  • The magnetic jack type Control Element Drive Mechanism (CEDM) had been developed and verified through electromechanical testing including the testing of the magnetic force required to lift the control element assembly. It would become inefficient in view of cost and time for parametric studies to be performed by test to improve the CEDM system. So it becomes necessary to develop a computational model to simulate the electromagnetic characteristics of the CEDM in order to improve the CEDM design efficiently. In this paper it is presented that the electromagnetic analysis using a 2D axisymmetric FEM model has been carried out to simulate the operation of the latch magnet of the CEDM to generate a current trace for latch coil. The results show the calculated current trace is very similar to the real current trace taken from the CEDM.

  • In this paper, a dual stage servo mechanism has been developed for image tracking system to improve control performances such as small rise time, small overshoot, small settling time, small stabilization error etc. A secondary stage, a platform, actuated by a pair of electro-magnets is mounted on a conventional elevation gimbal. In this mechanism, the gimbal provides large range but slow motion and the platform provides small range but fast positioning. A sliding mode control is applied to the platform positioning to attain robust performances and stability in the presence of the disturbance related to dynamic coupling of the gimbal and the platform. Results from experiments illustrate that the suggested dual stage mechanism controlled by the sliding mode control is effective in improving responses and attenuating the disturbance response related with dynamic coupling.

  • This paper develops a adaptive fuzzy controller based fuzzy logic control for high performance speed controller in permanent magnet synchronous motor(PMSM) drives. In the proposed system, fuzzy control is used to implement the direct controller as well as the adaptation mechanism. The operation of the direct fuzzy controller and the fuzzy logic based adaptation mechanism is studied. A model reference adaptive scheme is proposed in which the adaptation mechanism is executed by fuzzy logic based on the error and change of error measured between the motor speed and output of a reference model. The control performance of the adaptive fuzzy controller is evaluated by simulation for various operating conditions. The validity of the proposed adaptive fuzzy controller is confirmed by performance results for PMSM drive system.

  • During the last few decades, excavation automation has been investigated to protect the operator from the hazardous working environment and to relieve the cost of the skilled operator. Therefore, a number of modelling and controller design methods of the hydraulic excavator are proposed in many literatures to realize the excavation automation. In this article, a geometric approach far the multi-body system modeling is adopted to develop the excavator mechanism model that contains 4 kinematic loops and 12 links. Considering a simple soil mechanism model with a number of uncertain soil parameters, an adaptive trajectory tracking control strategy based on the developed excavator model is proposed. The improved performance of the designed controller over the simple PID controller is validated via the simulation study.

  • In this paper, automatic sunvisor system is introduced for driver's safety and convenience. This system has the mechanism which keeps the sun off without obstruction of driver's sight. The mechanism can make the sunvisor move forward or rotate left while remaining inside inner roof. The control system consists of a CPU, a motor driver, light sensors, and the algorithm that can control the movement of sunvisor efficiently. When the light sensors take the sun light, they give the signal to the CPU and the CPU calculates the best position of the sunvisor with the information of driver's eyes height. Then, the CPU gives the signal to motors that can move the sunvisor.

  • In this paper, we propose a nonlinear variable PID controller using a cell-mediated immune response. An immune feedback response is based on the functioning of biological T-cells. An immune feedback response and P-controller of conventional PID controllers resemble each other in role and mechanism. Therefore, we extend immune feedback mechanism to nonlinear PE controller. And in order to choose the optimal nonlinear PID controller games, we also propose the on-line tuning algorithm of nonlinear functions parameters in immune feedback mechanism. The trained parameters of nonlinear functions are adapted to the variations of the system parameters and any command velocity. And the adapted parameters obtained outputs of nonlinear functions with an optimal control performance. To verify performances of the proposed control systems, the speed control of nonlinear BC motor is performed. The simulation results show that the proposed control systems are effective in tracking a command velocity under system variations.

  • Energy conversion systems such as power inverters and converters are basically significant in establishing photovoltaic power systems to enhance power effectiveness. This paper proposes a new converter control method by using the Lyapunov redesign approach. We construct the proposed control mechanism linearly composed of nominal control and auxiliary control laws. The former is generally designed through a well-known power electronic technology and the latter is implemented to compensate real-time control error due to uncertain natures of converter systems in practice. For realizing adaptive control capability in the proposed control mechanism, a control parameter vector is estimated by utilizing a steepest descent based optimization method. We carry out numerical simulation with Matlab(c) software to demonstrate reliability of the proposed converter control system and conduct a comparative study to prove its superiority by comparing with a generic converter control methodology.

  • This paper presents a dynamic precedence queue mechanism to resolve unexpected transmission delay of a lower priority transaction in a CAN based system which keeps a fixed priority in data transactions. The mechanism is implemented in the upper sub-layer of the data link layer (DLL), which is fully compatible with the original medium access control layer protocol of CAN. Thus the mechanism can be implemented dynamically while the data transactions are going on without any hardware modification. The CAN protocol was originally developed to be used in the automotive industry and it was recently applied for a broader class of automated factories. Even though CAN is able to satisfy most of real-time requirements found in automated environments, it is not to enforce either a fair subdivision of the network bandwidth among the stations or a satisfactory distribution of the access delays in message transmissions. The proposed solution provides a superset of the CAN logical link layer control, which can coexist with the older CAN applications. Through the real experiments, effectiveness of the proposed mechanism is verified.

  • To protect SVC(Scalable Video Coding) media, the encryption mechanism need to consider two fundamental issues; First, What is to be encrypted? Second, When encryption is performed with respect to compression? In this paper, we analyze the several encryption approaches with regard to the above issue. And we propose hybrid-based protection mechanism. This mechanism ensures the media scalability, layered access control and reuse protected content. In this experiment the proposed mechanism generates under 3% security overhead against standard scalable video coding.
