Significance of Hypovolemia in Feed Intake Control of Goats Fed on Dry Feed

  • The objective of this study was to examine the significance of feeding induced hypovolemia (decrease in plasma volume) in controlling the feed intake of goats fed on dry feed. In order to alleviate hypovolemia with feeding, a 2 h intravenous infusion (16-18 ml/min) of artificial saliva or mannitol solution was begun 1 h prior to feeding and continued until 1h after the start of the 2 h feeding period. In comparison with no infusion (NI), cumulative feed intake was increased by 41% with artificial saliva infusion (ASI) and by 45% with mannitol infusion (MI) by the completion of the 2 h feeding period. Both infusion treatments (ASI and MI) were significantly different (p<0.05) from the NI treatment in terms of the cumulative feed intake. The cumulative feed intake between the ASI and MI treatments was not significantly different (p>0.05). No infusion treatment (NI) had the lowest cumulative feed intake (929 g DM), whereas MI had the highest (1345 g DM), after completion of the 2 h feeding period. Generally, infusion treatments also increased the rate of eating at all time points after feeding was commenced. Following the first 30 mins of feeding, the rate of eating decreased sharply, and subsequently declined gradually in all treatments. Compared to the NI, both ASI and MI significantly (p<0.05) decreased thirst level (water intake for 30 mins after the completion of the 2 h feeding period) by approximately 13%. However, the thirst level caused by ASI and MI was not significantly different (p>0.05). Both ASI and MI decreased the plasma concentrations of osmolality and total protein, and hematocrit at 1 h after infusion. The results suggested that the thirst sensation in the brain could be produced by feeding induced hypovolemia. Moreover, the results indicate that hypovolemia is one of the factors controlling the feed intake of goats fed on dry feed.

세종특별자치시 중학생의 학교급식 만족도와 식습관 조사 (Study on the Satisfaction for School Food Service and Dietary Habits of Middle School Students in Sejong Special Self-Governing City)

  • The aim of this study is to provide the fundamental information on satisfaction for school food service and dietary habits of middle school students in Sejong Special Self-Governing City. Generally, the subjects had a high satisfaction level for school food service. The boys had comparatively more satisfactory days for school food service than the girls. The most dissatisfactory factors of school food service were the taste and variety of menu for the girls, and the time and place for lunch and the service of employee for the boys. The intersexual differences existed with a significant difference in the irregular intake of meals, the reasons to skip meals, and the eating speed. For the boys, the main reason to skip meals was due to lack of appetite, and for the girls, it was the weight-control. The boys finished each meal within 5~10 min and ate more than the amount the girls eat in general. The main components of breakfast for the subjects were a cooked rice, soup, and side dish in 65.9%, and the frequency of skipping breakfast was high with 32.8%, which was once per week. The favorite snacks for the middle school students were cookies and beverages in 29.4%, instant foods in 24.3%, and hamburger and pizza in 21.4%. The intake frequency of snacks was once or twice per week in 46.5% of the subjects. In addition, the subjects had a very high intake frequency of fastfoods with once or twice per week in 72.7%, and the most favorite fastfood was ramen in 57.7%. The subjects in 45.3% took dairy food every day. In conclusion, the middle school students need nutrition education to improve their eating habit and to increase the frequency of breakfast.

다중지능이론에 기초한 학습지도안이 일부 초등학생의 영양교육에 미치는 효과 (The Effect of Nutrition Education based on Theory of Multiple Intelligence in Elementary School Students)

