  • The effect of the nitrogen content of sawdust medium (1.2~1.8%) and the restriction stage temperature (2, 4, and 6℃) on the growth and storage characteristics of Flammulina velutipes (winter mushroom) were investigated. With increased nitrogen content, the growth days shortened and the yield of the fruiting body increased. The effect of restriction temperature on the growth of the fruiting body differed depending on the nitrogen content. No difference in restriction temperature was evident for T1 with a low nitrogen content of 1.28%. In medium with a nitrogen content ≥1.55%, the yield and length of the pileus and stipe increased as the restriction temperature decreased. The weight loss ratio according to the storage period did not change according to the nitrogen content in the medium. A low weight loss ratio of 1.50 to 1.93% was observed at a restriction temperature <4℃. When T3 with high nitrogen content in the medium was treated at a restriction temperature of 4℃, the fruiting body color values after 31 days of storage were 84.81 (L) and 6.3 (ΔE). This color change was minute compared to that after other treatments. The sensory characteristics score was 5.2 after 31 days of storage, and the quality remained acceptable for consumption.

  • In order to detect the way of absorption and metaboism of the urea it is sprayed on the surface of the leaves of sunflower. The sunflowers used in this study are grown in different conditions such that the one in nittogen aboundant and the other in nitrogen deficient soil, respectively. The urea-N, ammonia-N, amide-N, and 80% alcohol soluble-N in the leaves were quantitatively determined. All of the nitrogenous components measured are generally tended to increased with rising the concentration of urea except only amide-N at 24 hours after sprayed, and these were highly significances. It seemed that hydrolizing of urea into ammonia and carbon dixide and the assimilation of ammonia into other organic nitrogenous constituents were rapid in the young leaves than in the mature. It is interest that the amide content, in the young leaves and nitrogen defieient one were enhanced with the increasing concentration of urea, although in the mature leaves it did not show any change in the urea treatment. It is presumed that the assimilation rate of ammonia and the urease activity were lower in the matture leaves than in the young and nitrogen deficient leaves. No significance at 5% level showed all of the nitrogenous components except total nitrogen between nitrogen abundant and deficent leaves. Urea content was a high peak at first 12 hours, ammonia at 48 hours, and amide and alcohol soluble nitrogen at 96 hours, whence decrease4d the content of these constituents gradually. The total nitrogen content is not incrased obviously by only one time of urea spray in this study. When the concentration of urea was relatively high there appeared the wilting spots on t도 edge of leaves. As a whole, it seemed that sprayed urea was rapidly absorbed and taken part in nitrogen metabolism within relatively short period.

  • This study was conducted to evaluate the influence of fertilization on characteristics of growth and accumulation of anthocyanin in fruit of Omija (Schisandra chinensis Baillon). Nitrogen supply mainly affected growth of fruit and the anthocyanin content in Omija respective of vegetative growth steps. The anthocyanin content in fruit was significantly low in high N supply and non-fertilization. The conjunctive supply of nitrogen and compost tea resulted in a higher anthocyanin content of fruit, total nitrogen content of leaf, and nitrate in soil. This result implies that nitrogen supply to Omija plant, affects the accumulation patterns of anthocyanin in different ways, e.g. it delays the quantitative biosynthesis at low nitrogen supply during fruit maturation or enhances anthocyanin degradation during the final maturation steps.

  • The experiment was canied out to investigate the effects of cutting frequencies (3, 4 and 5 cuts per year) in relation to fertilization of mineral nitrogen on crude protein yield and the contents of crude protein and acid detergent fibre in orchardgms(Dacty1is glomerata L.). Tne results are as follows : 1. The content of crude protein increased according to the increase in cutting frequency and showed the highest in the 1st cut in all treatments. At 4 and 5 cutting frequencies per year, the content of crude protein increased in a large extent according to the increased fertilization of mineral nitrogen. However at 3 cutting frequency, the content of cmde protein appeared higher for no application of mineral nitrogen than for the treatments with fertilization. 2. 'Ihe content of acid detergent fibre(ADF) was considerably reduced at 4 and 5 cutting frequencies and in all treatments, the lowest were recorded in the 1st cut or in the last cut. At 3, 4 and 5 cutting frequencies, the highest ADF were shown in the 2nd cut, 3rd cut and 3rd cut respectively. However, the general trend was that the content of ADF was greatly reduced according to increased level of mineral nitrogen fertilization. 3. The yeild of cmde protein was the highest at 5 cutting frequency(l.2 ton DMIha) and it indicated that the yield of cmde protein increased in accordance to the increase in fertilization of mineral nitrogen and cutting frequency. 4. In all treatments, positive correlation(p<0.001) between the yeilds of crude protein and annual dry matter yield appeared. Negative correIation(p

  • A biuret method by Johnson and Craney (1971) was slightly modified and applied to the multiple analysis of nitrogen in brown rice. The results were compared with those by the dye-binding method to see if the former be applicable to the determination of higher nitrogen content in rice. The nitrogen content of rice samples ranged from $1.2{\sim}2.0%$. The correlation between biuret absorbance and nitrogen content was highly significant; its correlation coefficient being 0.841. The biuret method, however, showed rather lower correlation coefficient in case of high nitrogen samples.

  • The effect of H2:N2 gas ratio on the case thickness hardness and nitrides formation in the sur-face of SCM440 machine structural steel have been studied by micro-pulse plasma process. The thickness of compound layer increased with the increase of nitrogen content in the gas com-position. The maximum thickness of compound layer the maximum case depth and the maximum surface hardness were about 15.8${\mu}m$, 400${\mu}m$ and Hv765 respectively in the nitriding condition of 250Pa and 70% nitrogen content at $520^{\circ}C$ for 7hrs. Generally only nitride phases such as ${\'{\gamma}}$($Fe_4N$)$\varepsilon(Fe_2}{_3N}$ phases were detected in compound and diffusion layer by XRD analysis. The amount of $\varepsilon(Fe_2}{_3N}$ phase increased with the increase of nitrogen content. The relative amounts and kind of phases formed in the nitrided case changed with the change of nitrogen content in the gas composition.

