  • A ship cruising in the ocean oscillates continuously due to wave action. In order to reduce the ship's roll, we developed a fin stabilizer as an anti-rolling device for a 500-ton-class high-speed marine vessel. During the development phase, it was necessary to set up control gains for the motion and hydraulic systems and assess the effectiveness of the anti-rolling performance on the ground. For this reason, a Target Simulator, which simulated the ship's motion, was given operator inputs such as the engine telegraph and waterjet deflection angle, and generated roll using a one-degree-of-freedom motion base. Hardware-In-the-Loop Simulation (HILS) was performed using the Target Simulator in order to confirm the various logics of the developed fin stabilizer, select initial control gains, and estimate the anti-rolling performance. In conclusion, it was confirmed that HILS was very helpful to develop the fin stabilizer because it could reduce the number of sea trial tests that were needed and could find many malfunctions in the factory a priori.

  • In this paper, we present FinDID (Financial Decentralized IDentity), a blockchain-based DID(Decentralized IDentity) service that can flexibly control personal information or credentials through a systematic verification method while complying with the standard service scheme of decentralized identity for the financial sector. DID is an identity management system used in a decentralized environment without a specific certification authority, and as a technology that allows users to control their own information, it can realize self-sovereignty over users' own personal information. Through FinDID, users receive credentials that authenticate their various personal information from the issuer, select only the claims required by the target financial service using their personal electronic wallet, create presentations from credentials. Then they submit it to the financial service, leading to their qualification from the service. FinDID consists of electronic wallet, credential issuer, credential storage, DID service including DID management contract and credential management contract, and financial services using this service scheme. The DID service manages each user's DID and supports all verification processes of the associated identity management scheme.

  • As distinct from a slender body, the separation of the boundary layer on a bluff body give rise to complex wakes in which various kinds of vortices form, develop and interact with each other. In this paper, we investigate cavitation wake field behind wedge shaped two-dimensional fin models. Eight different models are tested at the Chungnam National University Cavitation Tunnel (CNU-CT). First, we measure wake cavity shapes and compare with numerical results, which shows the good agreement with each other. In addition, we demonstrate that wake flow characteristics of the control fin are clearly identified by the correlation analysis of high-speed camera images and pressure fluctuation measurements.

  • In this paper, a heat pump using a Peltier device was developed for heat dissipation in a sealed electric box. The heat pump was designed with a cooling fin attached to both sides of the Peltier device, and a fan was mounted on the cooling fin on the hot side to increase the efficiency. The heat dissipation efficiency could be improved by directly connecting the electronic component having high heat to the cooling fin using a heat conducting wire. The fabricated heat pump was designed to operate only in the temperature range set by the temperature control system to improve the problem of high power consumption of the Peltier element.

  • In order for a gun-launched guided projectile to glide to the maximum range, when to deploy the fin and start flight with guidance and control should be considered in range optimization process. This study suggests a solution to the optimal guidance problem for flight range maximization of the flight model of a guided projectile in vertical plane considering the aerodynamic properties. After converting the nonlinear Multi-Phase Optimal Control Problem to Two-Point Boundary Value Problem, the optimized guidance command and the best fin deployment timing are calculated by the proposed numerical method. The optimization results of the multiple flight rounds with various initial velocity and launch angle indicate that determining specific launch condition incorporated with the guidance scheme is of importance in terms of mechanical energy consumption.

  • This paper puts forward an advanced consideration on the design of scaled multiple-gate FET (MuGFET); the aspect ratio ($R_{h/w}$) of the fin height (h) to fin width (w) of MuGFET is considered with the aid of 3-D device simulations. Since any change in the aspect ratio must consider the trade-off between drivability and short-channel effects, it is shown that optimization of the aspect ratio is essential in designing MuGFET's. It is clearly seen that the triple-gate (TG) FET is superior to the conventional FinFET from the viewpoints of drivability and short-channel effects as was to be expected. It can be concluded that the guideline of w < L/3, where L is the channel length, is essential to suppress the short-channel effects of TG-FET.