  • The purpose of this study was to identify the effects of nutrition education on elementary school students based on the theory of multiplex intelligence. Of the 56 elementary school students that participated in this survey, 37 (66.0%) had no siblings. The number of students whose mothers had jobs and those whose mothers did not work were 37 (67.9%) and 18 (32.1%), respectively. Food consumption with ordinary diets was normal in 23 students (41.1%) and the average frequency of snack intake and eating-out was determined to be twice a day (41 students, 73.2%) and once or twice per week (36 students, 64.3%), respectively. The most popular type of food consumed when eating-out was 'fast foods' in 28 students (50.0%). It was determined that on average, 39 students (69.6%) snacked between lunch and dinner time and 31 (55.4%) selected snacks based on information obtained through 'mass media'. Analysis of the effects of nutrition education revealed an increase in the number of correct answers to the question 'foods with high nutritional value are high calorie foods,' with significant difference, but not in other questionnaires. In addition, the correct information for calcium (p<.05), good dietary habits (p<.001), food poisoning (p<.05), and six groups of nutrients in foods (p<.001) improved after nutrition education, with significant differences. As a result, the ratio of correct answers increased after nutrition education, with a significant difference (p<.001). After the education, the experimental group had a higher total score than the control group, with significant difference (p<.01).

『격치여론(格致餘論)』에 나타난 양생사상(養生思想)에 관한 연구 (A Study on Thought of Regimen specified in Gyeokchiyeoron)

  • Objectives : This paper was motivated by the discovery that there is a regimen which is more realistic and can be used in practical life with deep consideration of Dangye's thought through Judangye's book Gyeokchiyeoron. Methods : First, after looking into the movement of the heart through the contents of natural science underlying Dangye's regimen thought, this paper intends to examine regimens by dividing them into a regimen of food, regimen of sexual desire, and regimen for infancy and the elderly according to age on the basis of the contents included in Gyeokchiyeoron. Results : As for food, Dangye argued that it's necessary that people should avoid overeating and savory taste and observe the proper time for eating, and as for sexual desire, Dangye argued that people should control themselves from bodily and mental aspects. In addition, this paper could learn that as for infants, what matter are eating, clothes to wear, their mother's role, and education while as for the elderly, what matter are taking good care of the spleen and stomach, and children's filial piety, and the elderly should awaken themselves to sound mentality. Conclusions : Through the research on Gyeokchiyeoron, this paper was able to learn that Dangye-argued regimen includes a regimen of food, sexual desire, and a regimen for infants and the elderly; in addition, this paper could learn that there are some parts of Dangye-argued regimen contents, which anyone can easily apply in reality.

Dietary sodium intake in young Korean adults and its relationship with eating frequency and taste preference

  • Dietary sodium intake is considered one of the major causal factors for hypertension. Thus, to control the increase of blood pressure and reduce the risk of hypertension-related clinical complications, a reduction in sodium intake is recommended. The present study aimed at determining the association of dietary sodium intake with meal and snack frequency, snacking time, and taste preference in Korean young adults aged 20-26 years, using a 125-item dish-frequency questionnaire. The mean dietary sodium intakes of men and women were 270.6 mmol/day and 213.1 mmol/day, which were approximately 310% and 245% of the daily sodium intake goal for Korean men and women, respectively. Dietary sodium intake was positively correlated with systolic blood pressure in the total group, and BMI in the total and men-only groups. In the total and men-only groups, those who consumed meals more times per day consumed more dietary sodium, but the number of times they consumed snacks was negatively correlated with dietary sodium intake in the total, men-only, and women-only groups. In addition, those who consumed snacks in the evening consumed more sodium than those who did so in the morning in the men-only group. The sodium intake was also positively associated with preference for salty and sweet taste in the total and women-only groups. Such a high intake of sodium in these young subjects shows that a reduction in sodium intake is important for the prevention of hypertension and related diseases in the future.

