  • This paper deals with optimal voltage regulation methods of line voltage regulator(SVR : Step Voltage Regulator) in power distribution systems. In order to deliver suitable voltages to as many customers as possible, the optimal sending voltage of SVR should be decided by the effective operation of voltage regulators at the distribution feeders and substations. In this paper, a new voltage regulation method based on the existing method is presented and an optimal coordination method of multiple voltage regulators is extended. The results from a case study show that the proposed methods can be a practical tool for the voltage regulation in distribution systems.

  • In contrast with the Finite Element Method, the Discrete Element Method (DEM) takes explicitly into account the particulate nature of powders. DEM exhibits some drawbacks and many advantages. Simulations can be computationally expensive and they are only able to represent a volume element. However, these simulations have the great advantage of providing a wealth of information at the microstructural level. Here we demonstrate that the method is well suited for modelling, in coordination with FEM, the compaction of ceramic $UO_2$ particles that have been aggregated. Aggregates of individual ceramic crystallites that are strongly bonded together are represented by porous spheres.

A topological optimization method for flexible multi-body dynamic system using epsilon algorithm

  • In a flexible multi-body dynamic system the typical topological optimization method for structures cannot be directly applied, as the stiffness varies with position. In this paper, the topological optimization of the flexible multi-body dynamic system is converted into structural optimization using the equivalent static load method. First, the actual boundary conditions of the control system and the approximate stiffness curve of the mechanism are obtained from a flexible multi-body dynamical simulation. Second, the finite element models are built using the absolute nodal coordination for different positions according to the stiffness curve. For efficiency, the static reanalysis method is utilized to solve these finite element equilibrium equations. Specifically, the finite element equilibrium equations of key points in the stiffness curve are fully solved as the initial solution, and the following equilibrium equations are solved using a reanalysis method with an error controlled epsilon algorithm. In order to identify the efficiency of the elements, a non-dimensional measurement is introduced. Finally, an improved evolutional structural optimization (ESO) method is used to solve the optimization problem. The presented method is applied to the optimal design of a die bonder. The numerical results show that the presented method is practical and efficient when optimizing the design of the mechanism.

Relationship between the Biomechanical Analysis and the Qualitative Analysis of Video Software for the Walking Movement (보행동작에 대한 바이오메카닉스적 분석과 비디오의 정성적 분석의 상호관련성)

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate the relationship between the quantitative analysis of biomechanical movement and the qualitative analysis of video software in order to evaluate for the walking movement. The fourteen collegiate students who agreed with the purpose and method of this study participated as subjects. The slow walking and fast walking of the subjects in the place of experiment were photographed, and calculated several mechanical factors. This empirical evidence from the experiment indicated the significant difference(p<.001) between each distant factors of the walking movement for both analyses methods, but there was no statistically significant difference between the spacial factors observed in the experiment. For more detail, no significant difference between the walking ratios that expressed the coordination between stride length and stride frequency was found. The findings also indicated the high coefficient of correlation(over r=.9) which supports higher explanation force for the biomechanical method and the Dartfish video software method. Therefore, if the data was gathered by using the proper experimental method, the video software method could be used just like the quantitative data of biomechanical method.

  • The major goal of this study is drawing design plan factors considering residents' life cycle and life style when remodeling design is needed. By drawing such design factors, the study will propose an alternative remodeling design plan. Such design method was defined as Multi-Dimensional module design method. And constructing data-system based on Multi-Dimensional module was secondary goal in this study. The details are as follows: Based on analysis of Residents' demand for remodeling and features of emotion-design applied to remodeling, the system which is suitable for application in remodeling design method was conducted. Based on the type of construction materials, the level value was set up according to emotion-factor application. Also, by conducting coding operation according to the distinction of construction materials, this study seeks the unit drawing method of information for constructing emotion-information system.

  • The purpose of this study is to grasp the element and method of traditional expression appeared in hotel lobby spaces, and present the direction of traditional expression applicable to the domestic hotel lobby space. Therefore, this study analyzed traditional expression according to its element and method taken out from the prior researches related to it. Specifically, the element of traditional expressions divided into the element of space organization, the element of structure (bottom, wall, ceiling, window, door and pillar), and the element of decorative design(furniture, illumination, artistic ornament, color, and material). The method of traditional expressions divided into the method of prototype reappearance, prototype transformation, reinterpretation, and abstract. The target of analysis has been 27 hotels designed since 1970s. and described as expressed traditionality in architecture-technical journals and books in the inside and outside of the country. considering these results, it seems that the traditional expressions using more various elements and more various element and methods have to used in domestic hotels. Specifically, when expressing traditionality in the lobby space of domestic hotel, it is important to decided the method expressing traditionality at first, and the traditional expressions using the element of space organization, structure, decorative design, and so based on the method expression traditionality was fulfilled with coordination.

  • Most of protecting security activity is carried out by manpower partly by security equipment. The protecting security market and the area of protecting security activity is increasing in spite of change of economic and social environment situation. For more effective protecting security activity, the coordination of electronic equipment and manpower is required. So some application method is suggested throughout the thesis, which is especially focused on new approaching method. The integration of intrusion detecting system, C.C.TV system and Access control system is introduced for general application in chapter III, and some application systems are proposed for protecting security activity in chapter IV. But the security equipment is only aid for manpower, so manpower and equipment should be coordinated well.

  • This paper proposes an automatic method for generating and 3D draping the skirt 3D models. The method constructs a 3D basic model of the skirts using elliptic cylinder and generates the various skirt 3D models by controlling the ellipses of the basic model. B-Spline approximates the wrinkles around the ellipse for the various 3D draping changing according to designs and textiles. We make some real skirts and investigate appearances for their drapes. This paper simulates their appearances and obtains good results. Furthermore, adaptation of the skirt 3D model to a personal character implements realistic coordination of the various skirts.

  • Increased attention has been given in recent years to the use of pumped hydrostorage plant to meet the requirements for peak generation and bottom pumping. Once a pumped hydrostorage plant is installed, its economic operation as an integral component of a steam generating system requires the selection of a pumping and generating schedule which will result in the most effective use of the hydro generating capacity. The general object of coordination of pumped hydrostorage plants with electric power system is the minimization of the overall procduction cost and the maximization of generation reserves. This paper presents a method for the optimal scheduling of pumped hydrostorage plant and a computer program which determines weekly operating schedules for a pumped hydrostorage plant by dynamic programming method.