  • Container ships are prone to move at a greater speed compared to other merchant ships. The slenderness of the hull of container vessel is for better speed, but it leads to unfavorable motions. The pitch and roll are related and sometimes the vessel might be forced to parametric roll condition which is very dangerous. A fin attached to the ship hull proves to be more efficient in controlling the pitch. The fin is fitted at a lowest possible location of the hull surface and it is at the bow part of the ship. Simulations are done using proven software package ANSYS AQWA and the results are compared. Simulations are done for both regular and irregular seas and the effect of fin on ship motion is studied. P-M spectrum is considered for various sea states.

  • This paper illustrates the practical design procedure on a position control of an electrical fin actuator for the guided missile using Time Delay Control(TDC) and Enhanced Time Delay Observer(ETDO). Since TDC is robust to the model uncertainties such as the parameter variation and the external disturbance, it has been frequently used in nonlinear control systems. For a position control of an electrical fin actuator in the missile system, TDC requires the velocity sensor as well as the position sensor. To resolve the problems of the cost, the space and the malfunction due to the velocity sensor, ETDO is used as the velocity observer. ETDO is enhanced version of TDO that has the problems of the reconstruction errors and the restriction on selecting its gains. To maximize the control performance, the parameters of ETDO are optimized by using the genetic algorithm. The effectiveness of this approach is proved through a series of simulation studies and experiments, and the designed controller is compared with the typical TDC and TDC using the reduced oder observer.

  • The objective of this paper is to describe the optimization of design parameters in a large-sized commercial bus heater system by using CFD(computational fluid dynamics) analysis and Taguchi method. In order to obtain the best combination of each control factor which results in a desired performance of heater system, the parameter design of the Taguchi method is adopted for the robust design considering the dynamic characteristic. The research activity may be divided into four phases. The first one is analyzing the problem, i.e., ascertaining the influential factors. In the second phase the levels were set in such a way that their variation would significantly influence the response. In the third phase the experimental runs were designed. In the final phase the planned runs were carried out numerically to evaluate the optimal combination of factors which is able to provide the best response. In this study, eight factors were considered for the analysis: one with two level and seven with three level combinations comprising the $L_{18}(2^1{\times}3^7)$ orthogonal array. The results of this study can be summarized as follows ; (i)The optimum condition of control factor is a set of <$A_2\;B_1\;C_3\;D_3\;E_1\;F_2\;G_3\;H_2$> where A is shape of the outer fin, B is pitch of the outer fin, C is height of the outer fin, D is the inner fin number, E is the inner fin height, F is length of the flame guide, G is diameter of the heating element and H is clearance between air guide and heating element. (ii)The heat capacity of heated discharge air under the optimum condition satisfies the equation y=0.6M w here M is a signal factor. (iii)The warm-up rate improves about three times, more largely as com pared with the current condition, which results in about 9.2minutes reduction.

  • A novel selective oxidation process has been developed for low source/drain (S/D) series resistance of the fin channel metal oxide semiconductor field effect transistor (MOSFET). Using this technique, the selective oxidation fin-channel MOSFET (SoxFET) has the gate-all-around structure and gradually enhanced S/D extension regions. The SoxFET demonstrated over 70% reduction in S/D series resistance compared to the control device. Moreover, it was found that the SoxFET behaved better in performance, not only a higher drive current but also higher transconductances with suppressing subthreshold swing and drain induced barrier lowering (DIBL) characteristics, than the control device. The saturation current, threshold voltage, peak linear transconductance, peak saturation transconductance, subthreshold swing, and DIBL for the fabricated SoxFET are 305 ㎂/㎛, 0.33 V, 13.5 𝜇S, 76.4 𝜇S, 78 mV/dec, and 62 mV/V, respectively.
