뇌압 펄스하에서 션트밸브의 압력-유량제어 특성곡선의 변화 (Changes in The Pressure-Flow Control Characteristics of Shunt Valves Under Brain Pressure Pulsation)

  • Shunt valves implanted in the subcutaneous tissue of brain to treat patient with hydrocephalus were numerically simulated to investigate influence of pressure pulsation on their flow control characteristics. Shunt valves are subjected to pressure variation since ventricles enclosing the brain are under pressure pulsation rather than uniform pressure due to blood pressure variation. We modeled flow orifice through shunt valve and imposed pulsating pressure and valve diaphragm movement to compute flow through the valve. The results of our study indicated that flow rate increased by $40{\%}$ by introducing pressure pulsation and diaphragm movement on the shunt valve. Our results demonstrate the pressure-flow control characteristics of shunt valves unplanted above human brain may be quite different from the characteristics obtained by syringe pump test with uniform pressure and no diaphragm movement.

캐비테이션 벤튜리의 유량제어 성능 (Performance of Flow Rate Control of a Cavitating Venturi)

  • Characteristics of flow rate control has been studied for a cavitating venturi adopted in a liquid rocket propellant feed system. Numerical simulation has been peformed to give about $10\%$ discrepancy of mass flow rate to the experimental data for cavitating flow regime. Mass flow rate is confirmed to be saturated for pressure difference higher than $3\times10^5$pa when the upstream pressure is fixed to $22.8\times10^5$pa and the downstream pressure is varied. The evaporation amount depends substantially to non-condensable gas concentration. However the mass flow rate characteristic is relatively insensitive to the mass fraction of non-condensable gas. So it is reduced by only $2\%$ when the non- condensable gas concentration is increased from 1.5PPM to 150PPM. From the previous comparison the expansions of the non-condensable gas and the evaporation of liquid are verified to have same effect to pressure recovery.

  • Dynamic flow characteristics of a solenoid valve are affected by pressure difference in inlet and outlet of orifice, gas temperature, and supply voltage of a coil. In this paper, the dynamic flow characteristics for deviations of various conditions are studied Static and dynamic flow for variation on-time of a solenoid valve open signal are measured in basic bench test. The solenoid valve is applied to a compressed natural gas(CNG) engine test for validation of flow control performance. The experimental results show that flow of high pressure gas can controlled precisely by using a solenoid valve.

  • The conventional control valves have been used at the locations occurring high differential pressure and high temperature which causes cavitation, flashing, severe vibration due to abrupt flow change, and sudden pressure drop. Previous studies concerning control valves focused to prevent damage of valve trim due to the internal leak and low flow rate. The newly designed helical trim of control valve has been installed at the location of high pressure change and high temperature in a power plant, and operated for evaluation. It is confirmed that the new control valve developed in this study generates flow characteristics in comparison with previous helical trim of control valves.

  • To investigate the jet effect on circulation control, a segment of model was prepared and inserted horizontally across the test section of the cavitation tunnel. The hydrodynamic forces acting on the model were measured under the 2 dimensional flow behavior. Circulation flow control requires higher flow rate of water jet than boundary layer control does. Jet injection is effective in increasing lift coefficient and the increments reach to 160% in a certain combination of parameters such as an angle of attack, jet flow rate and flap angle. The blown water jet not only reduces form drag but also thrust effect, which is sometimes greater than the form drag in specific conditions.

  • Flow control has been performed using synthetic jet on NACA23012. In order to improve aerodynamic performance, synthetic jet is located near separation paint on airfoil with leading edge droop and plain flap. The flow control using synthetic jet shows that stall characteristics and control surface performance can be improved through resizing separation vortices. Stall is delayed and stall characteristics are improved when synthetic jet is applied from separation region of leading edge droop. Control surface effectiveness is increased and lift is increased when synthetic jet applied at the flap leading edge region. The results show that aerodynamic characteristics can be improved through leading edge droop with synthetic jet at near separation and plain flap with synthetic jet at the flap leading edge. The combination of synthetic jet and simple high lift device is as good as fowler flap system.

  • In this paper, ways of improving the performances of roundabouts under the assumption that the Advanced Vehicle System is proposed. The situation on a road contains uncertainty and complexity caused by different vehicles having different directions and time-varying traffic flow. This sort of system with high uncertainty is called Multi Agent System (MAS). The MAS is a collective system, including numbers of agents and performs high diversity of the configuration as well as it has nonlinear property and complexity. Hence it is difficult to analyze and control the multi-agent system. A roundabout can be considered as an MAS with numbers of moving vehicles. So it must be difficult to use a centralized control technique to all vehicles in an intersection. Therefore, to improve the performances of roundabouts, multi-agents flow control algorithm for vehicles in Roundabouts using 'self-organization' technique is proposed.

  • The paper deals with a inverter control scheme to apply feeder flow control in the hybrid system consisted of a photovoltaic system and a fuel-cell system. The inverter operation modes and a feeder control reference is changed by changing of the loads. Simulation results using the PSCAD/EMTDC are presented to establish a inverter control method for a Feeder flow control mode.

  • Over- and under-application of pesticides to crops have recently become main concerns regarding the environment conservation, product cost and firmer's safety. Thus, a uniform and optimal application method of pesticides was needed. The objective of study was to evaluate flow compensating characteristics of a variable flow control system for a boom sprayer using a laboratory setup. At the most variable conditions, the control system was acceptable with the flowrate control strategy. However, the sprayer control system became unstably fluctuating at the long execution time with small tolerance because of the constant valve on-time. This problem was solved by employing a variable on-time control. The optimal values for the damping ratio and the execution time were 2 and 1.0 sec, respectively, with the tolerances less than 3%. The performance of the control system at the optimal conditions were the response time of 3.8sec and the absolute steady-state error of 0.5% with the stable RCV and ROS ( < 1.0).

An Interior Point Method based Reactive Optimal Power Flow Incorporating Margin Enhancement Constraints

  • This paper describes a reactive optimal power flow incorporating margin enhancement constraints. Margin sensitivity at a steady-state voltage instability point is calculated using invariant space parametric sensitivity, and it can provide valuable information for selection of effective control parameters. However, the weakest buses in neighboring regions have high margin sensitivities within a certain range. Hence, the control determination using only the sensitivity information might cause violation of operational limits of the base operating point, at which the control is applied to enhance voltage stability margin in the direction of parameter increase. This paper applies an interior point method (IPM) to solve the optimal power flow formulation with the margin enhancement constraints, and shunt capacitances are mainly considered as control variables. In addition, nonlinearity of margin enhancement with respect to control of shunt capacitance is considered for speed-up control determination in the numerical example using the IEEE 118-bus test system.
