  • This paper presents a improved control technique to overcome disadvantage when the inductor current of boost converter in PV system becomes DCM(Discontinuous Conduction Mode) due to the low insolation. MPPT(Maximum Power Point Tracking) output reference voltage could not be exactly followed by conventional dual-loop PI control method used typically because of the error between the actual current and measured current. Therefore, in this paper, Hybrid controller that changes the control method in DCM and CCM(Continuous Conduction Mode), and single state feedback controller are used to compensate that problem. The proposed control technique was verified by simulation using PSIM 9.0 and experiments.

  • This paper presents a wide-range speed control scheme of brushless DC (BLDC) motors based on a hall sensor with separated low- and normal-speed controllers. However, the use of the hall sensor signal is insufficient to detect motor speed in the low-speed region because of low sensor resolution and time delay. In the proposed method, a micro-stepping current control method according to the torque angle variation is presented. In this mode, the motor current frequency and rotating angle are determined by the reference speed without the actual speed fed by the hall sensor. The detected torque angle is used to adjust the current value in a limited band to control the current value in accordance with the load. The torque angle is detected exactly at the changing point of the hall sensor signal. The rotor can follow the rotating flux with the variable torque angle. In a normal speed range, the conventional vector control scheme is used to control the motor current with a PI speed controller using the hall sensor. The torque characteristics are analyzed on the basis of the back EMF and current shape. To adopt the vector control scheme, the continuous rotor position is estimated by the measured speed and hall sensor position. At the mode changing point between low and normal speed range, the proper initial current command and reference rotor position are calculated. The calculated current command can reduce the torque ripple during transient mode. The proposed method is simple but effective in extending the speed control range of a conventional BLDC motor with hall sensor without the need for a high-resolution encoder. The effectiveness of the proposed method is verified by various experiments on a practical BLDC motor.

  • This paper presents a single switch, high step-up, non-isolated dc-dc converter suitable for renewable energy applications. The proposed converter is composed of a coupled inductor, a passive clamp circuit, a switched capacitor and voltage lift circuits. The passive clamp recovers the leakage inductance energy of the coupled inductor and limits the voltage spike on the switch. The configuration of the passive clamp and switched capacitor circuit increases the voltage gain. A wide continuous conduction mode (CCM) operation range, a low turn ratio for the coupled inductor, low voltage stress on the switch, switch turn on under almost zero current switching (ZCS), low voltage stress on the diodes, leakage inductance energy recovery, high efficiency and a high voltage gain without a large duty cycle are the benefits of this converter. The steady state operation of the converter in the continuous conduction mode (CCM) and discontinuous conduction mode (DCM) is discussed and analyzed. A 200W prototype converter with a 28V input and a 380V output voltage is implemented and tested to verify the theoretical analysis.

  • In this paper, charging modes of series resonant converter for a high voltage energy storage capacitor are compared in terms of charging time, peak resonant current, normalized peak resonant current and voltage in each operation mode. Operating principles of the full bridge series resonant converter with capacitor load are explained and analyzed in discontinuous and continuous operation mode. Based on the analysis and simulation result, $0.6{\omega}_r$ < ${\omega}_s$ < $0.75{\omega}_r$ and $1.3{\omega}_r$ < ${\omega}_s$ < $1.4{\omega}_r$ are evaluated to the best range of switching frequency for charging of an high voltage energy storage capacitor. 1.8 kJ/s SRC prototype is assembled with TI 28335 DSP controller and 40 kJ, 7 kV energy storage capacitor. Design rules based on the comparative analysis are verified by experiment.

  • Negative output elementary super lift Luo converter (NOESLLC), which has the significant advantages including high-voltage transfer gain, high efficiency, high power density, and reduced output voltage/inductor current ripples when compared to the traditional DC-DC converters, is an attractive DC-DC converter for the field of negative DC voltage applications. In this study, in consideration of the voltage across the energy transferring capacitor changing abruptly at the beginning of each switching cycle, the improved averaged model of the NOESLLC operating in continuous conduction mode (CCM) is established. The improved DC model and transfer functions of the system are derived and analyzed. The current mode control is applied for this NOESLLC. The results from the theoretical calculations, the PSIM simulations and the circuit experiments show that the improved DC model and transfer functions here are more effective than the existed ones of the NOESLLC to describe its real dynamical behaviors.

  • A FB-ZVS(Full Bridge Zero Voltage Switching) PWM DC/DC converter for electric vehicles is simulated and implemented in this paper. The converter considered is a step-down DC/DC converter with the ratings of 312/13.5V and 1.35kW. The steady state operation of this converter is divided into six operating modes in case of continuous current mode and eight operating modes in case of discontinuous current mode. Digital simulations using PSpice are carried out to verify the steady-state analysis. A prototype converter was built in the laboratory. MOSFETs were used for swithching devices and fast recovery diodes to reduce the charge storage problem of a pn-junction.

  • This paper introduces a method for design and implementation of a current controller for boost converter operating in continuous conduction mode (CCM) using a digital signal processor (DSP). A Proportional-Integral (PI) type current controller outputs an average voltage command for inductor, used in the input side of the boost converter, and the duty-ratio of PWM (pulse width modulation) signal for switching device is directly calculated from the average voltage command. The gains of the PI current controller are selected such that the current response characteristics are the same as those of a first-order low-pass filter. The proposed current control scheme is implemented using a DSP based on fixed-point math operations and an experimental study has been performed to validate the proposed method.

  • A digital state feedback control method for the current mode control of DC-DC converters is proposed in this paper. This approach can precisely achieve interleaved current sharing among the converter modules. As the controller design and system analysis are performed in the time domain, the proposed method can easily satisfy the required converter specification by using the pole placement technique. The digital state feedback controller in the continuous and discrete time domain is derived for the robust tracking control. For the verification of the proposed control scheme, a parallel module bi-directional converter in a prototype 42V/14V hybrid automotive power system, which is a design example in the continuous time domain, and a parallel module buck converter, which is a design example in the discrete time domain, are implemented using a TMS320F2812 digital signal processor (DSP).

  • This paper is studied on a novel power factor correction (PFC) AC-DC converter of high efficiency by soft switching technique. The input current waveform in the proposed converter is got to be a sinusoidal form composed of many a discontinuous pulse in proportion to the magnitude of a ac input voltage under the constant switching frequency. Therefore, the input power factor is nearly unity and the control method is simple. The proposed converter adding an electric isolation operates with a discontinuous current mode (DCM) of the reactor in order to obtain some merits of simpler control, such as fixed switching frequency, without synchronization control circuit used in continuous current mode (CCM). To achieve the soft switching (ZCS or ZVS) of control devices, the converter is constructed with a new loss-less snubber for a partial resonant circuit. It is that the switching losses are very low and the efficiency of the converter is high, Particularly, the stored energy in a loss-less snubber capacitor recovers into input side and increases input current from a resonant operation. The result is that the input power factor of the proposed converter is higher than that of a conventional PFC converter. This paper deals mainly with the circuit operations, theoretical, simulated and experimental results of the proposed PFC AC-DC converter in comparison with a conventional PFC AC-DC converter.

  • In this paper proposed a new analysis method that can be controlled DC separately excited motor using DC chopper. An analysis method can be broadly divided the state variables method and the state space averaging method. The state variable method is largely used for analysis method in the time area, but it is complicated analysis of the nonlinear circuit and modeling of the system. Therefore a boundary of the current continuous mode and discontinuous mode can be definited by the state space averaging method. Also this paper proposed a new approximation analysis method using state space averaging method in the discontinuous mode.
