Consumers'frequent use of micronutrient supplements has caused concerns o possible overdoses and prompted the view that the appropriate provision of nutrition information on such supplements is needed. In this study the nutrition information on vitamin-mineral supplements in Korea was evaluated based on the labels on the supplements. Consumers'use, reliance on and demand for nutrition information were examined by self-administered questionnaire. Subjects were 1,203 middle-aged housewives. Under examination were 141 multinutrient products (86.6%) and single nutrient products (13.4%). Various names and units were used for the same nutrient and the labels were not informative to consumers. The mode of nutrients contents in the supplements were several fold of RDA though not in the range of toxicity. %RDA value was seldom shown on the label. Currently these supplements are classified as general drugs in Korea so they are not subject to regulations on nutrition labeling. Half of the subjects read the nutrient content list but two-thirds of them did not understand the information. Numerous health claims related to diseases were listed on the label and more than half of the subjects read them and one-third believed those health claims. These results indicate the need for an appropriate format for nutrition information on vitamin-mineral supplements.

Absorbent Biofilter Systems (ABS), composed of an anaerobic septic tank, a pump chamber and an absorbent biofilter tank, have been found to economically provide rural on-site wastewater treatment. This study was conducted to assess the potential of ABS effluent as an alternative water resource for agricultural and environmental use, with respect to the removal of pathogenic microorganism and their fertilization effect. A pilot scale ABS was used to compare its removal efficiency of pathogens from effluent water. Overall, more than 95 percent of Salmonella and E. coli were removed. This result demonstrates that a significant reduction in the pathogenic microorganism of effluents can occur in ABS, which implies the feasibility for the use of ABS effluent in agriculture and environment, with the provision of a further simple disinfection step, in order to satisfy the WHO guidelines for the microbiological quality in agriculture. In addition, because of the abundant nutritional content of ABS effluent, the substitution effect of fertilizer (N, P and K) in paddy irrigation, i.e. 2/3 for nitrogen, l/3 for phosphorus and 1/5 for potassium would be expected. Based on the experimental data, the ABS effluent could be used as a new alternative water resource for paddy irrigation, as well as for environmental purposes, such as supplying water to ecological parks in rural villages.

In comparison to the services provided by the typical information systems, the historical records from the period before the modern times require additional information services to reflect the format and content oriented peculiarities of the data. The additional services also need to be considered in light of the users' information needs. For this study, a series of literature reviews was conducted to present the specific analysis criteria for the historical information services. Based on these criteria, the domestic and foreign historical information service provision and use status was investigated. In addition, users' information needs were identified and user-based historical information service improvement suggestions were generated.

To expand the use of three dimensional(3D) product modelling in the army, we have analyzed military technical data management system, as well as the military guidelines for the unique format and content of technical data package. Because traditional munition sector is based on the machinery and equipment industry, they have usually applied two dimensional(2D) drawings to prepare a design and to make a product. For that reason, there is no provision for 3D product modelling as a technical data package in the military guideline. In this study, we proposed an improvement scheme for the vitalization of 3D product modelling in the army not only in terms of related guideline but also military technical data management system.
This study intends to provide foundational data for enhancing the welfare of customers purchasing digital products through analyzing the notes from written on-line reviews. The data used for the analysis are 6,342 on-line reviews for cell phones and digital cameras released from November, 2007 until April, 2008, which was posted on Naver Knowledge Shopping from November, 2007 until June, 2008. Through the on-line reviews, this article analyzed the evaluations on the digital products' hardware, software, design, service, price, and other criteria and the customers' emotional experience in the process of purchase, use, and possession. According to the results of the analysis, negative evaluation and emotional experience were originated from the company's information provision methods and purchase process. In addition, insufficient information searches in the process of online purchases, consumers' low right consciousness, and impolite on-line reviews were also problematic. Customers' evaluations and emotional experiences on digital products were conducted in a complex way. Based on that, this research makes suggestions in the company's marketing, customer education, and theoretical aspect.

