  • Polarization mode converters have been produced by utilizing Ti:LiNbO$_{3}$ channel waveguide and strain-optic effect. Shear strain for periodic perturbations of optical channel waveguides and phase matching can be obtained by an evaporated periodic SiO$_{2}$ thin film at 300.deg. C. The electrodes located on the either side of waveguide provide a means to electro-optically tune the wavelength for maximum polarization conversion via the electrooptic effect. The maximum conversion effeciency was observed at 21.deg. C for V=0 and 46.deg. C for V=30V aro the device having 7 .mu.m waveguide wiith and 350 periodic pads. The dependence of the number of pads on conversion efficiency was observed experimentally.fficiency was observed experimentally.

  • The $TiO_2$ Pastes was prepared with the starting materials of $TiO_2$ (P-25), ethyl cellulose, a-terpineol and bis(2-ethylhexyl) phthalate, and this $TiO_2$ paste application for dye-sensitized solar cells (DSSCs) were investigated. In order to improved transparency of $TiO_2$ photoanode films, $TiO_2$ paste was changed ethyl cellulose and a-terpineol contents. The morphology of prepared $TiO_2$ films were investigated by field emission scanning electron microscopy (FE-SEM). The electrochemical properties of the thin films and the performance of DSSCs were measured by photovoltaic-current density and AC impedance. Energy conversion efficiency was obtained about 5.7% at ethyl cellulose and a-terpineol on best mixed ratio under illumination with AM 1.5 ($100mWcm^{-2}$)simulated sunlight.

  • We have demonstrated Forst-type resonance energy transfer (FRET) in the quasi-solid type dye-sensitized solar cells between organic fluorescence materials as an energy donor doped in polymeric gel electrolyte and ruthenium complex as an energy acceptor on surface of $TiO_2$. The strong spectral overlap of emission/absorption of energy donor and acceptor is required to get high FRET efficiency. The judicious choice of energy donor allows the enhancement of light harvesting characters of energy acceptor in quasi-solid dye sensitized solar cells which increase the power conversion efficiency. The enhanced light harvesting effect by the judicious choice/design of the fluorescence materials and sensitizing dyes permits the enhancement of photovoltaic performance of DSSC.