  • The effect of rare earth(RE) at three difference levels of nitrogen on the growth and nitrate content of chicory (Cichorium intybus L.) were studied in terms of leaf size, fresh and dry weight increase, and chlorophyll and nitrate content grown in plastic pots within glasshouse. Leaf size was enlarged as the level of nitrogen applied was high, and leaf within, length, and thickness of leaf were increased by RE treatment showing significant difference at high nitrogen(N+1) plot. As the level of nitrogen applied was high, as fresh and dry weight per plant was increased significantly(p<0.05), and sprinkling cabbage with RE increased fresh and dry matter yield to 2∼12, 4∼6.2% more, respectively. Dry matter content of Chinese cabbage was increased by RE sprinkling. At all levels of nitrogen fertilized chlorophyll contents were increased by RE treatment. As the level of nitrogen was high, as the content of chlorophyll was highly increased by RE. Nitrate was accumulated more at high level of nitrogen application, but nitrate was decreased by RE application, 40% decrease at very high nitrogen plot(N+2). RE stimulated the growth of chicory with high chlorophyll content, and showed the possibility producing high quality agricultural products low in nitrate content.

  • To intensively analyze and examine the changes in palatability of cooked rice and structural properties of rice grains influenced by increased nitrogen topdressing during the panicle formation and ripening stage, a series of experiments were carried out using three japonica rice cultivars with contrasting rice quality characteristics. The protein content of brown rice increased maximally up to $35{\sim}47%$ of that in standard N6 plot with the increase in nitrogen topdressing fertilizer during 20 days before heading to 10 days after flowering. The high-yielding rice cultivars showing poor palatability of cooked rice revealed larger increase in protein content of rice grains by increased nitrogen topdressing. Under the same nitrogen level of 15 kg per 10a with nitrogen topdressing at 3 kg/10a, high-yielding rice cultivars, Yumehikari and Reihou showed the significant increase in protein content of brown rice when topdressing was applied at 10 days after flowering as compared with when it was applied at 30 days after transplanting. Although the variation in amylose content of milled rice as affected by nitrogen topdressing level was relatively small, it decreased within 1% with the opposite tendency against increased protein content of brown rice by increased nitrogen topdressing. The total score of sensory evaluation was higher in the order of Hinohikari < Yumehikari < Reihou in panel test. It decreased significantly by increased amounts of nitrogen topdressing during 20 days before heading to 10 days after flowering when nitrogen level was higher than 12 kg/10a. The more poor palatable rice cultivar in panel test revealed the larger decreasing in total score of sensory evaluation by higher nitrogen topdressing rates. All sensory evaluation components were largely affected by the change in protein content of brown rice rather than amylose content of milled rice. The influence of protein content to palatability of cooked rice was larger in poor-palatable rice than in high-palatable rice. The protein content decreased drastically from outer layer to inner layer of rice grains, while the amylose content increased on the contrary. The high-palatable rice exhibited higher distribution of protein content on bran layer but lower distribution of protein content on the layer of polished rice as compared with the poor-palatable rice. Especially, the high-palatable rice showed also significantly lower distribution of amylose content on the outer layer of polished rice as compared with the poor-palatable rice.

  • Treatments with increased amount of nitrogen fertilizer had less calcium content than those of conventional fertilization in 'Starkrimson' apple fruits. When $CaCl_2$ solution was applied as tree spray, treatment of conventional fertilization had increased fruit calcium content and decreased occurrence of spotted disorders. Better in increasing fruit calcium content was secured in treatment of conventional nirtogen fertilization. The irrigation effect to sandy loam soil where 'Fuji' apple fruits were planted were observed in fruit enlargement and increase of calcium content in leaves and fruits.

  • The objective of this study is to obtain the basic data for investigating the effects of organic reserves on winter survial or regrowth yield. Dry matter, nitrogen and non-structural carbohydrate content of plants grown under $5^{\circ}C$ or $20^{\circ}C$ of culture temperature during 25 days were investigated. The dry matter content of leaves and roots were significantly reduced under $5^{\circ}C$ compared with $20^{\circ}C$culture condition. Comparing with the dry matter per plant under $20^{\circ}C$, those in leaves and roots under $5^{\circ}C$ decreased to 25% and 10%, respectively, after 25 days of temperature treatment. Total nitrogen content in leaves under $20^{\circ}C$ and $5^{\circ}C$ increased to 68% and 39% compared to the initial lenel(day O), respectively, during 25 days after temperature treatment, Nitrogen content in roots highly increased under 5 C while there was a little change under $20^{\circ}C$ condition. The nitrogen contents in roots under $5^{\circ}C$ and $20^{\circ}C$ were 39.0 and 30.8mgJg DM, respectively, after 25 days of temperature treatment. Total contents of soluble carbohydrate in both leaves and roots under $5^{\circ}C$ were higher than those under $20^{\circ}C$ condition. After 25 days of temperature treatment under$5^{\circ}C$ , their contents in leaves and roots were 1.4 and 2.0 times higher than those of under $20^{\circ}C$ condition. Stach atent in roots under $20^{\circ}C$ was less changed, while thatof under $5^{\circ}C$ greatly increased from 64.8 to 178.7mglg DM duling 25 days. 'Ihese results clearly showed that an accumulation of both nitrogen and non-structural carbohydrate in the plants occured under low temperature condition.e condition.
