This paper presents results of the effect of different bolt tightening sequences and methods on the performance of gasketed bolted flange joint using nonlinear finite element analysis. Bolt preload scatter due to elastic interactions, flange stress variation and bolt bending due to flange rotation and gasket contact stress variation is difficult to eliminate in torque control method i.e. tightening one bolt at a time. Although stretch control method (tightening more than one bolt at time) eradicates the bolt preload scatter, flange stress variation is relatively high. Flange joint's performance is compared to establish relative merits and demerits of both the methods and different bolt tightening sequences.

Since the inner barrel assembly of the Advanced Power Reactor 1400 reactor vessel is a new design feature introduced instead of CEA(control element assembly) shroud assembly, the inner barrel assembly can be a significant object of structural integrity assessment. This paper covers the structural responses of top plate, which is a component of the inner barrel assembly, against the deterministic hydraulic load induced by pump pulsation and the random hydraulic load induced by turbulence of coolant. The top plate responds to the deterministic hydraulic load more than to the random hydraulic load and shows enough structural integrity. The results of this paper will be important basis for the selection of instruments and measurement location.

Feeder arrangement is an important element of process planning for printed circuit board assembly systems. This paper newly proposes a feeder arrangement method for multihead-gantry chip mounters. The multihead-gantry chip mounters are very popular in printed circuit board assembly system, but the research has been mainly focused on single-head-gantry chip mounters. We present an integer programming formulation for optimization problem of multihead-gantry chip mounters, and propose a heuristic method to solve the large NP-complete problem in reasonable time. Dynamic programming method is then applied to feeder arrangement optimization to reduce the overall assembly time. Comparative simulation results are finally presented to verify the usefulness of the proposed method.
The Control Element Assembly(CEA) shroud is one of the most important components in the reactor vessel internals for the nuclear power plant. Because of the severe modification from its original design the structural integrity of this component has been questioned. In an attempt to resolve this question, the response of the CEA shroud to a random loading in the actual operating condition is calculated analytically and experimentally and compared to the code allowables to show that it is structurally adequate and acceptable for the long term operation.
Reactivity Initiated Accident (RIA) scenarios require special attention using advanced simulation techniques due to their complexity and importance for nuclear power plant (NPP) safety. While the conservative approach has traditionally been used for safety analysis, it may lead to unrealistic results which calls for the use of best estimate plus uncertainty (BEPU) approach, especially with the current advances in computational power which makes the BEPU analysis feasible. In this work an Uncontrolled Control Element Assembly (CEA) Withdrawal at Full Power accident scenario is analyzed using the BEPU approach by loosely coupling the thermal hydraulics best-estimate system code (RELAP5/SCDAPSIM/MOD3.4) to the statistical analysis software (DAKOTA) using a Python interface. Results from the BEPU analysis indicate that a realistic treatment of the accident scenario yields a larger safety margin and is therefore encouraged for accident analysis as it may enable more economic and flexible operation.
The magnetic jack type Control Element Drive Mechanism (CEDM) had been developed and verified through electromechanical testing including the testing of the magnetic force required to lift the control element assembly. It would become inefficient in view of cost and time for parametric studies to be performed by test to improve the CEDM system. So it becomes necessary to develop a computational model to simulate the electromagnetic characteristics of the CEDM in order to improve the CEDM design efficiently. In this paper it is presented that the electromagnetic analysis using a 2D axisymmetric FEM model has been carried out to simulate the operation of the latch magnet of the CEDM to generate a current trace for latch coil. The results show the calculated current trace is very similar to the real current trace taken from the CEDM.
There are many actuators and sensors used for attitude control system for KOMPSAT such as Reaction Wheel Assembly, Magnetic Torque Assembly, Dual Thruster Module, Solar array Drive, Three Axis Magnetometer, Conical Earth Sensor, Fine Sun Sensor Assembly, Coarse Sun Sensor Assembly, Gyro Reference Assembly and so on. For KOMPSA T satellite it has been considered using the Magnetic Torquer (MTQ) generating the magnetic dipole moment. In general, the magnetic dipole moment for satellite attitude control system is used for dumping out the excessive reaction wheel momentum so that the reaction wheel speed is not saturated. The objective of this study is to analyze the magnetic field characteristics generated by the Magnetic Torquer using the Maxwell 2D Field Simulator software. Currently, the developing model (DM) of the MTQ is being developed and manufactured at a company under the supervision of KARL MTQ is an electromagnet consisting of a ferromagnetic cylindrical core on which an excitation coil is wound. A current is passed through the coil to produce a dipole momentum in the ferromagnetic core. The configuration of the MTQ will be introduced in the presentation. The 2 dimensional model of the MTQ is drawn as axisymmetric models in RZ plane, and each corresponding material is assigned to the each MTQ object, the core, coil, and background. After the boundary conditions, current sources, and solution parameters are set up, the magnetic field intensities, directions, and other values specified by users can be calculated by using the finite element analysis. The theoretical magnetic field quantities obtained by the Maxwell 2D Simulator can be used for the basis of the development of the MTQ.

This paper presents a plant control panel model for the analysis. Seismic qualification analysis for the plant control panel is carried out to confirm the structural integrity under the seismic conditions represented by required response spectra(RRS). For the analysis finite element method(FEM) is used. And mode combinations are adopted to obtain the reliability of the spectrum analysis. The analysis results shows that the plant control panel system is designed as a dynamically rigid assembly, without any resonance frequency below 33Hz. The calculated stress of the plant control panel system is much less than yield stress of used steel.

The control element drive mechanism (CEDM) is an electro-mechanical device to control reactivity of the nuclear reactor. The conventional CEDM was installed on a nozzle of the reactor vessel closure head as an ex-vessel type. However, there have been demands for an in-vessel CEDM to fundamentally eliminate the rod ejection accident. Conceptual design of the in-vessel CEDM, which was developed based on the existing technology of the ex-vessel CEDM, is introduced in this paper.

A robust design of head gasket is pursued by using FEA model of engine assembly. Engine assembly model consists of cylinder head, block, gasket, and head bolt is constructed to understand a complex behavior of this engine compound. Thermal loading is performed on the assembled engine cylinder and block to obtain temperature field. Firing load is added to the results of heat transfer analysis to simulate the engine operation condition. Temperature filed results from heat transfer analysis are mapped into the structural mesh. Contact pressure distribution along the bead has been monitored for the engine operation condition. Based on the results obtained from the analysis, Taguchi method has been adopted for a robust design process of head gasket. Among the control factors, bolt size affects most robustness of head gasket sealing.
