Characteristics of Patterns on Art-Walls as an Imagery Element in Contemporary Living Spaces (국내 공동주거 공간 이미지 요소로서의 아트월 패턴 연구)

  • Art-Wall is the term for a surface wall representing artistic expression by using different materials or images in interior spaces. Usually this is the focal point in an interior space and sometimes it called as an image wall. In the new millenium Art-walls began to use in living spaces. While in the early stages of the development, Art-Wall was limited in a living room, in contemporary it spread into overall living spaces using various patterns and materials. Therefore, the research on Art-Walls in contemporary living spaces is essential to understand this development. The purpose of this study is to find out characteristics of patterns on Art-Walls as an imagery element in contemporary interior spaces. To analyze the characteristic, the analysis table for Art-Walls are constructed based on classifications of wallpapers and textiles. Based on this analysis table, 89 examples of Art-Walls from four major periodicals from 2008 to 2009 were examined. As a result of the analysis, in contemporary interior spaces solid-texture pattern is most frequently appeared. Then natural motifs are the next most popular using oversized or irregular layouts. The result shows that naturalistic expression is significant in interior space in 2008 to 2009. Therefore, Art-Walls that adapted diverse patterns are an essential element in contemporary interiors to represent the major concept of the space.

Sensitivity Factors of Kitsch Expression in Food and Beverage Space - Focused on The Correlations with Characteristics of Kitsch and Design Methods - (F&B공간에 나타난 키치적 표현의 감성 요소에 관한 연구 - 키치의 특성 및 디자인 기법과의 상관성을 중심으로 -)

  • Contemporary design of food and beverage(F&B) space reflects various needs, not only of eating, but also environmental ones. As a way of meeting this conceptual change and the various needs of contemporary consumers, kitsch expression is often utilized actively. Thus, this study intends to analyze the design characteristics and methods of kitsch expression found in contemporary F&B space and their correlations with sensitivity factors, focusing on relevant cases. Specifically, it examined the definition, origin, and changes of kitsch, and identified the sensitive role of kitsch in interior space. Next, it classified the kitsch characteristics and design methods found in interior design, finally analyzing the characteristics of kitsch expressions in contemporary F&B space by sensitivity factors and their correlations with design methods. As a consequence, it was found that the attempts in contemporary F&B space design to differentiate space through active introduction of various kitsch expressions were fulfilling the sensitive needs of changing consumers by providing new cultural experiences. That is, such attempts are considered to have improved the satisfaction of consumers who value sensitivity, by means of wide exchange of sensitivity between designers and consumers. To raise the sensitive satisfaction of consumers more in future, it is necessary to further continuous and in-depth research on the correlation between kitsch expressions and sensitivity factors in interior design.

  • This study aims from being meaning of centrality to possibility of space composition in the Contemporary Interior Space os forming of center and way of being. There it is studied analysed architect's work on character of certrality. This study mentiones not as analysis of location and perception aspect on uabanism but as various forming and changing in the contemporary interior space composition. it is definitioned as centrality in architecture space which is base in the course of congiting and organizing and is core space in forming area, It is moaned not as Euclidean plan but as three demeasional vector space in space express architectual space exists except for perception of human and takes center and direction in perculiarly.

  • The three basic elements of human life -clothing, food and shelter- had been evolved through different periods and cultural realms, as their spatial applications show distinct characteristics that are manifested through sensibilities only inherent to its specific culture. Especially in the interior spaces, possibilities to approach them in three-dimensional aspects allow formal characteristics to be expressed that are distinct to the country. Formal sensibilities embedded in interior space In Korea also follows such pattern, developed through various contemporary interpretations of Korean traditional formal sensibilities, including harmony with nature, simplicity, lightness, real and fake, and principle of harmony are being redefined by spatially expressed in contemporary language. That is, traditional formal sensibilitiesare filtered through various application methods such as composition, negotiation and modification, accommodating spatial manifestations to be not simply preserved nor replicated, but rather reconstructed through metaphor, symbol, abstraction and contrast. From this perspective, the Korean traditional formal sensibilitiesis not a notion fixed in the past, but a distinct perspectives evolving throughout periods of time that are constantly reconsidered and reinterpreted in our interior space. By examining Korean sensibilities manifested in interior space in the both diachronic aspects of tradition vs. contemporary, as well as synchronic aspects among various disciplines simultaneously, we would be able to generate a linkage to the dichotomous categories of tradition and contemporary.

  • The concept of Space-time is performed while the movement of human Is imaged on coming 20th century up. Specifically it is considered that the movement of human is caused by the relativistic otherness rather than an absolute subject in space of deconstructive tendency. The purpose of this study is that I try to analyze an expression of relative space-time concept in desconstructive tendency and I have to get a concept how this kind of expression effect the contemporary commercial space. Through this study, I can get to know that the expression of relative space-time concept expresses the dynamic construction by the indeterminacy and the visual effect by the dematerialization in the contemporary commercial interior-space. According to the result of study, the concept of space get to be more meaningful, relative space-time concept and it can be attributed to the concept of human's new creative space over human's life in general.