Cryopreserved fascia lata allograft use in surgical facial reanimation: a retrospective study of seven cases

  • Background: Facial palsy treatment comprises static and dynamic techniques. Among dynamic techniques, local temporalis transposition represents a reliable solution to achieve facial reanimation. The present study describes a modification of the temporalis tendon transfer using a cryopreserved fascia allograft. Case presentation: Between March 2015 and September 2018, seven patients with facial palsy underwent facial reanimation with temporalis tendon transfer and fascia lata allograft. Patients with long-term palsy were considered, and both physical and social functions were evaluated. The mean follow-up time was 21.5 months. No immediate complications were observed. Patients reported improvement in facial symmetry both in static and dynamic. Improvement was noticed also in articulation, eating, drinking, and saliva control. The Facial Disability Index revealed an improvement both in physical function subscale and in the social/well-being function subscale. Conclusions: This modified orthodromic technique allows to reduce the operative time and the risk of complications connected to the use of autologous tissues. The use of the cryopreserved fascia allografts from cadaveric donors seems to provide promising and long-standing results in the treatment of facial palsy.

오리 순치방법이 논 방사후 행동과 벼 수량에 미치는 영향 (Effects of Duckling training on Behavior and Rice Yield in Paddy Fields)

  • 오리농법에 있어서 논 방사 직후의 새끼오리는 물을 포함한 논 환경에 충분히 적응하지 못하고 폐사하거나 사람에 대한 도피행동에 의해 벼를 밟아 넘어뜨리는 등의 피해가 발생하고 있다. 또한 방사종료 후 오리포획에 있어서도 많은 시간과 노력이 소요되고 있다. 본 시험에서는 이와 같은 문제를 오리 육추시 특정의 사육관리를 통한 행동학적 측면에서 해결하고자, 논 방사할 오리에 대해 각인학습과 길들이기 등 온순한 관리를 행한 순치구, 거칠고 난폭하게 관리하면서 공포심을 부여한 조폭구 및 각인학습이나 길들이기, 공포심 등 사람과의 접촉경험이 거의 없는 대조구의 3 처리구로 구분하고, 오리의 행동유형, 성장 및 벼 수량성에 대하여 검토하였다. 오리의 행동유형에 있어서 논 방사직후의 채식과 이동행동은 조폭구 및 대조구에 비해 순치구에서 가장 많았고, 방사 2주 후의 채식과 이동행동에서는 순치구 및 조폭구보다 대조구에서 증가하는 경향을 나타내었다. 사람에 대한 도피반응거리에 있어서는 순치구에서 전혀 도피반응을 보이지 않았고, 조폭구보다 대조구에서 유의적으로 길게 나타났다. 오리 포획시간은 순치구에서 가장 짧았고, 다음으로 대조구, 조폭구의 순으로 나타났으며, 오리 순치방법에 따른 증체량에서는 처리구간에 큰 차이가 없었다. 벼 결주발생율은 대조구에 비해 순치구에서 유의적으로 적었고, 수량성에 대해서는 처리구간에 유의적인 차이는 인정되지 않았다. 이상의 시험결과를 종합해 볼 때, 오리 육추시 및 논 방사시의 각인학습과 온순한 관리는 벼의 결주 발생을 경감시키고, 오리가 사람에게 쉽게 순화되어 포획하는데 소요되는 시간과 노력이 현저하게 감소되는 것을 알 수 있었다. 그러나 논에서 오리의 노동행동과 벼 수량성에는 큰 영향을 미치지 않는 것으로 나타났다.

The Effect of Soybean Galactooligosaccharides on Nutrient and Energy Digestibility and Digesta Transit Time in Weanling Piglets

