  • An actuator system is a type of motor designed to control a mechanism operated by a source of energy, in the form of an electric current by converting energy into some kind of motion. As audio actuators, transforming electric voltage signal into audio signal, speakers and amplifiers are commonly used. In applications of industry, high output power systems are required. For these systems to generate high-quality output, it is essential to control output impedance of audio systems. We have developed an adaptable power supply for driving active amplifier systems with variable loads. Depending on the changing values of resistance of the speaker which produces audible sound by transforming electric voltage signal, the power supply source of the active amplifier can generate the maximum power delivered to the speaker by an adaptable change of loads. The amplifier is well protected from the abrupt increment of peak current and an excess of current flow.

Active Control of Noise from Fan Blowers in Tower-type Air Conditioners (타워형 에어컨 송풍기 소음의 능동제어)

  • This paper investigates active noise control of tower-type air conditioners using the filtered-x least mean square (FXLMS) algorithm to reduce fan blower noise transmission. Firstly, the main components required for the active control system including the error sensor, the control speaker and the reference sensors are selected. Since the noise could significantly reduce if the reference signal includes every frequency response information, a various reference signals from accelerometers and a microphone are used. Secondly, the controller based on the FXLMS algorithm with a single-channel reference signal is implemented. Then, the control performance is examined experimentally for the different reference signals. It is found that the accelerometer signal well possesses the motor vibration related noise and a microphone signal could includes global noise. When using the reference signal with a microphone located near the motor and the fan blower, the active control system reduces the noise globally, except for several peaks.

  • Active noise control of random noise which propatate in the vehicle cabin as a form of spherical wave is the target of this study. In the previous study, the adaptive algorithm for adaptive controller is presented for the application in active noise control system. And for the preliminary study of adaptive active noise control in vehicle cabin as a real system, a computer simulation is performed on the effectiveness of the adaptive algorithm in the amplitude of the pressure fluctuation. This work studies the implementation of multi-channel feedforward adaptive algorithm for the reduction of the noise inside a vehicle cabin using a number of secondary sources derived by adaptive filtering of reference noise source. Multi-channel adaptive feedforward algorithm are verified in numerical simulation and semi-experimental justification of developed system is made on a domestic passenger car. In the results of semi-experimental study, the noise of specific region in the interior of automobile are reduced for the appreciabe sound pressure level in the operating engine rpm and finally this study suggests the capabilities of the real time active noise control in 3 dimensional acoustic fields.

  • Active mufflers have been mainly applied in the large industrial engine due to considerable expense for implementation, but a necessity of development has been increased by the tightened regulation of exhaust noise and the request of high power. In this study, the active muffler prototype for installing in an automobile is designed and constructed. The active muffler is designed so that the primary noise and the control sound are propagated as a plane wave in the outlet. Therefore, the error microphone could be placed outside the high temperature centers of the tail pipe, and the noise radiating to the outside could be reduced in the whole areas around the outlet. For evaluating the control performance of the prototype, the control experiments of band-pass filtered random signal and the modulation of sinusoidal signal which are generated from the primary noise speaker as practical exhaust sound level are implemented. And to investigate the radiation pattern from the outlet of tail pipe and the noise reduction level of points placed adjacent to the outlet, the sound level of adjacent points of thirty is measured.

  • The most recent trend on digital hearing aid is to increase the ratio of signal to noise by directivity or to develop noise reduction algorithm inside DSP IC chip. This paper designed, fabricated and tested a digital hearing aid directivity testing device in which a micro-mouse-like the stepping motor with a speaker rotates around an examinant. Both ears of the examinant were fixed with ITE hearing aids in order to response to receiving sound. The diameter of the directivity testing device was 2 [m] and the micro-mouse was precisely controlled by PICBASIC micro processor.

Human-Robot Interaction in Real Environments by Audio-Visual Integration

  • In this paper, we developed not only a reliable sound localization system including a VAD(Voice Activity Detection) component using three microphones but also a face tracking system using a vision camera. Moreover, we proposed a way to integrate three systems in the human-robot interaction to compensate errors in the localization of a speaker and to reject unnecessary speech or noise signals entering from undesired directions effectively. For the purpose of verifying our system's performances, we installed the proposed audio-visual system in a prototype robot, called IROBAA(Intelligent ROBot for Active Audition), and demonstrated how to integrate the audio-visual system.

Speech Parameters for the Robust Emotional Speech Recognition (감정에 강인한 음성 인식을 위한 음성 파라메터)

  • This paper studied the speech parameters less affected by the human emotion for the development of the robust speech recognition system. For this purpose, the effect of emotion on the speech recognition system and robust speech parameters of speech recognition system were studied using speech database containing various emotions. In this study, mel-cepstral coefficient, delta-cepstral coefficient, RASTA mel-cepstral coefficient and frequency warped mel-cepstral coefficient were used as feature parameters. And CMS (Cepstral Mean Subtraction) method were used as a signal bias removal technique. Experimental results showed that the HMM based speaker independent word recognizer using vocal tract length normalized mel-cepstral coefficient, its derivatives and CMS as a signal bias removal showed the best performance of 0.78% word error rate. This corresponds to about a 50% word error reduction as compare to the performance of baseline system using mel-cepstral coefficient, its derivatives and CMS.

  • Near-field acoustic holography is a powerful tool to visualize sound sources. This method requires pressure measurement at many points for a good hologram. Thus one has to measure carefully so that errors due to the uncertainty of position, sensor mismatch, and so on are reduced. A method to solve this problem is to use a well-designed measurement system. This paper introduces a sound visualization system at center for noise and vibration control (NOVIC), KAIST, and addresses the advantages in terms of the error reduction. The system consists of array microphones, array jigs, a system to control the position and the velocity of the jigs, a data acquisition system, and a monitoring system. This paper also shows some sound visualization results when the system is applied to a speaker and a computer. The results verifies that the sound visualization system is useful for identifying sound sources.

  • 목적으로 하는 특정 주파수에서 고출력의 음향에너지를 방사하는 단일음 전자형 수중스피커를 설계$\cdot$제작하고자 한다. 유한요소법과 이론식을 사용하여 진동판의 기계적 공진주파수를 구한 후 이를 토대로 전자형 수중스피커를 제작하였다. 간이수조 및 해상 실험을 통하여 280Hz-285Hz에서 최대 음압이 발생되고, SL을 산출한 결과 162dB로 충분히 높은 음향 출력을 가지므로서 어류 집어용 수중스피커로 적용 가능하다는 것을 확인하였다.

Implementing Onetime Password based Access Control System for Secure Sharing Service

  • Development of ICT technologies leads exponential growth of various sharing economy over the last couple of years. The intuitive advantage of the sharing economy is efficient utilization of idle goods and services, but there are safety and security concerns. In this paper, we propose a onetime password based access control system to support secure accommodation sharing service and show the implementation results. To provide a secure service to both the provider and the user, the proposed system issues a onetime access password that is valid only during the sharing period reserved by the user, thereafter access returns to the accommodation owner. Especially, our system provides secure user access by merging the two elements of speaker recognition using voice and a one-time password to open and close the door lock. In this paper, we propose a secure system for accommodation sharing services as a use-case, but the proposed system can be applicable to various sharing services utilizing security-sensitive facilities.
