As interest in eco-friendly architecture and Korean traditional culture is increasing, interest in contemporary han-ok is steadily increasing. Recently, many people experienced the han-ok directly and indirectly with the attention of a commercial contemporary han-ok such as restaurants, coffee shops, and lodging facilities, and as a result, the house has a preference for the residence of the contemporary han-ok. Compared to modern residential houses, however, han-ok is lack the convenience of heating and cooling, energy management, security, and maintenance. For this reason, the increased interest and preference for han-ok does not lead to living in contemporary han-ok. This study was conducted in the following ways to improve inconvenience by applying smart home services to contemporary han-ok. Recent technology trends in smart home services and technologies developed and marketed to date have been identified in previous research cases and literature studies. Based on this, a list of smart home services and their application methods were derived that would relieve the inconvenience of contemporary han-ok for smart home services. We hope that this research will serve as a reference for subsequent researchers studying contemporary han-ok.
Theatre for young people which have been barely survived after 1990's are attracting new attention because the systemic production of Theatre for young people by establishment of theatre for young people institute in national theatre company has affected and the influence of adolescent on society has been increasing. It brought the phenomenon that theatre for young people becomes young writers' first work. The national chaggeuk company of Korea firstly showed the work which can be described as theatre for young people in 2013. It seems to be meaningful to examine how the critical mind of theatre for young people is expressed in changgeuk because its writer and director are all experts on theatre for young people and theatre for young people takes a part among vigorous experiments of changgeuk. This study starts with the premise that it is necessary to examine the meaning and the direction because it's the first theatre for young people. It can have positive review because it highlights the present meaning of tradition which channgeuk has by contemporary questioning and it keeps the identity of channgeuk by making it focused on rhythm despite various musical attempts. However, it seems to be solved that it weakened the possibility of voluntary playgoing by putting distance to audience with emphasis of dramatic aspect and curtail of commentary. As the way to solve this problem, it is suggested to be an effective strategy to set the goal direction and repeat various description.

In this study, we analyzed the process of the housing reflecting the self, based on the qualitative data that people describe their thoughts about their housing in social media 'online-housewarming'. Especially, based on the precedent study that modern self is established on continuous selection behavior, we focused on the selection behavior of the self and the role of the housing that affected it through the narrative. Each narrative component corresponds to the self-establishment process of modern people, identified through precedent study. We can confirm the existing internal criteria changing into new internal criteria through accumulation, interaction and nonverbal communication of selection by housing. Housing has been involved in the selection behavior of self throughout the narrative. From this, it can be seen that the thought of the self and housing are identified in three ways. In 'Online-Housewarming', (1) Housing equates with the self, in the sense that housing is a physical entity in which one's own choices are accumulated (2) People perceive the change of choice caused by the realistic constraints of housing as their interaction with housing. (3) People relate the opinions of others about housing with the opinions about their own self. In contemporary society, house reforming process is a process of mediating the self and the external world based on the selection behavior and affects the establishment of self.
The purpose of this study is to investigate historical and geographical environments in the development of the Naxi costumes of Chinese ethnic minorities and their characteristics-including religious cultures and totem worship-and to suggest the direction of fashion design toward the modernization of traditional costumes. The research methodology involved the collection of materials and investigatation into the history, culture, and characteristics of Naxi costumes; in particular, the "seven-star" sheepskin cape, one of the Naxi people's important ethnic costumes as demonstrated by the women's clothing that has been designed in reflection of this traditional costume. The results are as follows. First, Naxi costumes are found to have overall coherence and distinct locality when retained in the process of modernizing the traditional costume. The theme of this work is titled "By the Light of the Moon and the Stars," which is expressed in contemporary fashion by the use of grey and dark red against a background of black, a color preferred by the Naxi people. Second, the Naxi people's seven-star sheepskin cape is a symbol of women's clothing with its characteristic patterns, shapes, and colors, and it is subject to creative modernization while retaining its unique ethnic characteristics. Third, the work expresses the contemporary stylishness of the costume while maintaining the customary decorative accessories from the Naxi people's traditional culture.
One of critical issues in the housing area is what strategies should be adopted for revitalizing contemporary communities in housing complex. It is expected that those strategies could encourage neighbourship and recover the existing community spaces. Based on the assumption that contemporary communities might have different characteristics from those of the traditional communities and spaces, this research aims to explore the possibility of new communities in a current context. With the development of the information communication technologies (ICT) and hardware systems, the environment would be capable of anticipating people's needs and then provide them with customization options to tailor the environment to their requirements. By incorporating the 'smart' paradigm, this paper introduces the concept of a smart community and space with the potential of mobile Augmented Reality(AR) as alternative strategies for activating the communities. The residents believe that existing common spaces need to be extendable and augmented by combining new technologies. The smart communities and spaces are expected to extend people's interaction to virtual world in aj real context, further combined with social network, it enables sustainable relationships among residents, contributina to a new type of community.
The researcher has tried to develop the aesthetic value of the art and the function of metalwork in conjunction with our daily life. especially has been eager to develop the new possibility of metal urns through the investigation of ordinary metalwork. Funeral urns are vessels to fill the ashes of bodies. As the social issues, including problems of restricted land territory and environmental pollution are awakening, many people are much concerned about the use of urns in recent days. Although social concerns about cremation and urns are getting high, most urns in Korea have been made of ceramic and stone. The shape of old urns are pot style with lids, and their color is simple white or jade green. Moreover, old urns are expensive, unpractical, simple, and furthermore, the feature of urns has not preserved the sense of beauty. In this context, we have narrow choices to select urns, and it has been difficult for us to be familiar with the old-style urns. Therefore, the need for developing metal urns are necessary as the increase of public concerns towards cremation is widely spreading. As it is well known, metal is not only regarded as hard, antibacterial, pro-environmental material , but also regarded as good substance for urns. Metal is also suitable for making urns because of metal's characteristics of easy processing, mass production, and cheap price. The researcher has been tried to find the possibility of art of metalwork through the dissemination of metal urns to the public. The researcher has also attempted to represent the characteristics and symbolic implications of contemporary metal urns for ordinary people to adopt metal urns as their 'Rite Haven'.