Purpose: The purpose of this study was to evaluate effects of foot care education on foot pain, foot care compliance, and disability of daily living for people with rheumatoid arthritis involving the feet. Methods: This study was conducted as a randomized controlled trial. The participants were 49 patients, including 24 in the experimental group and 25 in the control group. The experimental treatment was the provision of foot care education leaflets and 20-minute 1:1 explanations of the content of the leaflet. After 2 weeks, foot care compliance was confirmed by phone call. The experimental effects were assessed by measuring changes in foot pain, foot care compliance, and disability of daily living using a pre test before the foot care education and a post test, 1 month after the foot care education. Results: Foot pain and disability of daily living in the experimental group decreased more than that of the control group. Foot care compliance in experimental group increased more than that of the control group. Conclusion: Results indicate that this foot care education program is an effective intervention to decrease foot pain and the disability of daily living, and increase the foot care compliance in patients with rheumatoid arthritis involving the feet.
Purpose: This study was conducted to explore the meaning and contents of high-quality aged care facilities and provide basic data for evaluation of service quality in such facilities. Methods: The focus group interviews and participants consisted of two user groups, for a total of 16 family caregivers of the elderly living in facilities and four service provider groups, for a total of 26 chief managers and caregivers working in aged care facilities. All interviews were recorded and transcribed as they occurred. Content analysis was used and debriefing notes were referred to in order to analyze the data. Results: Four themes of a high-quality aged care facility emerged from the analysis; 1) a place to rest for comfortable later years; 2) systematic value-based management; 3) providing professional care; 4) comprehensive service provision in response to diverse needs. Conclusion: The findings of the study showed the importance of client centered care and ethical mindset of providers, which had not been included in the existing quality evaluation programs. Based on these results, medical treatments, end-of-life care and more comprehensive and extended services including family care need to be provided in facilities to ensure good quality aged care.
The purpose of this research was to develop a nursing intervention list for family caregivers. The specific steps were as follows : 1. Analyze the concept, Soobal, based on literature review and case observation. 2. Generate an initial list of defining activities for ‘Caregiver Support : Soobal’. 3. Validate the defining activities. 4. Complete the final list of defining activities. A two-round Delphi questionnaire with an adaptation of Fehring's methodology was used to establish the content validity of intervention, Caregiver Support : Soobal. The definition of ‘Caregiver Support : Soobal’ was provision of the necessary information, advocacy, and support to facilitate primary patient care by someone other than a health care professional in Korean traditional manners. Ten nurse experts participated in Round I and II of this study. They were asked to rate activities that examplified the interventions on a scale of 1 (activity is not at all characteristic) to 5 (activity is very characteristic). Round I contained 15 ‘critical’ activities and 10 ‘supporting’ activities, while round II contained 16 ‘critical’ activities and 6 ‘supporting’ activities. No activities were considered to be ‘nonsupporting’ in both round I and II. Finally, the definition and 25 defining activities were developed. Intervention, Caregiver Support : Soobal, attained an ICV score of .82. This study provides a protocol model to develop Korean nursing interventions.
Purpose: The purpose of this study was to analyze the experiences of acute care hospital nurses' on spiritual care with focus group interviews. Methods: Data were collected from 24 nurses recruited from one acute-care hospital in a southern province of Korea. Six focus groups were assembled considering age and religion. All interviews were recorded and transcribed. Data were analyzed using qualitative content analysis. Results: Five categories with 14 sub-categories emerged: 1) ambiguous concept: confusing terms, an additional job; 2) assessment of spiritual care needs: looking for spiritual care needs, not recognizing spiritual care needs; 3) spiritual care practices: active spiritual care, passive spiritual care ; 4) outcomes of spiritual care: comfort of the recipient, comfort of the provider; and 5) barriers to spiritual care: fear of criticism from others, lack of education, lack of time, space constraints, and absence of a recording system. Conclusion: Participants perceived spiritual care as an uncertain concept. Some participants recognized it as a form of nursing care, and others did not. They practiced spiritual care in acute-care settings according to their personal perceptions of spiritual care. Therefore, in order to perform spiritual nursing in acute-care hospitals, it is a priority for nurses to recognize the concept of spiritual nursing accurately. It is also necessary to prepare a hospital environment suitable for the provision of spiritual care.
