  • The aim of the present investigation has, been to evaluate the depletion pattern of the supercompensated glycogen of hindlimb muscles during strenous exercise in rats. The plan of the maximizing muscle glycogen stores is based on the fact that a glycogen-depleted muscle by exercise will have an increased avidity for glycogen when exposed to a high carbohydrate diet. The glycogen concentration of soleus, red gastrocnemius and plantaris muscle, and liver was measured at 0, 30 and 60 minutes during treadmill exercise. The experimental animals were divided into 5 group - Normal(N), Control(C), 1Hour(1HR:after 1hour of glucose ingestion), 2Hour(2HR:after 2hour of glucose ingestion) and Exercise-1Hour(EX-1HR:glucose ingestion after 1 hour of preloading treadmill exercise)group - for glycogen storage study. The glycogen concentration of soleus, red gastrocnemius and plantaris muscles in N group was $4.57{\pm}0.34$, 5.11+0.24 and $6.55{\pm}0.20mg/gm\;wet\;wt.$, respectively. The glycogen concentration of soleus and red gastrocnemius in EX-1HR group were about 1.9 and 1.8 times than that of N group, respectively, but the concentration of plantaris was not higher than that of N group. The glycogen concentration of liver in N group was $41.0{\pm}1.47mg/gm\;wet\;wt.$ and the concentration of the overnight fasted C group was only 2.9% of the value of N group. The level of glycogen concentration of liver in the other glucose ingested groups(1HR, 2HR, including EX-1HR) was within 19 - 32% of that of N group. The blood glucose concentration of EX-1HR group was higher than that of N group, the plasma free fatty acid concentration of C and 2HR group was higher than that of N group, and the plasma insulin concentration of EX-1HR group was higher than that of N group. The concentrations of supercompensated glycogen of soleus and red gastrocnemius were rapidly decreased during 30 minutes of exercise but there was almost no changes of the concentration during the other 30 minutes of continuing exercise. The concentration of N group during 30 minutes of exercise was decreased but more slowly than those of EX-1HR group. The remaining level of glycogen after 60 minutes of exercise in EX-1HR group was higher than that of N group. Taken together, the mobilization of endogenous muscle glycogen at the first stage of exercise was proportioned to the initial level of glycogen concentration, and later on, when exercise continued, the muscle glycogen level was stabilized. And the remaining level of supercompensated muscle glycogen after 60 minutes of exercise was higher than that of normally stored glycogen level. The mobilization of the glycogen stroed in slow and fast oxidative muscle fibers is faster than in the fast glycolytic muscle fibers during strenous exercise.

  • This study attempted to illustrate in-depth light on the process of experiencing the campus life of university life of students specialized in golf who are forming new exercise culture in a transitional state students based on the grounded approach. For this, it selected 10 athletic students as research participants majoring in golf in A University in Chungcheong-do and collected data through in-depth interviews. As for the data analysis, the coding paradigm was composed to derive concepts and clarify the relations between concepts according to the grounded theoretical analysis suggested by Strauss and Corbin (1990), and the research results are as follows: First, 117 concepts, 16 subcategories, and 10 upper categories were deducted in the open coding. Second, the causal conditions were categorized into "University Life of Contactless Classes," contextual elements into "Practical Exercise," and "Participation in Classes," and the central phenomenon was regarded as the "Meaning of University Life as a University Athletic Student (golf)." As a result of reviewing the process of exercise and study at the same time, the conditions of arbitration were summarized as "Relation Formation" and "Ability Improvement," and the action/interaction strategies were categorized as "Academic Research" and "Negative Thinking," and at last, the results were composed of "Looking Back at the Past University Life," "Identity," and "Future Design." Based on these research results, the model of doing exercise and study at the same time of the university athletic students (golf) was categorized by the grounded theoretical paradigm procedure, and the university athletic students (golf) continued their university life without rest as their exercise life was influenced positively by academic life, and in addition, policy implications for enhancing the competency of student athletes who can encompass both exercise and study were presented.

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study was to investigate the relationships among health behavior, wellness condition, and stage of change in health behavior by risk of cardiocerebrovascular diseases (CVD) in male office workers. Methods: A total of 205 male office workers participated in the 2017 National Health Examination at a manufacturing/ R&D business in Seongnam and completed self-reported questionnaires. Results: There were significant differences in health behavior scores by risk of CVD (F=4.78, p=.009) and statistically significant differences in no smoking (F=5.86, p=.003), exercise (F=5.49, p=.005), and health checkup (F=4.39, p=.014). There were statistically significant differences in health behavior (t=-4.14, p<.001) and wellness condition (t=-2.61, p=.010) by the stage of change in health behavior. Health behavior had a weak positive correlation with wellness condition (r=.36, p<.001). Logistic regression analysis showed that, when adjusted for age and employment period, the probability of becoming attention or risk group was 11% lower for quitting smoking (OR 0.89, 95% CI 0.81~0.97, p=.006) and 18% lower for regular exercise (OR 0.82, 95% CI 0.70~0.95, p=.009). Conclusion: The direction of health management at the workplace should be changed to promote the wellness of all workers, not the management of the disease, and a health promotion program should be continued to emphasize health behaviors such as smoking cessation and regular exercise.

  • As the aging population has increased, the silver generation is getting to account for the considerable percent of economic activities and becomes the main body of production and consumption. Although the economic activity of silver generation is increased, the development of silver contents for the leisure activities is still not revitalized. The serious silver contents and the easy-to-use interface are very important because the silver generation is relatively weaker than young people in perception, studying, and exercise, and is fragile in mobility and vitality. This paper suggests methods to develop sensory bicycle, gate ball, and mole game contents haying lower body exercise effects for the silver generation to utilize leisure and maintain health. Along with fun as games, functional design factors suitable to the cognitive ability and bodily activity ability of the silver generation were considered and through sensory intefaces that are easy for the silver generation to use and customized progressing methods complying with individual characteristics, it was attempted to induce continued interests and lower body exercise effects.

  • The development of acidosis during intense exercise has traditionally been explained by the increased production of lactic acid which causes the release of a proton and the formation of the acid salt sodium lactate. Through this explanation, when the rate of lactate production is high enough to exceed cellular proton buffering capacity, cellular pH is decreased. This biochemical process has been termed lactic acidosis. This belief has been an interpretation that lactate production causes acidosis and fatigue during intense exercise. However, this review provides clear evidence that there is no biochemical support for lactate production causing acidosis and fatigue. Metabolic acidosis is caused by an increased reliance on nonmitochondrial ATP turnover. Lactate production is essential for muscle to produce cytosolic $NAD^+$ to support continued ATP regeneration from glycolysis. In addition, Lactate production consumes protons. Although lactate accumulation can be a good indirect indicator for decreased cellular and blood pH, that is not direct causing acidosis.