Throughout the Chinese sphere, that is, in the People's Republic of China and Taiwan, tea houses, tea stores, and tea meditation groups often without a particular religious orientation have appeared in the past decades. Tea lovers groups with various philosophical discussions appear throughout cyberspace, where people show their appreciation for tea as a drinkable delicious product and a spiritual tool. The question to be asked here is whether it should be recognized as a religious or spiritual practice agent in and of itself? Should we then talk about the present-day movement of teaism? If we do recognize this as a spiritual phenomenon, should it then be labeled as a New Religious Movement? The trajectory of tea in China is intrinsically connected to religious traditions. This connection is historical, yet it plays a part in the contemporary religious and spiritual sphere. The article explores the continuation and developments of tea culture in the context of the religious sphere of China, looking at practices connected to tea of communities, religious organizations, and individuals. The author explores how tea drinking, commercializing and tea related practices intersect with politics, materiality, and spirituality in contemporary society. In this context it is then argued that tea is a cultural element, religious self-refinement tool, and an active material agent with social-political capacities. The study includes historical narratives, ethnographic data, and literary sources about tea, making up a genealogy of tea which encompasses ritualistic aspects, economic aspects, and power relations related to tea in Chinese society.
There is growing tendency to find rest in one's own space for senses of isolation and loneliness were felt as excluded from the contemporary society. It is necessary for a private space to be reproduced as a place of consolation and cure beyond rest. This study is dealing with project research works, which are exhibited in 2014 Home Table Deco Fair with the theme of for individual rest and consolation. This study, based on the investigation of Korean lifestyle and trend, considered design, in the living space of modern people with Korean-style design, and in the perspective of color, quality of material, and aesthetic sense, and suggests that design convergence of the east and the west. This study can contribute to recreate meaning and principles of design based on Korean aesthetics and culture according to the needs of the present age.

The purposes of this study were to find out how the characteristics of Chinoiserie in the perspective of the West have influenced on the contemporary womens' fashion. 440 pieces of photo data for this study were collected, focusing on Paris collections as a fashion capital of Europe, for the period of 10 years from 2005 through 2014. The results of this study are as follows. The impacts of Chinoiserie have increased consistently since 2009. The reasons for the increased impacts are assumed that the influence of Chinoiserie on the contemporary fashion rekindled it, as the worldwide attentions to China have been growing since Beijing Olimpic, Aug. 2008. Reviewing by seasons, the trend of Chinoiserie has been more distinct in F/W season comparing with S/S season except year 2007 and 2011. Considering the results of analysis for each designer, Leonard and Shiatzy Chen, the designers of Chinese-origin, appeared to apply the characteristics of Chinoiserie on the contemporary fashion most successfully, while European designers, such as Dries Van Noten, Valentino, and Jean Paul Gaultier, also appeared to accommodate actively the design styles of Chinoiserie in their fashions. Moreover the Asian designers, such as Aesuro Tayama, Andrew GN, and Kenzo, had been using Chinoiserie as a means of providing oriental ambience. The results of this study would be helpful to design and plan the fashion items which are scheduled to enter Chinese markets by Korean designer brands and fashion enterprises. In addition, it is considered that these results would help Chinese designers understand the design characteristics of Chinoiserie which have evoked empathy of people all around the world, when they make Western stage debut in the future.
This article examines magical realism in contemporary european film, which is considered to be one of the most popular styles in the present culture, with regards to Antonio Negri's theory of art. Magical realism is "alternative approach to reality" (Maggie Ann Bowers, Magic(al) Realism) and defined as "a fictional technique that combines fantasy with raw physical reality or social reality in a search for truth beyond that available from the surface of everyday life" (Joan Mellen, Magic Realism). The term of Magic Realism was coined in 1923 by Franz Roh, German art historian, as the concept for the post-expressionist painting in Germany. It has flourished in the Latin-American literature during the 1950s to 1980s and spread worldwide. Since 1980s magical realism is considered to be a universal artistic mode. Since 1990s magical realism is to find in the various novels, and since 2000 one encounters magical realism in the cinema very often. Antonio Negri writes about the relationship between life, imagination, art and the political in his book Art et Multitude. According to Negri, the hard life of people in the present society liberates the imagination and this creates the art as "the excess of the existence". In this process the aesthetic becomes to the political. Negri calls this space of art as "magical time and space". Claire Denis' film Vendredi Soir is analyzed as a contemporary magic realist text, which realizes Negri's concept of art: vendredi soir (friday night) in Vendredi Soir is the magical time, when the impossible becomes the possible, and paris in the public transportation strike is the magical space, where the individuals meet the other in a new situation. The film analysis associates itself with Negri's theory of art: in Vendredi Soir, it is to see, that the excess of the existence liberates imagination and creates the magic reality both in the movements of things and the human relationship. The phenomenon of magical realism in contemporary culture can be understood as the symptom of the emotional and existential pains of contemporary people in the current world. The contemporaneity of the magical realism can be read in the film as "the metaphor for contemporary thought" (Alain Badiou, Cinema). As Antonio Negri writes, art can become "the aesthetic redemption" (Negri, Art et Multitude) for us. At the same time "(t)his is where aesthetics can be transformed into the political."
