  • A data stream is a series of tuples which are generated in real-time, incessant, immense, and volatile manner. As new information technologies are actively emerging, stream processing methods are being needed to efficiently handle data streams. Especially, finding out an efficient evaluation for a multi-way join would make outstanding contributions toward improving the performance of a data stream management system because a join operation is one of the most resource-consuming operators for evaluating queries. In this paper, in order to evaluate efficiently a multi-way join continuous query, we propose a novel method to decrease the cost of a query by eliminating unsuccessful intermediate results. For this, we propose a matrix-based structure for monitoring data streams and estimate the number of final result tuples of the query and find out unsuccessful tuples by matrix multiplication operations. And then using these information, we process efficiently a multi-way join continuous query by filtering out the unsuccessful tuples in advance before actual evaluation of the query.

  • To process continuous queries on a sensor network, it is required to transfer query predicates and build a query index on each sensor node. However, if we transfer query predicates to all sensor nodes, it makes the number of messages for query predicates increase. In this paper, we propose the scheme to construct the tree based relationship structure using data region of the sensor node and select the target nodes to transfer query predicates. we also implement the tree based relationship structure and measure the number of messages for sending predicates.

  • As the variant of skyline query processing, reverse skyline Queries have been studied. However, the existing methods for processing reverse skyline Queries have the limitation of service domains and spend high costs to provide various location-based services. In this paper, we propose a new reverse skyline Query processing method that efficiently processes a query with the objects in metric spaces. In addition, the proposed method also processes continuous reverse skyline queries efficiently. In order to show the superiority of the proposed scheme, we compare it with the previous reverse skyline 벼ery processing scheme in various environments. As a result, the proposed method achieves better performance than the existing method.

  • In general, algorithms to find continuous k-nearest neighbors has been researched on the location based services monitoring periodically the moving objects such as vehicles and mobile phone. Those researches assume the environment that the number of query points is much less than that of moving objects and the query points are not moved but fixed. In gaming environments, cases to find k-nearest neighbors are when computing the next movement considering the neighbors such as flocking, crowd and robot simulations. Thus, every moving object becomes a query point so that the number of query point is same to that of moving objects and the query points are also moving. In this paper, we analyze the performance of the existing algorithms focused on location based services how they operate under the gaming environments.

  • With the recent development of the ubiquitous computing technology, there are increasing interest and research in technologies such as sensors and RFID related to information recognition and location positioning in various ubiquitous fields. Especially, RTLS(Real-Time Locating Services) dealing with spatio-temporal data is emerging as a promising technology. For these reasons, the ISO/IEC published the RTLS standard specification for compatibility and interoperability in RTLS. Therefore, in this paper, we designed and implemented Spatio-temporal Query Processing Systems for efficiently managing and searching the incoming Spatio-temporal data stream of moving objects. Spatio-temporal Query Processing Systems's spatio-temporal middleware maintains interoperability among heterogeneous devices and guarantees data integrity in query processing through real time processing of unceasing spatio-temporal data streams and two way synchronization of spatio-temporal DBMSs. Web Server uses the SOAP(Simple Object Access Protocol) message between client and server for interoperability and translates client's SOAP message into CQL(Continuous Query Language) of the spatio-temporal middleware. Finally, this thesis proved the utility of the system by applying the spatio-temporal Query Processing Systems to a real-time Locating Services.

  • Moving objects in a mobile environment to change their position based on the change of time require a query with their position as a basis. Efficient Regional Decision for Continuous Skyline Queries requires objectively pre-calculating the OSR(Optimal Skyline Region) regardless of the speed and direction of the moving objects. It proposes techniques to reduce the frequency of continuous queries by choosing a VCircle(Validity Circle) as safe location which has radius of the distance to the closest region with position on the moving object at center. But, a VCircle's area varies based on the Moving object's position from first marked time of continuous query. Therefore, the frequency of its continuous query is variable and also when the object moves inside of OSR, query can re-occur frequently In this paper, we suggest a technique of selecting an IVCircle(Interior Validity Circle) in a Skyline Region as the static Safe Region using the characteristics of the OSR. An Interior IVCircle can be calculated in advance when the OSR is decided. Our experiment shows that the frequency of using IVcircle as safe region reduced than that of using VCircle as safe region by 52.55%.

  • The volume of memory to store real-time data stream is varied dynamically. Continuous queries processing the data stream must manage the storage volume dynamically. In previous research, according to current volume of data a general memory manager which allocates and releases memory by a page unit is researched. However, the method frequently executes page allocation and release to store data stream. Moreover, particularly delayed queries can monopolize many of pages because the method directly allocates pages when a query has not enough memory. Focusing on the problems in memory management systems, this research proposes a memory management method which reduces the frequency of allocation and release and uniformly distributes pages for queries. The method can reduce the frequency of allocation and release through allocation based on utilization ratio of pages in each query and prevent memory monopoly through memory allocation which considers query delay.

  • Skyline queries are an important new search capability for multi-dimensional databases. Most of the previous works have focused on processing skyline queries over static data set. However, most of the real applications deal with the dynamic data set. Since dynamic data set constantly changes as time passes, the continuous skyline computation over dynamic data set becomes ever more complicated. In this paper, we propose a multiple layer grids method for continuous skyline computation (MLGCS) that maintains multiple layer grids to manage the dynamic data set. The proposed method divides the work space into multiple layer grids and creates the skyline influence region in the grid of each layer. In the continuous environment, the continuous skyline queries are only handled when the updating data points are in the skyline influence region of each layer grid. Experiments based on various data distributions show that our proposed method outperforms the existing methods.

  • Streaming data processing is an area of interest with much research under way. There has been increasing attention on the demands for efficient processing of streaming data produced in the application areas such as monitoring and sensor network. We have developed a continuous query processing system for streaming data and evaluated its performance in this paper. XML, the standard for data exchange on the web, is used as the model for the streaming data and the XQuery appended with a time interval is adopted as the query language for expressing con-tinuous queries. In the proposed system, the result is produced through background processing and materialized for reute in subsequent query processing. Through a detailed set of performance experiments, we shoed the effectiveness of the proposed system.