  • Eight $12.4{\pm}0.6kg$ initial body weight crossbred barrows were used to determine the effect of soybean galactooligosaccharides on nutrient and energy digestibility, and digesta transit time. Four dietary treatments were utilized in this trial. Treatment one was a corn-soybean meal based diet (SBM) containing raffinose and stachyose at the levels of 0.16% and 0.75%, respectively. Treatment two (control) was a corn-HP300 (soybean concentrate protein) diet. In treatments three and four, 1.1% and 2.2% commercial stachyose was added to the control diet to provide total dietary stachyose at the levels of 1% and 2%, respectively. The soybean galactooligosaccharides (raffinose + stachyose) level in treatment one was slightly lower compared to that in treatment three. Three collection periods were run with two pigs for each treatment/period. There was a 4 d adjustment period followed by a 3 d collection period. The results showed that the nitrogen retention (86.79%) of pigs fed treatment two diet was higher than that of pigs fed treatment one by 5.2% (p<0.05). The nitrogen retention of treatment three was intermediate 83.09%. The apparent fecal digestibility of all amino acids in treatment two was numerically highest, followed by treatments three and four. However, there were no significant difference among groups (p>0.05). The dry matter (DM), organic matter (OM), crude protein (CP), and crude fiber (CF) digestibility numerically decreased as the soybean galactooligosaccharides level increased, but were not significantly different (p>0.05). Chromium content in feces (from the inclusion of 0.3% chromic oxide in the diets) differed among treatments (p<0.05) at 15 h, 18 h, and 21 h after eating. This showed that the digesta transit time was differed significantly among treatments. Treatment four was the shortest, followed by treatment three, SBM and control. The results demonstrated that in the absence of antinutritional factors and soybean antigen protein, inclusion of 1% and 2% stachyose in corn-HP300 diet has no significant effect on the digestibility of DM, OM, CP, CF and amino acids. When the soybean galactooligosaccharide level in diet one and diet three were adjusted to be almost the same, antinutritional factors such as trypsin inhibitor and soybean antigen protein could decrease the nutrient digestibility and nitrogen retention rate of diet. High levels of soybean galactooligosaccharides shortened the digesta transit time in the intestinal tract. This trial suggested that the total level of soybean galactooligosaccharides (stachyose+raffinose) in the weanling piglet diet is better not to exceed 1% when common soybean meal is used as main protein source.

교육용 건물의 GHP 냉/난방 부하의 고조파 특성에 관한 연구 (A Study on the Harmonic Characteristics of GHP Cooling/Heating Load in an Institutional Building)

  • GHP(Gas Heating Pump) 시스템은 가스 엔진으로 구동되는 압축기로 구성되는 효율적인 냉/난방기이고, 학교나 사무용 빌딩에 널리 쓰이고 있다. GHP는 느린 응답, 큰 시정수와 시간에 따라 변하는 시스템으로 제어하기가 어렵다. 이들 비선형 부하는 고조파 전류를 발생시키고, 전력계통의 정현파 전압을 왜곡시킨다. 고조파 측정 결과로 고조파는 시간에 따라 변하는 특성이 관측되었다. 시간에 따라 변하는 고조파를 해결하기 위해서 쓰이는 가장 보편적인 방법은 누적확률을 사용하는 것이다. 본 논문에서는 GHP부하의 고조파 특성, IEC 61000-3-2에 의한 고조파 평가와 사례연구 시스템의 고조파 시뮬레이션 및 고조파 필터 적용을 심도있게 다루고자 하였다.

자율주행 내시경을 위한 공압 구동방식의 이동메카니즘 (Locomotive Mechanism Based on Pneumatic Actuators for the Semi-Autonomous Endoscopic System)

  • In recent years, as changing the habit of eating, the pathology in the colon grows up annually. The colonoscopy is generalized, but if requires much time to acquire a dexterous skill to perform an operation and the procedure is painful to the patient. biomedical and robotic researchers are developing a locomotive colonoscope that can travel safe1y in colon. In this paper, we propose a new actuator and concept of semi-autonomous colonoscope. The micro robot comprises camera and LED for diagnosis, steer- ing system to pass through the loop, pneumatic actuator and bow-shaped flexible supporters to control a contact force and to pass over haustral folds in colon. For locomotion of semi-autonomous colonoscope, we suggest an actuator that is based on impact force between a cylinder and a piston. In order to validate the concept and the performance of the actuator, we carried out the simulation of moving characteristics and the preliminary experiments in rigid pipes and on the colon of pig.
