  • Generally, discrete-time processing is applied to the uniformly-sampled signals. But, radars emit pulse trains with irregular time instances. In this paper, we formulate the radar pulse train as a stochastic discrete-time dynamic linear model. The estimation task can be done via linear signal processing using Kalman Filter and some considerations. As a result, we can estimate the pulse repetition interval of a pulse train and predict the time instances of the next pulses to be received.

  • Cylindrical bag filter system with pulse jet cleaning has been the most common device to control particle laden exhaust gas from the various industrial processes. But, it has many shortcomings due to particle reattachment and frequent bag rupture. In recent years, rectangular type bag filter system has been developed to overcome the problems associated with the cylindrical system. However, not many studies about the rectangular system were not done, compared to the cylindrical system. In this study, the optimum pulse jet cleaning conditions were thus tested by the series of experiments. The factors tested in this study are pulse distance, pulse pressure, pulse duration, the number of holes for pulsing and bag materials. A single bag ($1,500mmL{\times}50mmW{\times}300mmH$) system and a multi-bags (3 bags in a row) were tested separately. The highest removal efficiency with a single bag system was found at the conditions with pulse distance of 10cm, pulse pressure of $3kg/cm^2$, pulse duration of 0.3s, pulse jet number of 6 and Polyester bag. With the multi-bags system, the best cleaning conditions were found at the bag interval of 20cm with the simultaneous pulsing and the bag interval of 15cm with the serial pulsing.

  • The objectives of this study were to test the efficacy of induction of estrus and determine the timing of ovulation in relation to preovulatory LH and estrogen surges in cycling Murrah buffaloes subjected to Heatsynch protocol (GnRH-$PGF_2{\alpha}$-Estradiol benzoate). In experiment 1, the buffaloes (n = 10) were treated with Heatsynch protocol and observed for estrus and ovulation. In experiment 2 and 3, 30 cycling Murrah buffaloes were used to investigate the efficacy of Heatsynch protocol in terms of conception rates in summer (experiment 2) and winter (experiment 3) seasons. Fixed time A.I. was performed in all the buffaloes at 48 and 60 h post-estradiol benzoate (EB) injection. All buffaloes responded to the Heatsynch protocol with expression of estrus for which ovulations were induced in 8 buffaloes (80%). Mean time interval from the EB injection to ovulation was 50.0${\pm}$2.0 h (range 44.0 to 60.0 h). The interval from the end of LH surge to ovulation was 18.5${\pm}$2.47 h (range 8 to 26 h). The interval from end of estrogen surge to ovulation was 26.75 ${\pm}$2.07 h (range 22 to 36 h). Mean LH peak after EB injection occurred at 20.81${\pm}$1.61 h (range 14 to 28 h) and mean estrogen peak after EB injection occurred at 9.62${\pm}$1.03 h (range 7 to 16 h). Hence, the mean estrogen peak preceded the mean LH peak by 11 h. It was observed that the percentage of conceptions to total number of estruses for control buffaloes was 18 and 30 in summer and winter, respectively, whereas it increased to 26 and 40 in Heatsynch treated buffaloes in respective seasons. The results suggest the possibility of using Heatsynch treatment followed by fixed time A.I. in buffaloes for fertility improvement, especially since the incidence of silent heat in buffaloes is very high.

  • The recorder at observatory can save the measured data from water gauge and rain gauge at an interval of five minutes. And then, the RTU (Remote Terminal Unit) in observatory sends the measured data in the recorder to the TM (Telemetering) in FCO (Flood Control Office) at an interval of ten minutes using VHF or satellite communication. But the transmitted data is not the stored data at the recorder, it is just data that is measured at an interval of ten minutes. In the FCO, the transmitted data is analyzed in order to forecast the flood. And also one of the most important things is the maintenance of an observatory. In this paper, an effective management system for the flood forecast is proposed. It uses the CDMA and the Blutooth technology on PDA. The proposed system is very portable, and also easily able to send the data stored at the recorder in observatory to TM in FCO without RTU. And it allows us to view remotely the data of other observatories by downloading from the FCO. Hence the system can do efficiently the maintenance of observatory without wasting manpower and time.

  • In geographic forwarding algorithms, traditional route maintenance requires mobile nodes periodically exchange beacon messages with their neighbors. In beacon message based forwarding scheme, a longer interval reduces the number of beacons needed, but may result in significant location errors. Conversely, a shorter interval guarantees more accurate location information, but induces control overheads. Therefore, the fixed or dynamic interval scheme based forwarding schemes cannot adapt well to different mobility environments. Also, existing schemes result in the uncertainty of neighbor node's position in the forwarding table of mobile node. Therefore, this paper presents a self-adaptive location checking mechanism based proactive geo-routing algorithm for beacon-based geographic routing. Simulation results show that the proposed routing algorithm not only significantly increases the relay transmission rate but also guarantees the high end-to-end packet delivery in low and high mobility environments.

