  • Many studies have investigated the smart grid architecture and communication models in the past few years. However, the communication model and architecture for a smart grid still remain unclear. Today's electric power distribution is very complex and maladapted because of the lack of efficient and cost-effective energy generation, distribution, and consumption management systems. A wireless smart grid communication system can play an important role in achieving these goals. In this paper, we describe a smart grid communication architecture in which we merge customers and distributors into a single domain. In the proposed architecture, all the home area networks, neighborhood area networks, and local electrical equipment form a local wireless mesh network (LWMN). Each device or meter can act as a source, router, or relay. The data generated in any node (device/meter) reaches the data collector via other nodes. The data collector transmits this data via the access point of a wide area network (WAN). Finally, data is transferred to the service provider or to the control center of the smart grid. We propose a wireless cooperative communication model for the LWMN.We deploy a limited number of smart relays to improve the performance of the network. A novel relay selection mechanism is also proposed to reduce the relay selection overhead. Simulation results show that our cooperative smart grid (coopSG) communication model improves the end-to-end packet delivery latency, throughput, and energy efficiency over both the Wang et al. and Niyato et al. models.

  • In geographic routing for wireless sensor networks, sources need the location of sinks destined for delivering their data packets. Most of the existing geographic routing protocols merely assume that the sources can get the locations of sinks by some location service. How source nodes find out the location of sinks is not easy. In this paper, we propose a sink location dissemination scheme in geographic routing for wireless sensor networks. In this scheme, a source node and a sink node send sink location announcement and query messages along two paths respectively by geographic routing. The node located on the crossing point of the two paths informs the source about the sink location. Then the source can send data packet to the sink by geographic routing. How to guarantee that these two paths have at least one crossing point in any irregular profile of sensor network is the challenge of this paper Simulation results show that our protocol is significantly superior to other protocols in terms of energy consumption and control overhead.

  • In this paper, we propose a reliable multicast scheme for the tactical wireless ad hoc network where the members share the situation and operation data. Our scheme consists of two phases to guarantee the reliability. During the dissemination phase, we utilizes an epidemic approach similar to gossip-based ad hoc routing. Then the group members interchange the message reception state information periodically so that they are able to recover missing packets from the other members. We evaluate the performance of our scheme through extensive simulations using the network simulator in comparison with other existing reliable multicast schemes in mobile ad hoc network. Our scheme shows higher packet delivery ratio regardless of the mobility and imposes much lower control overhead to the non-group members compared with the existing schemes.

  • Multi-distributed web cluster model built for high availability E-Business model exposes internal system nodes on its structural characteristics and has a potential that normal job performance is impossible due to the intentional prevention and attack by an illegal third party. Therefore, the security system which protects the structured system nodes and can correspond to the outflow of information from illegal users and unfair service requirements effectively is needed. Therefore the suggested distributed invasion detection system is the technology which detects the illegal requirement or resource access of system node distributed on open network through organic control between SC-Agents based on the shared memory of SC-Server. Distributed invasion detection system performs the examination of job requirement packet using Detection Agent primarily for detecting illegal invasion, observes the job process through monitoring agent when job is progressed and then judges the invasion through close cooperative works with other system nodes when there is access or demand of resource not permitted.

  • Recently, femtocell has been concerned as one of effective solutions to relieve shadow region and provide high quality services to users in indoor environments. Even though femtocell offers various benefits to cellular operators and users, many technical issues, such as interference coordination, network synchronization, self-configuration, self-optimization, and so on, should be solved to deploy the femtocell in current network. In this paper, we develop a simulator for evaluating performance of long term evolution (LTE) femtocell systems under various interference scenarios. The simulator consists of a main-module and five sub-modules. The main-module connects and manages five sub-modules which have the functionality managing user mobility, packet scheduling, call admission control, traffic generation, and modulation and coding scheme (MCS). To provide user convenience, the simulator adopts graphical user interface (GUI) which can observes simulation results in real time. We expect that this simulator can contribute to developing effective femtocell systems by supporting a tool for analyzing the effect of interference between macrocell and femtocell.

  • In this paper, we propose a conversational quality measurement (CQM) system for providing the objective QoS of high quality mobile VoIP voice telecommunication. For measuring the conversational quality, the VoIP telecommunication system is implemented in two smart phones connected with VoIP. The VoIP telecommunication system consists of echo cancellation, noise reduction, speech encoding/decoding, packet generation with RTP (Real-Time Protocol), jitter buffer control and POS (Play-out Schedule) with LC (loss Concealment). The CQM system is connected to a microphone and a speaker of each smart phone. The voice signal of each speaker is recorded and used to measure CE (Conversational Efficiency), CS (Conversational Symmetry), PESQ (Perceptual Evaluation of Speech Quality) and CE-CS-PESQ correlation. We prove the CQM system by measuring CE, CS and PESQ under various SNR, delay and loss due to IP network environment.

  • With the rapid increase in the number of mobile terminals, demand for wireless technologies has sharply increased these days. While wireless communication provides advantages such as ease of deployment, mobility of terminals, continuity of session, and almost comparable transmission bandwidth to the wired communication, it has vulnerability to malicious radio attacks such as eavesdropping, denial of service, session hijacking, and jamming. Among a variety of methods of preventing wireless attacks, the MTD(Moving Target Defense) is the technique for improving the security capability of the defense system by constantly changing the ability of the system to be attacked. In this paper, in order to develop a resilient software defined radio communication testbed system, we present a novel MTD approach to change dynamically and randomly the radio parameters such as modulation scheme, operating frequency, packet size. The probability of successful attack on the developed MTD-based SDR communication system has been analysed in a mathematical way and verified through simulation.

  • In this paper, we propose a Cluster-based Multicast Routing (CMR) suitable for mobile ad-hoc networks. The main features that our proposed method introduces are the following: a) mobility-based clustering and group based hierarchical structure in order to effectively support stability and scalability, b) group based mesh structure and forwarding tree concepts in order to support the robustness of the mesh topologies which provides limited redundancy and the efficiency of tree forwarding simultaneously, and c) combination of proactive and reactive concepts which provide low route acquisition delay and low overhead. The performance evaluation of the proposed protocol is achieved via modeling and simulation. The corresponding results demonstrate the Proposed multicast protocol's efficiency in terms of packet delivery ratio, scalability, control overhead, end-to-end delay, as a function of mobility, multicast group size, and number of senders.

  • While ATM technology results in considerable advantages(less overhead, increased throughput) in an optical networks, It causes severe problems(single and burst error) when ATM is transmitted over an error-prone channel, such as wireless link. In this paper we describe our investigation on ATM over wireless network. we first evaluate performance of ATM data transmission over a wireless link. Secondly we analyze performance improvements of Forward Error Correction(FEC) or ARQ(Automatic Repeat reQuest) scheme applied to wireless ATM link and provide performance comparison between FEC and ARQ through the use of packet error rate and throughput. Lastly we suggest error control architecture to overcome the impact of the bit error characteristics of a wireless link on wireless ATM network.

  • Micro-magnetic detection system is used to detect small particles in an automatic transmission valve body, which signal noise and time-delay may occurs in process of signal transmitting and filtering. In this paper, we present the design and implement of a micro-magnetic detection system based on wireless sensor networks in conveyer belt. Micro-magnetic detection system consists of five modules which are magnetic sensor detector, signal processing unit, wireless sensor networks, system control unit and system monitoring unit. Our experimental results show that the proposed wireless micro-magnetic detection system improves both accuracy and time delay compared to the wired system; therefore, it may apply for wireless micro-magnetic detection system by analysis of packet reception rate.
