Scanning Electron Microscopic Study on the Wax Structures in Lipstick According to Storage Temperature After Mold (립스틱 성형 후 보관온도에 따른 왁스구조의 주사전자현미경적 연구)

  • This study shows that ceresin wax, candellila wax and microcrystalline wax mixed together with liquid paraffin oil to produce lipsticks (LS-1, LS-2) and capric/caprylic triglyceride oil added to produce lipsticks (LS-3, LS-4). After each type of lipsticks were molded, LS-1 and LS-3 was put into a cooling chamber ($5^{\circ}C$). LS-2 and LS-4 was put into a cooling chamber ($5^{\circ}C$) for 18 hours and kept in an incubator ($45^{\circ}C$) for 5 hours and put again into a cool chamber ($5^{\circ}C$). After that, the wax's three dimensional network structure was observed under scanning electron microscopy. Regardless of the kind of oil, the LS-1 and LS-3 wax structure had more distinct shape than the lipstick wax structure of LS-2 and LS-4. Also, regardless of the kind of wax, the three dimensional network structure was modified as the storage temperature increased. As a result, the lipstick's molding temperature increased, the wax's structure size also increased and the shape irregularly modified. This modification causes sweating phenomenon which affected lipstick's surface rheological property.

A Study on the Sea Water DTEC Power Generation System of the FPSO (FPSO의 온배수를 활용한 해수 DTEC 발전시스템에 대한 연구)

  • The development of limited petroleum resources for use with mankind inevitably explores and seeks to develop oil fields in the deep sea area, under the rise of the oil prices market situation. The use of Oceanic Thermal Energy Conversion (OTEC) technology, which operates the power generation facility using the temperature differences between the deep water and the surface water, is progressing actively as a trend to follow. In this study, the application of the Discharged Thermal Energy Conversion (DTEC) was designed and analyzed under the condition that the supply condition of seawater used in the FPSO installed in the deep sea area is changed up to 400m depth. In this case, it was confirmed that the design of the system that can generate more electric power according to the depth of water is confirmed, by thus applying the DTEC system by taking the cooling water at a deeper water depth than the existing design water depth. The FPSO considers the similarity of the OTEC power generation facilities, and will apply the DTEC system to FPSO in the deep sea area to accumulate technology and the conversion to further utilize the OTEC power generation facilities after the end of life cycle of oil production, which could be a solution to two important issues, namely, resource development and sustainable development.

An Experimental Study on the Clutch Type Water Pump of Diesel Passenger Vehicle for Reducing Fuel Consumption and CO2 Emission (연비 개선 및 CO2 저감을 위한 승용디젤 차량의 클러치타입 워터펌프 적용에 따른 실험적 연구)

  • A typical cooling system of an engine relies on a water pump that circulates the coolant through the system. The pump is typically driven by the crankshaft through a mechanical link with engine starting. In order to reduce the friction and warm-up time of an engine, the clutch-type water pump (CWP) was applied in 2.0 liter diesel vehicle. The clutch-type water pump can force cooling water to supply into an engine by the operation of an electromagnetic clutch equipped as the inner part of pump system. The onset of CWP is decided by temperature of cooling water and engine oil. And, the control logic for an optimal operation of the clutch-type water pump was developed and applied in engine and vehicle tests. In this study, the warm-up time was measured with the conventional water pump and clutch-type water pump in engine tests. And the emission and the fuel consumption were evaluated under NEDC mode in vehicle tests. Also, tests were carried out for the various temperature conditions starting the operation of CWP. From the results of the study, the application of CWP can improve the fuel consumption and $CO_2$ reduction by about 3%.

