF-2470, the best mechanical properties was observed when the content of COP was 30wt% and surfactant BF-2470.

  • PURPOSE: The progression of the center of pressure (COP) velocity of the stance phase may have important roles for predicting gait speed in older adults with cognitive decline. This study was conducted to identify the correlation between gait speed and the velocity of COP progression during the stance phase in older adults with cognitive decline. METHODS: Forty adults aged 65 years or older (twenty participants without cognitive decline, 20 participants with cognitive decline) were recruited. The COP progression velocity was measured using an F-scan pressure-sensitive insole system. The stance phase was divided into four sub-stages. (loading response, mid-stance, terminal stance, and pre-swing). Gait speed, double support phase, and cadence were also measured. Correlations and multiple regression analyses were performed. RESULTS: Gait speed was associated with the COP progression velocity in midstance (r = .719, p < .05), cadence (r = .719, p < .05) and the COP progression velocity in loading response velocity (r = .515, p < .05) in older adults with cognitive decline. However, no correlation was found in older adults without cognitive decline. In multiple regression analysis using gait speed as a dependent variable, the COP progression velocity in midstance and cadence were significant predictors of gait speed, with the COP progression velocity being the most significant predictor. CONCLUSION: The COP progression velocity is an important factor for predicting gait speed in older adults with cognitive decline, suggesting that the cognitive function influences gait speed and the velocity of COP progression.

  • In this paper, cycle performance analysis of cascade refrigeration system using alternative FREON refrigerants and natural refrigerants are presented to offer the basic design data for the operating parameters of the system. The operating parameters considered in this study include subcooled and superheated degree, and condensing and evaporating temperature, temperature difference of cascade heat exchanger in cascade refrigeration system. The COP of cascade refrigeration system increases with the increasing subcooled degree, but there is no significant changes with the increasing superheated degree. The COP of cascade refrigeration system depends on evaporating and condensing temperatures of cascade heat exchanger. Therefore, subcooled degree, evaporating and condensing temperature of cascade heat exchanger using alternative FREON refrigerants and natural refrigerants have an effect on the COP of this system. In this paper, COP of cascade refrigeration system using (R23 / R290), (R23 / R600), (R23 / R600a), (R23 / R717), (R744 / R404A) are higher 20 ~ 36 % than (R23 / R22), using R23 for low temperature system and R22 for high temperature system.

  • Objective: The purpose of this study was to investigate the effects of three rotational jump conditions (standing jump, left rotational jump and right rotational jump) on stability through center of pressure (COP) and EMG variables analysis. Method: A total of 16 college students (age: 24.13 ± 7.17 years, height: 169.24 ± 8.23 cm, weight: 65.65 ± 13.88 kg) participated in this study. The study used wireless two COP plates and wireless eight channel EMG. The analyized variables were 11 variables for COP and RMS for EMG, which were analyzed using one-way analysis of variance with repeated measures according to three rotational jump conditions. Results: Among the COP variables, left rotational jump (LRJ) and right rotational jump (RRJ) were larger than standing jump (SJ) for left and right amplitude, area, total displacement, and average velocity for both feet among the variables of COP, and for area of the left foot, RRJ was larger than that of SJ. Among the EMG variables, there was no statistical difference between the muscle activations, but the muscle activity was significantly higher in the order of RRJ, LRJ, and SJ according to direction of rotation. Conclusion: Although the results of COP and EMG were not consistent through this study, it can be expected that the differences in COP was due to the amount of rotation during rotational jump-landing in the left and right directions, and that the EMG is determined by the lateral movements required for rotation.

  • In order to utilize the condensation heat of refrigerants in condenser on the absorption chiller system, the solution cooled condenser (SCC) was proposed using the weak solution of absorber as a cooling medium. The increase of COP with the increase of UA of the solution cooled condenser was approximately 0.009 in maximum with single effect one, and is about maximum 0.008 in occasion of double effect one with series flow compared to that without. In the case of heat exchanger, effectiveness is about 0.85, it's increments are 0.008 and 0.0072, respectively. And solution cooled condenser is more effective device in the single effect absorption system than double effect system for the principle of operation. On the other hand, as the solution split ratio increases when the value of UA is fixed, COP is increased and as the solution split ratio increases when the value of UA is fixed, COP is increased. If the flow rate of cooling water or the value of UA is reduced in order to increases the heat recovery of solution cooled condenser, heat recovery of solution cooled condenser is increased a little but COP is decreased as the system pressure is increased.

  • In this paper, it is proposed that the effects of simulator sickness due to scene movement in ship handling simulator can be measured by using center of pressure (COP) and a simulator sickness questionnaire (SSQ). For experiments of simulator sickness, twelve participants are exposed to scenes movement from ship handling simulator according to three steps of sea states. During experiments, COPs for subjects are measured by force plate. After exposure to scenes movement, subjects describe their sickness symptoms by answering the SSQ. Throughput analysing the results of scene movement, SSQ, and COP, the relation between the simulator sickness and COP is investigated. It is suggested that formulations for SSQ score and COP with respect to sea state are obtained by the curve fitting technique, and the longitudinal COP can be used for measuring the simulator sickness.

  • This study derives essential information elements that should be shared in the situation board by utilizing the concept of common operating picture (COP). The COP's concept and actual overseas cases were confirmed, and COP information elements that should be considered for disaster situations were redefined. The COP disaster response information elements were derived by analyzing the standard manual for disaster response and daily situation reports issued in Korea. The information elements were divided into four stages (①Report reception and recognition stages, ②Situation propagation and reporting stages, ③Emergency equipment operation stages, ④Recovery and recovery stages), centered on storm and flood damage. Further analysis of the detailed information elements was conducted to derive the information elements that must be shared in the context board. The information is shared along with spatial and geographical characteristics due to the characteristics of the COP, providing complex information to decisionmakers and officials, enabling diverse access to disaster situations. Furthermore, it is expected that disaster response will be more efficient by sharing the information in common.
