  • The present work is an attempt to calculate the steady state pressure and perturbed pressure of herringbone grooved journal bearings. A generalized coordinate system is introduced to handle the complex bearing geometry. The coordinates are fitted to the groove boundary and the Reynold's equation is transformed to be fitted to this coordinate system using the Gauss divergence theorem. This method makes it possible to deal with an arbitrary configuration of a lubricated surface. The caharacteristics of finite herringbone groove journal bearing are well calculated using this method.

  • The previous kinematic analysis of wheeled mobile robots(WMRs) is performed in an ad-hoc manner, while those of the robot manipulators are done in a consistent way using the coordinate system assignment and the homogeneous transformation matrix. This paper shows why the method for the robot manipulators cannot be used directly to the WMRs and proposes the method for the WMRs, which contains modeling the wheel with the Sheth-Uicker notation and the homogeneous transformation. The proposed method enable us to model the velocity kinematics of the WMRs in a consistent way. As an implementation of the proposed method, the Jacobian matrices were obtained for conventional steered wheel and non-steered wheel respectively and the forward and inverse velocity kinematic solutions were calculated fur a tricycle typed WMR. We hope that our proposed method comes to hold an equivalent roles for WMRs, as that of the manipulators does for the robot manipulators.

  • The main purpose of this study is to investigate the coordinate transformation based on two different systems between local geodetic datum(tokyo datum) and international geocentric datum(new Korea geodetic datum). For this purpose, three methods were used to determine seven parameters as follows: Bursa-Wolf model, Molodensky-Badekas model, and Veis model. Also, we adopted multiple regression equation method to convert from Tokyo datum to KTRF. We used 935 control points as a common points and applied gross error analysis for detecting the outlier among those control points. The coordinate transformation was carried out using similarity transformation applied the obtained seven parameters and the precision of transformed coordinate was evaluated about 9,917 third or forth order control points. From these results, it was found that Bursa-Wolf model and Molodensky-Badekas model are more suitable than other for the determination of transformation parameters in Korea. And, transforming accuracy using MRE is lower than other similarity transformation model.

  • This paper proposes a novel algorithm to recognize the curve of a structured road. The proposed algorithm uses an LCF (Lane Curve Function) obtained by the transformation of a parabolic function defined on world coordinate into image coordinate. Unlike other existing methods, the algorithm needs no transformation between world coordinate and image coordinate owing to the LCF. In order to search for an LCF describing the lane best, the differential comparison between the slope of an assumed LCF and the phase angle of edge pixels in the LROI (Lane Region Of Interest) constructed by the LCF is implemented. As finding the true LCF, the lane curve is determined. The proposed method is proved to be efficient through various kinds of images, providing the reliable curve direction and the valid curvature compared to the real road.

  • Before GPS is practically used in Kores, we must fix a problem on the coordinate transfomation between WGS 84 and Korean geodetic system based on Bessel ellipsoid. On this article, I investigate various coordinate trans formation methods and review the researched results about the coordinate transformation which have been performed in Korea. With the inspection of which method is more applicable to Korea, I discuss about the future prospect and the fixing way for the problem of domestic coordinate transfomation.

  • A simple and effective dead time compensation scheme for a PWM inverter-fed permanent magnet synchronous motor (PMSM) drive using the model reference adaptive control (MRAC) and coordinate transformation is presented. The basic concept is to first transform a time-varying disturbance caused by the dead time and inverter nonlinearity into unknown constant or slowly-varying one by the coordinate transformation, and then use the MRAC design technique to estimate this parameter in the stationary reference frame. Since the MRAC scheme is a suitable way of estimating such a parameter, the control performance can be significantly improved as compared with the conventional observer-based method tracking time-varying parameters. In the proposed scheme, the disturbance voltage caused by the dead time is effectively estimated and compensated by on-line basis without any additional circuits nor existing disadvantages as in the conventional methods. The asymptotic stability is proved and the effectiveness of the proposed scheme is verified.

  • We research on the coordinate transformation between Korean geodetic system and WGS 1984. We made the wide area an object of our research. This area covers the range of longitude $1^\circ$ 32'and latitude $1^\circ$ 7'and is four times wider than a first stage research published in 1992. For this research, we performed GPS observations at 10 control point (seven astrogeodetic points, three triangulation points) and eight banch marks nearby control points, and then transformed the coordinates of WGS 84 to Korean geodetic system using the 7 parameter method, Molodensky method and MRE method. From this test, we compared the precision of the coordinate transformation by each method and checked which method is more applicable to Korea. We could find that the precision by 7 parameter method is three times better than the other methods and that the coordinate transformation by 7 parameter method is possible with the precision of 0".017, 0".016, 0.329 m in latitude, longitude and height. We could check and correct the height blunder of the control points by the bench marks nearby control point. We also could find the precision of coordinate transformation is more improved by the correction of height blunder.t blunder.

  • This paper proposes a speed variable proportional resonant current control method for a single-phase permanent magnet synchronous motor(PMSM). Due to the electromagnetic characteristics of a single-phase PMSM, negative and zero torques are generated in the part corresponding to the phase difference between the stator current and the back electromotive force. In addition, overcurrent limitation is required because of the low stator resistance and inductance in sensorless operation. When using the vector control for current control of single-phase PMSM under these conditions, processes of coordinate transformation, inverse coordinate transformation, and generation of virtual dq-axis components are required. However, the proposed variable speed proportional resonant current control method does not need the coordinate transformation used for AC motors. In this paper, we have confirmed stable maneuverability by using variable proportional resonant current control algorithm, and proposed sensorless control based on a mathematical model of a single-phase PMSM without a position sensor when reaching a constant speed. The usefulness of the current control method was verified through several experiments.

  • It is well known that the application of the nonlinear coordinate transformations is useful for efficient numerical evaluation of weakly singular integrals. In this paper, we consider the trapezoidal rule combined with a nonlinear transformation $\Omega$$_{m}$(b;$\chi$), containing a parameter b, proposed first by Yun [14]. It is shown that the trapezoidal rule with the transformation $\Omega$$_{m}$(b;$\chi$), like the case of the Gauss-Legendre quadrature rule, can improve the asymptotic truncation error by using a moderately large b. By several examples, we compare the numerical results of the present method with those of some existing methods. This shows the superiority of the transformation $\Omega$$_{m}$(b;$\chi$).TEX>).