COMMISSIONING RESULT OF THE KSTAR HELIUM REFRIGERATION SYSTEM

  • To keep the superconducting (SC) magnet coils of KSTAR at proper operating conditions, not only the coils but also other cold components, such as thermal shields (TS), magnet structures, SC bus-lines (BL), and current leads (CL) must be maintained at their respective cryogenic temperatures. A helium refrigeration system (RRS) with an exergetic equivalent cooling power of 9 kW at 4.5 K without liquid nitrogen ($LN_2$) pre-cooling has been manufactured and installed. The main components of the KST AR helium refrigeration system (HRS) can be classified into the warm compression system (WCS) and the cryogenic devices according to the operating temperature levels. The process helium is compressed from 1 bar to 22 bar passing through the WCS and is supplied to cryogenic devices. The main components of cryogenic devices are consist of cold box (C/B) and distribution box (D/B). The C/B cool-down and make the various cryogenic helium for the KSTAR Tokamak and the various cryogenic helium is distributed by the D/B as per the KSTAR requirement. In this proceeding, we will present the commissioning results of the KSTAR HRS. Circuits which can simulate the thermal loads and pressure drops corresponding to the cooling channels of each cold component of KSTAR have been integrated into the helium distribution system of the HRS. Using those circuits, the performance and the capability of the HRS, to fulfill the mission of establishing the appropriate operating condition for the KSTAR SC magnet coils, have been successfully demonstrated.

Cooling Performance Characteristics of High-Performance Heat Pump with VI Cycle Using Re-Cooler (재냉기를 이용한 고성능 VI(Vapor Injection)사이클 열펌프의 냉방 성능특성에 관한 연구)

  • In this study, we experimentally investigate the performance characteristics of a high-performance summer-cooling heat pump for an R410A by applying an air-cooled-type vapor-injection (VI) cycle. The devices used for the experiment consist of a VI compressor, condenser, oil separator, plate-type heat-exchanger, economizer, evaporator, and re-cooler. The experimental conditions employed for the cooling performance were divided into three cycles. First, in Cycle A, we apply a VI cycle and with no heat exchange between the evaporator outlet refrigerant and the VI cycle suction refrigerant in the re-cooler. For Cycle B, there is heat exchange, and for Cycle C, there is neither a VI cycle nor heat exchange between the evaporator outlet refrigerant and the VI cycle suction refrigerant. From the analysis results, we observe that the performance was highest in the VI cycle with heat exchange between the evaporator outlet refrigerant and the VI cycle suction refrigerant (Cycle B), while it was lowest in Cycle C without application of the VI cycle. Moreover, the cooling coefficient of Performance ($COP_C$) averaged 3.5 in Cycle B, which was 8.6% higher than the corresponding value in Cycle A, and 33% higher than that in Cycle C.

A Study on the Change of Condensable Particulate Matter by the SO2 Concentration among Combustion Gases (연소 배출가스 중 SO2 농도에 따른 응축성먼지 변화에 관한 연구)

  • Particulate matter (PM) emitted from fossil fuel-combustion facilities can be classified as either filterable or condensable PM. The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) defined condensable PM as material that is in the phase of vapor at the stack temperature of the sampling location which condenses, reacts upon cooling and dilution in the ambient air to form solid or liquid in a few second after the discharge from the stack. Condensable PM passed through the filter media and it is typically ignored. But condensable PM was defined as a component of primary PM. This study investigates the change of condensable PM according to the variation in the sulfur dioxide of combustion gas. Domestic oil boilers were used as the source of emission ($SO_2$) and the level of $SO_2$ concentration (0, 50, 80, and 120 ppm) was adjusted by diluting general light oil and marine gas oil (MGO) that contains sulfur less than 0.5%. Condensable PM was measured as 2.72, 6.10, 8.38, and $13.34mg/m^3$ when $SO_2$ concentration in combustion gas were 0, 50, 80, and 120 ppm respectively. The condensable PM tended to increase as the concentration of $SO_2$ increased. Some of the gaseous air pollutants emitted from the stack should be considered precursors of condensable PM. The gas phase pollutants which converted into condensable PM should reduced for condensable PM control.