  • The aim of this study is to investigate the effect of Naegwan-Acupuncture stimulation on the relationship of change in electrocardiopgraphy(EGG). For this purpose, 11 normal volunteers were acupunctured at Naegwan acupoint using the method of Young-Su-Bo-Sa. Then, we measured and observed the change of augmented unipolar limb leads aVR, aVL and aVF in EGG. In aVR, Naegwan acupuncture treated groups were increased the activity of PR interval and PR segment compared to the control group. In aVL, Naegwan acupuncture treated groups were increased the activity of R wave amplitude, PR interval and PR segment. In aVF, Naegwan acupuncture treated groups were increased the activity of S wave amplitude and PR interval. These results suggested that Naegwan acupuncture stimulation play an important role to the activities of EGG.

  • Heart rate variability(HRV) is the clinical consequence of various influences of the autonomic nervous system(ANS) on heart beat. HRV can estimate the potential physiologic rhythm from the interval between consecutive beats(RR interval or HRV data), but cardiovascular system governed by ANS is in relation to respiration and autonomic regulation. It is known as RSA representing respiration-related HR rhythmic oscillation. Because the mechanism linking the variability of HR to respiration is complex, it has so far been unknown well. In this paper, we tried to evaluate 5-min RR interval segments under control of respiration in order to find out a proper respiration rate that can estimate the ANS function. 10 healthy volunteers were included to evaluate 5-min HRV data under 4 different respiration-controlled environments; 0.03Hz, 0.1Hz, 0.2Hz, and 0.4Hz respiration. HRV data were analyzed both in the frequency and the time domain, with cross-correlation coefficient(cross-coeff.) for HRV and respiration signal. The results showed maximum cross-coeff. of 0.84 at 0.1 Hz and minimum that of 0.16 at 0.4Hz respiration. Cross-coeff was decreased at a faster rate from 0.1Hz respiration. All mean SDNN, RMSSD, and pNN50 of time domain measures were 108.7ms, 71.85ms, and 28.47%, respectively, and LF, HF, and TP of frequency domain measures were $12,722ms^2,\;658.8ms^2$, and $7,836.64ms^2$ at 0.1Hz respiration, respectively. In conclusion, 0.1Hz respiration was observed to be very meaningful from time domain and frequency domain analysis in relation to respiration and autonomic regulation of the heart.

  • The motality rate of acute subdural hematoma(ASDH) associated with closed head injury is high in spite of recent advances in neurosurgery. Many variables in regard to outcome of ASDH have been assessed. But among them, intracranial pressure(ICP) control and the time interval between injury and operative evacuation are the only things that can be affected by doctor. We introduced a simple method to the management of ASDH for reducing the time interval between injury and operation. When the immediate decompressive operation of ASDH was impossible by any causes, we made a burr hole at the center of hematoma, usually on 2-3cm above temporal squama and 1-2cm behind coronal suture under local anesthesia before main operation. Partial hematoma evacuation was achieved through the burr hole and it was effective in preventing further worsening of patients neurological status before main operation. Prompt hematoma evacuation through the burr hole seemed to be effective in delaying secondary ischemic brain damage and made easy to closing the dura opening and replacement of the bone flap at the end of main decompressive operation. This easy method may reduce the time interval between injury and operation. We represent surgical technique with two cases of ASDH managed with this simple method.

  • Purpose: The role of radiotherapy (RT) was largely deserted after the introduction of platinum-based chemotherapy, but still survival rates are disappointingly low. This study focuses on assessing the clinical efficacy of RT in relation to chemotherapy resistance. Materials and Methods: From October 2002 to January 2015, 44 patients were diagnosed with epithelial ovarian cancer (EOC) and treated with palliative RT for persistent or recurrent EOC. All patients received initial treatment with optimal debulking surgery and adjuvant platinum-based chemotherapy. The biologically effective dose (BED) was calculated with ${\alpha}/{\beta}$ set at 10. Ninety-four sites were treated with RT with a median BED of 50.7 Gy (range 28.0 to 79.2 Gy). The primary end-point was the in-field local control (LC) interval, defined as the time interval from the date RT was completed to the date any progressive or newly recurring disease within the RT field was detected on radiographic imaging. Results: The median follow-up duration was 52.3 months (range 7.7 to 179.0 months). The 1-year and 2-year in-field LC rates were 66.0% and 55.0%, respectively. Comparisons of percent change of in-field tumor response showed similar distribution of responses among chemoresistant and chemosensitive tumors. On multivariate analysis of predictive factors for in-field LC analyzed by sites treated, $BED{\geq}50Gy$ (hazard ratio, 0.4; confidence interval, 0.2-0.9; p = 0.025) showed better outcomes. Conclusion: Regardless of resistance to platinum-based chemotherapy, RT can be a feasible treatment modality for patients with persistent of recurrent EOC. The specific role of RT using updated approaches needs to be reassessed.