  • As patients prefer large scale hospitals recently, the interior design of general hospitals are conspicuously improving. In the past, most patients visit hospitals to get treatment on diseases; however, recently patients visiting hospitals for the early prevention of disease is rapidly increasing. Accordingly, contemporary hospitals should meet the wish of patients who want to get medical service in more clean and comfortable environment. The existing studies on hospital interior design were mostly limited on analyzing the functionality of each space; however, studies on the interior design of common use space, which is open to all hospital users, are required now. Accordingly, this study classified the common use space in contemporary general hospitals into lobby space, corridor space, waiting space and resting space. The interior design characteristics of each space were classified into; connectivity with external environment, level change by void, introduction of natural elements, dynamics of space and variety of color. Then a case analysis was done by selecting 12 common use spaces in overseas general hospitals. According to the analysis result, the interior design characteristics were more conspicuous in the sequence of corridor space, lobby space, resting space and waiting space. The interior design elements such as overall space arrangement and material-finishing were relatively acceptable; however, the aspect of a user's environmental behavior, in other words, the psychological aspect, which can lead a patient to natural healing, was relatively insufficient. It is believed that an in-depth interior design focusing on practical users would enable various spatial behaviors. It is hoped that this study would be a help to the interior design of domestic general hospitals as a guideline.

  • One of frequent phenomena in the contemporary cultural field is the alternative or accompanying interweaving phenomena which happens in the relative connection of A, B, and C. The power of interweaving mixture is one of energies which unify the contemporary cultural phenomena, and it appears as a major phenomena in the recent popular digital architecture. In this study, the mixture, shape, and contents in the contemporary space design is analyzed as a point of view of Post-Structuralism. Namely, the digital part and non-digital part of alternative and circulating existence in the space are classified and the interweaving phenomena in the contemporary space design are proved. It is studied for digital part and physical space to conjunct the hole space and smooth space of Deleuze as part of interweaving phenomena. It is clear that the compatible concept of the hole space and smooth space is crossed complexly or is coexisting in circulating and extending, and is showed as interweaving phenomena in one space.

  • The paradigm of contemporary times became different from paradigm of modem times. The change of paradigm is caused by the side effect of paradigm of pre-times. It could be said that contemporary paradigm is pluralism. In the forms of contemporary building and interior design, the informal form is the result of pluralism. This study is researching and analyzing the informal design tendency in the interior space composition of contemporary architecture. the 1950's free form movement, 1960's Informal movement and pluralism after 1970's affected the latest informal forms. The tendencies of contemporary informal design are organic-degital tendency and deconstructive tendency. Along this two kinds of tendencies, I studied the specific characters in expression and analyzed some natural-degital, deconstructive building.

  • 'Fantasy' in this study is Not something fantastic in the used to be-way we can Imagine easily. This study is to figure out 'fantasy' and 'the fantastic' as a significant measure to interpret the contemporary space-time. In particular, it analyzed that fantasy have influenced on some kind of specific trend what is expressed a tendency to contemporary interior designs of informal, indeterminacy and unpredictability. Fantasy is represented as 'the fantastic space' through spatial revealing, concealing, distorting, and connoting. Representation becomes a major issue in almost many kinds of knowledge-system that start from the mind to go out to the world in a realistic or idealistic way. Therefore, the fantastic space reconstructs the reality while making itself through to representational creation-process. It is Important for fantasy and the fantastic space to help detect behind beneath the reality more than what we know.

Plasticity of Transparent Design Expressed in Contemporary Fashion (현대 복식에 표현된 투명디자인의 조형성)

  • This study was intended to investigate the contemporary meaning of transparent design expressed in contemporary fashion by inquiring into its plasticity expressed in contemporary design and fashion and analyzing the association between them. It used the comparative anesthetic method widely used by H. W lfflin and other scholars in eliciting the differences and similarities in styles. It attempted to investigate the plasticity of transparent design expressed in contemporary design by dividing it into the epidermal, spatial and ideological effects. Contemporary design expressed the epidermal effects such as lightness(nimbleness), smoothness, contrast and stress It expressed the spatial effects such as spatial flexibility through the interpenetration of interior and exterior spaces, expansion of the space and the like. And it expressed ideological effects such as openness, pureness, playfulness and the like. In terms of lightness, contemporary design expressed actual or visual lightness by using transparent materials. In terms of the interpenetration of interior and exterior spaces, it expressed the interpenetration of the interior space into the exterior spaces and vice versa. In terms of spatial expansion, contemporary design expressed the infinite spatial connection by drawing the exterior space into the interior space. Contrast and stress were formed by imposing visual unity on contemporary fashion by using opaque and transparent materials. In terms of openness, contemporary design expressed contemporary people's candor and dependability by making the inside of the building or object look outward. To express pureness, contemporary design used the clear and transparent image by using the glass or translucent materials taking on the pure property. To express playfulness, contemporary made use of the vagueness of the spatial boundary, the locational switching of inner and outer spaces, and interesting external forms occurring when light pass through opaque and transparent materials.