Casting Layout Design Using CAE Simulation : Automotive Part(Oil Pan_BR2E) (CAE을 이용한 주조방안설계 : 자동차용 부품(오일팬_BR2E))

  • A most important progress in civilization was the introduction of mass production. One of main methods for mass production is die-casting molds. Due to the high velocity of the liquid metal, aluminum die-casting is so complex where flow momentum is critical matter in the mold filling process. Actually in complex parts, it is almost impossible to calculate the exact mold filling performance with using experimental knowledge. To manufacture the lightweight automobile bodies, aluminum die-castings play a definitive role in the automotive part industry. Due to this condition in the design procedure, the simulation is becoming more important. Simulation can make a casting system optimal and also elevate the casting quality with less experiment. The most advantage of using simulation programs is the time and cost saving of the casting layout design. For a die casting mold, generally, the casting layout design should be considered based on the relation among injection system, casting condition, gate system, and cooling system. Also, the extent or the location of product defects was differentiated according to the various relations of the above conditions. In this research, in order to optimize the casting layout design of an automotive Oil Pan_BR2E, Computer Aided Engineering (CAE) simulation was performed with three layout designs by using the simulation software (AnyCasting). The simulation results were analyzed and compared carefully in order to apply them into the production die-casting mold. During the filling process with three models, internal porosities caused by air entrapments were predicted and also compared with the modification of the gate system and overflows. With the solidification analysis, internal porosities occurring during the solidification process were predicted and also compared with the modified gate system.

Solubility Consideration in Performance Analysis of a $CO_2$ Twin Rotary Compressor (오일 용해도를 고려한 $CO_2$ 트윈 로타리 압축기 성능해석)

  • For a $CO_2$ two-stage twin rotary compressor used for heat pump water heater system, changes of $CO_2$ solubility in PAG oil were investigated along the gas passages from the first stage suction to final discharge. Only slight changes in solubility took place in suction chambers for both of the first and second stages, but for compression chambers, solubility variation ranged from 0.115 to 0.136, and from 0.133 to 0.182, respectively for the first and second stages. Calculation of gas flashing in parts of leakage oil flows and of oil contained in control volumes due to solubility changes was conducted and included in gas pressure calculation. For the second stage, gas flashing amounts to around $5%\sim6%$ for most leakage flows. Cooling capacity, compressor input, and COP obtained by calculation were well compared to the experimental results. Effects of operation speed on the compressor performance was also studied: as the shaft speed increased, adiabatic efficiency decreased rapidly due to increased over-compression loss.

  • The current situation of heating and cooling system of the classrooms of our country is rather poor compared not only to those of the developed nation's classrooms but also in case of other buildings such as financial institutions, office compounds. In winter, especially students have been in hatred state with respect to their health due to the fact that the heater is operated by petroleum. Korea has been heavily dependent on foreign nations for the very fact of importing energy in the form of oil or natural gas. So it is important to conserve energy and the picture with respect to energy remains similar till today as it was in long past periods. The purpose of this study is to contribute actively in energy economy and facilitate towards a healthy school life of students and other institutions proving a system of extracting energy from river water and then converting it into heat which can stand as an effective alternate of expensive oil or gas. Installing oil-stove based heating system at classrooms of school could get considerable attentation in several respects. The proposed heat energy could be collected unlimitedly both in time and in amount. The stable and uninterrupted heat energy from river water, optimally utilizing the typical-regional and geographical characteristics has the potential to be long-lasting in duration, cheap in energy economy and beneficial to health as well.

  • In the modern industrial period, the introduction of mass production was most important progress in civilization. Die-casting process is one of main methods for mass production in the modern industry. The aluminum die-casting in the mold filling process is very complicated where flow momentum is the high velocity of the liquid metal. The cost and time savings of the casting layout design are the most advantage of Computer Aided Engineering (CAE). Generally, the relations of casting conditions such as injection system, gate system, and cooling system should be considered when designing the casting layout. Due to the various relative matters of the above conditions, product defects such as defect extent and location are significantly difference. In this research by using the simulation software (AnyCasting), CAE simulation was conducted with three layout designs to find out the best alternative for the casting layout design of an automotive Oil Pan_BJ3E. In order to apply the simulation results into the production die-casting mold, they were analyzed and compared carefully. Internal porosities which are caused by air entrapments during the filling process were predicted and also the results of three models were compared with the modifications of the gate system and overflows. Internal porosities which are occurred during the solidification process are predicted with the solidification analysis. And also the results of the modified gate system are compared.
