  • This paper proposes autonomous speed control strategy for an Electric Vehicle on urban road. SNU campus road is used to reperesent urban road situation. Motor efficiency of driving on campus circulation road can be improved by controlling velocity properly. Given information of campus road, especially slope of road, acceleration is selected from candidate, considering consumed power, human factor and driving time. To apply urban situation, preceding vehicle is also considered. With preceding vehicle, acceleration is defined according to clearance and relative velocity. Acceleration is bounded in normal range. Proposed acceleration control method is activated with proper velocity range for campus circulation road. With acceleration control, motor efficiency becomes better than driving with constant vehicle. To evaluate the performance of proposed acceleration controller, simulation study is conducted via MATLAB.

  • Hysteresis current regulator has been used widely because of its simple principle and structure. However, when the current band width is too narrow or the applied voltage is relatively too high, the switching frequency may increase abruptly and it generates a large amount of heat. Thus, this study will suggest a better and simple method to reduce the switching frequency. For single phase current control, the proposed hysteresis current control is executed by adding 0 mode state and comparing the slope of the current reference. This simple method decreases the generated switching frequency and significantly reduces the generated heat. This proposed method was proved with simulations and experiments comparing with the classical hysteresis current control method.

  • Recently, the study of the moving sliding mode in the variable structure control is in progress ac-tively. The conventional time-invariant sliding model control can\`t guarantee the sliding mode in the reaching phase, which is robust against the uncertainty. But with the time-varying method, the controller makes the states track the desired trajectories and keeps the sliding mode. Nevertheless, the piecewise continuous method of the past still has the reaching mode. Thus we propose the continuously moving sliding surface by the fuzzy algorithm. The proposed algorithm is made of the fuzzy rule considering both the error and the error velocity, and may apply to the entire phase plane without sacrificing sliding mode. Especially the proposed scheme can rotate tot he slope-decreasing direction, needless to say rotating to the slope-increasing direction. For showing that the proposed controller guarantees the sliding model and ensures the robustness, we apply the proposed method to the two-link robot manipulator simulation.

  • In this paper, we extend the multiple time scale control framework to window-based congestion control, in particular, TCP. This is performed by interfacing TCP with a large time scale control module which adjusts the aggressiveness of bandwidth consumption behavior exhibited by TCP as a function of "large time scale" network state. i.e., conformation that exceeds the horizon of the feedback loop as determined by RTT. Performance evaluation of multiple time scale TCP is facilitated by a simulation bench-mark environment which is based on physical modeling of self-similar traffic. If source traffic is not extended exceeding, when RTT is 450ms, in self similar burst environment, performance gain of TCP-SSC is up to 45% for ${\alpha}$=1.05. However, its is acquired only 20% performance gain for ${\alpha}$=1.95 relatively. Therefore we showed that by TCP-MTS at large time scale into a rate-based feedback congestion control, we are able to improve two times performance significantly.

  • This paper presents an application of drainage control and slope stability by GIS-based hydrological modeling to control the surface water from an operational point of view. This study was carried out on a region of Pasir open-pit coal mine, Indonesia. A detailed topographical survey was performed at the study area to generate a reliable DEM (Digital Elevation Model). Hydrology tools implemented in ArcGIS 9.1 were used to extract the characteristics of drainage system such as flow direction, flow accumulation and catchment area from DEM. The results of hydrological modeling and spatial analysis showed that current arrangement of pumping facility is not suitable and some vulnerable places to erosion exist on the bench face due to concentrated surface runoff. Finally, some practical measures were suggested to optimize the design of drainage system and to monitor the slope stability by the surface water management at the study region during heavy rainfall.

  • Purpose: This study aimed to broaden our understanding of the predisposing factor and treatment of dislocation by analyzing and evaluating the morphology of the articular eminence (AE) in subjects with temporomandibular joint (TMJ) dislocation using cone beam computed tomography (CBCT). Methods: The subjects were divided into two groups: dislocation (31 subjects) and control (32 subjects). CBCT was used to examine 126 TMJs in 63 subjects (26 males, 37 females). The height, width, and posterior slope of the AE were measured in the parasagittal plane. The posterior slope was measured using the "top-roof line angle (TR angle)" method and the "best-fit line angle (BF angle)" method. The AE on the left side (AEL) and the AE on the right side (AER) of the subjects in the dislocation group were separately analyzed and compared with the control group after taking measurements. The average value of both sides was used when comparing with subjects with bilateral dislocation. Results: Dislocations were more frequent in females (67.7%) than in males (32.3%). The dislocation group showed a gentler TR angle than the control group in the AER and in the average of AE on the both sides (AEB). The same group also showed a wider AE in the AEL and the AER (p<0.05). In subjects with unilateral dislocation, the width of the AE with dislocation was narrower and the TR angle and BF angle was steeper than the other side without dislocation (p<0.05). Conclusions: In subjects with unilateral TMJ dislocation, the posterior slope of the AE is steeper, and the width is narrower at the site of dislocation compared to the site without dislocation. However, in subjects with bilateral TMJ dislocation, AEB were wider, and the mean value of the posterior slope of AEB was gentler than that of the control group.

