Analysis of Steady Vortex Rings Using Contour Dynamics Method for the Stream Function

  • In this study, the Norbury-Fraenkel family of vortex rings is analyzed using a contour dynamics method for the stream function, which significantly reduces the numerical burden in the calculation. The stream function is formulated as the integral along the contour of the vorticity core. The integration over the logarithmic-singular segment is evaluated analytically, and the positions of the nodal points of the contour are calculated directly. The shapes of the cores and the dividing stream surfaces are found based on the mean core radius. Compared with other studies, the proposed method is verified and found to be more efficient.

  • In this paper, a new adaptive cross-coupling control (CCC) algorithm with an improved contour error model is proposed to maintain contouring precision in high-speed nonlinear contour machining. The proposed method utilizes variable controller gains based on the instantaneous curvature of a contour and the feedrate command. The proposed method is evaluated and compared with the conventional CCC for nonlinear contouring motion through computer simulations. The simulation results show that the proposed CCC improves the contouring accuracy more effectively than the existing method.

  • An algorithm has been proposed for the automatic detection of optimal epiand endocardial left ventricular borders from 2-D short axis echocardiogram which is degraded by noise and echo drop out. For the implementation of the algorithm, we modified Ballard's Generalized Hough Transform which can be applicable only for deterministic object border, and newly proposed Fuzzy Hough Transform method. The algorithm presented here allows detection of object whose exact shapes are unknown. The algorithm only requires an approximate model of target object based on anatomical data. To detect the approximate epicardial contour of left ventricle, Fuzzy Hough Transform was applied to the echocardiogram. The optimal epicardial contour was founded by using graph searching method which contains cost function analysis process. Using this optimal epicardial contour and average thickness imformation of left ventricular wall, the approximate endocardial line was founded, and graph searching method was also used to detect optimal endocardial contour.

최적 2.5D 윤곽 평행 공구경로 (An Optimum 2.5D Contour Parallel Tool Path)

  • Although the conventional contour parallel tool path obtained from geometric information has been successful to make desirable shape, it seldom consider physical process concerns like cutting forces and chatters. In this paper, an optimized contour parallel path, which maintains constant MRR(material removal rates) at all time, is introduced and the result is verified. The optimized tool path is based on a conventional contour parallel tool path. Additional tool path segments are appended to the basic tool path in order to achieve constant cutting forces and to avoid chatter vibrations at the entire machining area. The algorithm has been implemented for two dimensional contiguous end milling operations with flat end mills, and cutting tests were conducted to verify the significance of the proposed method.

In addition, a real-time federate adaptation scheme is included in the proposed CCC to regulate cutting force. The proposed method is evaluated and compared with the conventional CCC for nonlinear contouring motion through computer simulations. The simulation results show that the proposed CCC improves the contouring accuracy and regulates cutting force more effectively than the existing method.

  • 본 논문은 물 속 유충인 깔따구의 움직임을 관찰한 데이터에 Active Contour Model을 적용하여 깔따구 상태의 특징을 추출하는 방법을 제안한다. 1987년 소개된 Active Contour Model은 주어진 영상에 놓인 커브를 그 커브에 의해 분할된 영상의 에너지 값을 최소화하는 방향으로 진화하게 함으로써 영상 내 객체의 경계를 찾게 하는 영상분할 방법이다. Chan과 Vese에 의해 개선된 Model을 이용하여 다이아지논이 처리되기 전과 후의 깔따구 행동 패턴의 특징을 찾아낸다. 우선 깔따구의 움직임 궤적을 0.25초를 간격으로 관찰하여 구해진 속도벡터의 위상영상을 만든다.그리고 위상영상에 Active Contour를 두어 진화시키면서 시간에 따라 감소하는 에너지 값의 그래프에서 구해진 기울기로 깔따구 행동 패턴의 특징을 추출한다.

  • This paper describes a method for detecting a close leading vehicle using the contour of the vehi-cles rear wheels. The contour of a leading vehicles rear wheels in 속 front road image from a B/W CCD camera mounted on the central front bumper of the vehicle, has vertical components and can be discerned clearly in contrast to the road surface. After extracting positive edges and negative edges using the Sobel op-erator in the raw image, every point that can be recognized as a feature of the contour of the leading vehicle wheel is determined. This process can detect the presence of a close leading vehicle, and it is also possible to calculate the distance to the leading vehicle and the lateral deviation angle. This method might be useful for developing and LSA (Low Speed Automation) system that can relieve drivers stress in the stop-and-go traffic conditions encoun-tered on urban roads.

  • To get a good result of the feature-based stereo matching, contour of buildings must be extracted exactly. In this paper, an algorithm that extracts contour of flat top buildings exactly is proposed. The Algorithm is composed of three steps. One is to find corner points of 4 types in whole image and another is to extract exact lines between coners by edge following technique, the third is to extract exact contour of buildings using binding structures. We have a good result in extracting contour of buildings.

Numerical simulations of convergent-divergent nozzle and straight cylindrical supersonic diffuser

  • The flowfields inside a contour and a conical nozzle exhausting into a straight cylindrical supersonic diffuser are computed by solving numerically axisymmetric turbulent compressible Navier-Stokes equations for stagnation to ambient pressure ratios in the range 20 to 34. The diffuser inlet-to-nozzle throat area ratio and exit-to-throat area ratio are 21.77, and length-to-diameter ratio of the diffuser is 5. The flow characteristics of the conical and contour nozzle are compared with the help of velocity vector and Mach contour plots. The variations of Mach number along the centre line and wall of the conical nozzle, contour nozzle and the straight supersonic diffuser indicate the location of the shock and flow characteristics. The main aim of the present analysis is to delineate the flowfields of conical and contour nozzles operating under identical conditions and exhausting into a straight cylindrical supersonic diffuser.

  • Active contour로 알려져 있는 snake는 반복적인 계산으로 이미지상에서 찾고자 하는 물체의 외곽선에 수렴하는 contour로 이미지 상의 물체의 외곽선으로부터 발생하는 외부 에너지(external energy)와 contour 자체로부터 기인하는 내부 에너지(internal energy)를 최소화하는 방향으로 움직인다. 그러나 물체의 윤곽선으로부터 발생하는 외부 에너지는 찾고자 하는 물체뿐만 아니라 주위의 다른 물체로부터도 발생하므로 만일 추적하고자 하는 물체의 주변에 다른 물체들이 존재한다면 snake은 올바르게 동작하지 않게 된다. 본 논문에서는 이러한 단점을 극복하기 위하여 물체의 색상정보를 이용하는 방식을 제안하였다. 물체의 색상 정보는 물체의 고유한 특성 중의 하나로 본 논문에서는 색상정보를 이용하여 원래의 이미지를 찾고자 하는 물체의 색상과 얼마나 유사한가를 나타내는 확률 이미지로 변환하였다. 이렇게 변환된 확률 이미지 상에서 snake 알고리즘을 적용함으로써 배경의 다른 물체로부터 발생하는 외부 에너지를 효과적으로 제거할 수 있다. 또한 본 논문에서는 물체가 이동함에 따라 변화하는 색상 정보를 지속적으로 갱신함으로써 물체의 추적이 효과적으로 이루어지도록 하였다.