  • The existing measurement system to ground-surface displacement survey of the slope has been including the hazard for the measure in site and the difficulty for install, maintenance and control of expensive instruments, which are impossible of whole survey on the slope surface. To overcome of those defects, Softcopy Photogrammertry method is used, which can measure displacement of ground-surface on the slope and structure deformation vectors. Recently, the survey methods applying the advantages of Photogrammetry and Digital Photogrammetry Survey are widely used. In this study, therefore, the development and application of the new instrument mechanism on the the site example are studied. Through the application of Softcopy Photogrammetry, the 3-D data of ground surface on the dangerous slope could be effectively obtained at the long distance, which are obtained through the reform process of contour line. Those are different to the results of the Close-Range Photogrammetry analysis. In ground instrumentation parts, the new practical system shall be the technical base to improve of the instrument machine as well as can be widely applied in civil engineering and others branch.

  • The present study was carried out to examine flow properties in linear drainage channels such as road surface drainage facilities. The finite difference formulation for the varied flow analysis was solved for flow profiles in the channels. Starting the first step at the control section, the Newton-Raphson method was applied for producing numerical solutions of the equation. We considered two types of linear drainage channels, a channel with one outlet at downstream end and a channel with two outlets at both ends. Moreover, the flow analysis for various channel slopes was performed. However, we considered channels with the two outlets of slopes satisfying the condition that the both ends are the control section. The maximum of those slopes was decided from the relation between the channel slope and the location of control section. The flow of a channel with one outlet was calculated upward and downward from the control section existing in channel or upward from the control section at downstream end. The flow of a channel with two outlets at both ends were calculated for upstream and downstream channel segments divided by the water dividend, respectively and the flow analysis was completed when the water depth at the water dividend calculated from upstream end was equal to that calculated from downstream end. If the slope was larger than the critical slope, the channel with two outlets was likely to behave like the channel with one outlet. The maximum water depth was investigated and compared with that calculated additionally from the uniform flow analysis. The uniform flow analysis was likely to lead a excessive design of a drainage channel with mild slope.

  • The tunnel type spillways is under construction to increasing water reservoir capacity in Dae-am dam. The tunnel outlet was planned to be made after installing slope stabilization system on natural slope there. Generally, the tunnel outlet is made perpendicularly to the slope, but in this case, it had to be made obliquely to the slope for not interrupting flow of river. Because of excavation in condition of natural slope caused to deflecting earth pressure, the outlet couldn't be made. So, artificial ground made with concrete that it was constructed in the outside of tunnel for producing the arching effect which enables to make a outlet. We were planned tunnel excavation was carried out after artificial ground made. Artificial ground made by poor mix concrete of which it was planned that the thickness was at least 3.0m height from outside of tunnel lining and 30cm of height per pouring. Spreading and compaction was planned utilized weight of 15 ton roller machine. In order to access of working truck, slope of artificial ground was designed 1:1.0 and applied 2% slope in upper pert of it for easily drainage of water. In addition to, upper pert of artificial ground was covered with soil, because of impaction of rock fall from upper slope was made minimum. The tunnel excavation of the artificial ground was designed application with special blasting method that it was Super Wedge and control blasting utilized with pre-percussion hole.

  • Solar power generation systems require maximum power point tracking (MPPT) control to acquire maximum power using inefficient and high-cost PV modules. Most conventional MPPT algorithms are based on the slope-tracking concept. The perturb and observe (P&O) algorithm is a typical slope-tracking method. The two factors that determine the MPPT performance of P&O algorithm are the MPPT control period and the magnitude of the perturbation voltage. The MPPT controller quickly moves to the new maximum power point at insolation change when the perturbation voltage is set to large, and the error of output power will be huge in the steady state even when insolation is not changing. The dynamics of the MPPT controller can be accelerated even though the perturbation voltage is set to small when the MPPT control period is set to short. However, too short MPPT control period does not improve MPPT performance but consumes the MPPT controller resources. Therefore, analyzing the performance of the MPPT controller is necessary for actual insolation conditions in real weather environment to determine the optimum MPPT control period and the magnitude of the perturbation voltage. This study proposes an optimum MPPT control period that maximizes MPPT efficiency by measuring and analyzing actual insolation profiles in typical clear and cloudy weather in central Korea.
